Capítulo 14: Split Mountain

{Ren POV}

"Freya, Ren. I'm sorry but you will have to repeat this phase… But with your talent I'm sure you will pass." said Menchi shocking everyone. The only other person she had been so nice to was the chairman himself.

"No need to apologize Menchi. It isn't your fault." Just as I said that Menchi jumped at me and pulled me into a hug and said: "You are so adorable when you get serious!!". Flustered, I quickly get away from Menchi only to feel a cold stair from Freya.

"We need to talk later!" said Freya in a monotonous voice. I started to sweat bullets. Looking at our interaction, Menchi just started to laugh. "*Ahem* So back to the test… " said the Chairman trying to bring Menchi back to the topic.

Menchi-"Huh… Ya, so How about we boil some eggs?"

This created confusion amongst the participants. This was probably the last thing they expected to happen.

Menchi- "Chairman Netero, since you have brought you airship, may we get a lift to split mountain?"

Netero realizing what Menchi planned to do said, "Why yes of course." The doors of the airship which had landed by now opened to show the interior. It was comparable to that of a luxury cruise ship.

It took us about an hour to get to 'Split Mountain'. It was a mountain that was literally split in half. There was a deep chasm that passed through the mountain and the surrounding land.

Once we landed there, Menchi explained that this was a nesting spot for spider-eagles and they have laid their eggs which were bound in webs. "Now for the demonstration," said Menchi as she jumped down the chasm. As she was falling, she skillfully caught hold of a web but the eggs were still further down. She waited for a few seconds before letting go of the Webs and going into a free fall. While falling, she managed to catch hold of an egg. Everyone thought she was done for until a sudden updraft lifter her out of the chasm. At this, most people simply decided to opt out. Without wasting any time, Freya and I jump down. Just as we caught the webs, they gave out sending us into a free fall. This was nothing much to us but the onlookers (Gene and co. and Menchi) were extremely worried. Even the Chairmen showed concern as two of the best Examinees they had in awhile might die due to bad luck. Just as he was about to step in, Freya and I push each other sending us crashing into the rocks. From there, it was an easy climb. Of Course, we could have just flown out of there but it would be a pain answering all the questions the onlookers may have. During our free fall, we had both managed to get an egg. As soon as we got out, Gene and Kile threw themselves at me making me lose my balance.

"Are you okay, are you hurt anywhere!" said Gene and Kile at the same time. I could feel something soft touching my chest but I simply decided to Ignore it, after all, they were thirteen-year-old girls… Forget I said that. I got up and simply smile and, "I'm fine, see." This just worsened Freya's attitude towards me. The rest of the phase went on as in the anime. While the other contestants were doing their task, Menchi was telling Freya and I about stories of all the different things she has done and seen as her life as a gourmet Hunter. I was extremely interested as one of the primary reasons I even came to this world was to explore this world full of wonders. The manga hadn't really got to the outside world yet. Exploring the outside world is the part that I'm looking forward to the most. O guess I made the right decision to come here.

{A Few Hours Later}

{Ren POV}

We were now on the airship. All the remaining 24 participants were made to gather in the cockpit.

Netero- "I should introduce myself to you all properly, to you, I am Netero, the chairman of the examination committee. I figured I didn't need to show up until the final round but since I'm here, I'll accompany you for a while and enjoy this nice edgy atmosphere!😁"

No one really seemed to give a shit about what the rest of what he had to say except for the fact that we'll be arriving in * hours and that we could rest.

Gene and Kile- "Hey, y'all wanna explore."

Just I was about to reply, Freya gripped my shoulder and said, "No sorry, we can't come. We have something important to discuss." At this moment she truly seemed like a demon. "Sure, take your time," said Kile as the fled. Freya dragged me to an isolated corner. I kept asking her what it was about only to be Ignored. Finally, she spoke, "Ren, do you like me?" she asked seriously. "Freya, where did this come from!!!" I asked a bit surprised. At this Freya burst into tears, "Ren, please… Please don't leave me!!! If you do I-I do--".

"What's wrong with you, silly! Of course, I love you. How can I ever leave you! Don't ever say stuff like this