Adeline POV
“Adeline?” he whispered with concern. “You’re quiet.”
I snapped back to the moment, I was holding his hand but had not yet said anything. I swallowed; now was the time to decide what I should do.
“I’m fine…I just…” I paused. The worry in his eyes told that he thought I was afraid of what he had just told me. “I need to tell you something as well.”
Zale looked at me with a puzzled expression, like he was confused as to why I did not seem more shocked or afraid at what he had just told me. But I had already known that he was a Vargulf—a person who has lost control of their wolf—I had gotten over the shock and fear having dealt with the creature while quelling it into a slumber.
This also wasn’t my first time dealing with a Vargulf, though it was the first time I had ever been this close to one. And the last time, it hadn’t been pretty. Part of my shock had been fear, the last one I had dealt with had been entirely uncontrollable.
