Chapter 50: Shock the World

As someone who used to play games, Alex always believed that in terms of frontal assault, the Zerg always brought the greatest sense of oppression.

Human steel tides seemed invincible, embodying a beauty of metal and order. When they advanced, it felt like a giant machine rolling forward, inducing shivers. The Protoss had the world's strongest individual combat power, and when they charged, it felt like a fearless assault of warriors, earning awe and respect.

But the Zerg were different. When their swarms appeared before you, it was more like an unstoppable, irresistible natural disaster. Like an avalanche, flood, or tsunami, the Zerg's attack utilized sheer numbers to the extreme.

Facing a Zerg rush, you didn't feel battle courage or anger and madness. Instead, you felt small and instinctively terrified by the overwhelming numbers. This is an essential part of any creature's evolution. You can block a collapsing dam, resist a raging flood, but facing a tsunami tens of meters high or a sky-filling hurricane, there's little you can do to change it.

And that was the Zerg.

Tens of thousands of Zerglings surged out of the forest, turning into a muddy tide sweeping forward. From a distance, it looked like the battlefield was instantly covered in a blood-red carpet. Above them, Mutalisks flapped their wings, forming a dense cloud.

This wave of attack felt like witnessing the arrival of purgatory—the gates of hell opening, with crimson inferno burning everything from the ground to the sky, rushing towards you.

Captain Wang lowered his machine gun, staring blankly at the Zerg tide in front of him, indifferent even to the alien creatures behind him. Extreme fear brought about despair. They never felt this way against the mimics, as those creatures, despite their numbers, attacked haphazardly and often hid underground, making their offensives seem less intense than they actually were.

But the Zerg were different. Their terrifying momentum alone was enough to chill the soul before they even reached the battlefield.

No one fired. They even gave up struggling. In the face of such numbers, they only felt powerless and desperate. Some soldiers even closed their eyes, awaiting death.

But... a miracle happened.

Those terrifying monsters didn't kill the soldiers. Instead, the Zerglings deliberately made way, their massive bodies unaffected, flowing around the soldiers like water, and continuing forward, forward, ever forward.

"What's going on?"

Captain Wang opened his eyes. He had prepared to die, but after waiting for a long time, death hadn't come. He opened his eyes to find that the terrifying bugs had no intention of harming them. They had even gone around him.

Not only him, but when Captain Wang looked around, he saw his other subordinates also standing there, some dumbfounded, others still waiting for death with closed eyes. It seemed a bit comical, but no one could laugh.

Moments later, the Zerg had disappeared from sight, entering the battlefield and starting to fight. Everything around them was so quiet it felt unreal. The soldiers stood dumbly, not knowing what to do.

"My God, what was that?"

After who knows how long, a soldier broke the silence. He turned his head, looking back. Others also turned hesitantly towards the battlefield. There, the Zerg were madly slaughtering everything in sight, and the mimics couldn't stir up any resistance.

"They're... attacking those aliens?"

The scene was unbelievable for the soldiers. But the truth was, these terrifying, ugly creatures, seemingly from hell itself, were... on their side?

"Whatever it is, we need to leave here immediately!"

Still not fully understanding the situation, Captain Wang made a swift decision. The current situation was beyond their handling capacity. They had to report back to command and then plan their next move. Hearing his order, the soldiers unhesitatingly followed, leaving the battlefield.

This was no longer their fight. They didn't know where these creatures came from, but since they were attacking the aliens, they hoped the Zerg wouldn't lose.

If Alex knew what the soldiers were thinking, he would scoff at them.

"How could we lose with Mutalisks?"

Alex had no fear of being jinxed. There was no chance of defeat with such a population advantage. It was impossible to turn the tide. How could he lose with a wave of Zerglings and Mutalisks?

And indeed, Alex's prediction proved correct.

Although these mimic creatures indeed possessed formidable attack capabilities, their lack of an air force was a fatal flaw. Additionally, their numbers were far inferior to the Zerg.

In the first wave of assault, the mimics were instantly shredded by the Zerglings and Mutalisks, utterly defeated. From an aerial view, it would appear as though the once-arrogant mimics were like shells on a beach, washed clean by the overwhelming Zerg tide.

However, Alex didn't just rush in for a full assault. He knew that the mimics' greatest strength wasn't their battlefield prowess but their ability to reset the timeline.

To avoid being caught in the same trap, Alex ordered his Zerg to capture the peculiar node creatures alive and bring them back to base for blood extraction. Only after absorbing their genetic sequences would they be killed.

This strategy effectively limited the mimics' ability to reset the timeline. The Zerg advanced triumphantly, conquering the entire front line within a day.

At this point, the entire human world was plunged into chaos. The sudden emergence of the Zerg shocked everyone.

Humanity had thought that after battling aliens, they were immune to surprises. But seeing these terrifying Zerg, they realized they were still too naive.

Military leaders from various countries immediately convened to discuss the situation.

The recently returned soldiers, still in their bloodstained uniforms, were quickly summoned to the joint command center to report.

"Captain Wang Dong of the Fifth Armored Brigade reporting!"

Dressed in a uniform stained with blood, Wang Dong solemnly entered the command center, saluting the officers in front of him.

"At ease."

The elderly man at the head of the table raised his hand in a gesture.

"Wang Dong, I believe you know why we called you here."

"Is it about those suddenly appearing monsters?"

"Exactly."

The old man's expression turned serious upon hearing Wang Dong's response. The high-ranking officers of various nationalities around him also looked grave.

"We've heard your unit had direct contact with those creatures. Can you share your insights?"

"My insights?"

Wang Dong's face changed as he recalled the unstoppable, overwhelming Zerg tide.

For a moment, he felt his legs go weak, but he quickly regained his composure through sheer willpower. He looked at the senior officers and spoke slowly.

"They are... nearly unstoppable."

The officers frowned at Wang Dong's response, even the elderly leader.

As soldiers, they despised weakness, and Wang Dong's words seemed cowardly to them.

"Perhaps you think I'm making excuses, but gentlemen, I'm speaking as a frontline soldier and commander. This was my first impression facing them. If you don't believe me, I have battlefield footage that will explain everything."

"Show us."

The elderly leader gestured, and Wang Dong handed over a memory card. A technician quickly inserted it into a playback device, and the screen displayed footage of the battle.

At first, it showed Wang Dong's unit fighting the mimics. The officers, many of whom had experience with mimics, weren't particularly impressed.

However, when the footage reached the point where Wang Dong's men were surrounded, the elderly leader nodded in appreciation of Wang Dong's displayed courage.

But the next scenes shocked everyone.

As the mimics prepared to attack, they suddenly halted. The officers tensed, knowing what was coming next.

However, seeing it on video was much more visceral than reading a report.

The camera panned, revealing the Zerg swarm.

"WTF?!"

"My God..."

"What is that?!"

As the Zerg swarm surged from the distance, the officers' faces paled. Some shouted in shock, others swore, and a few stood up, visibly shaken.

Despite their military discipline, the sheer horror of the footage unsettled them.

When the Zerg swarm reached Wang Dong, some officers instinctively stood, preparing for defense. Others displayed hopelessness, and a few even fell from their chairs in panic.

Upon realizing they were still in a conference room, they appeared relieved.

The civilian staff reacted even worse. Several secretaries fainted, and the guards gripped their weapons tightly, barely restraining themselves from firing.

Wang Dong, watching this, clenched his fists. During the actual event, he had closed his eyes, awaiting death, unaware of what happened.

His camera, however, captured everything. He watched the Zerg rush past him without even glancing at him, their sharp claws and fangs terrifying on screen. He shuddered, realizing that if they had attacked, he would have been torn to pieces.

Now, he saw his survival as a miracle.

The video ended, but the room remained silent. The elderly leader, sweating, wiped his forehead and addressed the others with a serious tone.

"It seems we need a plan."
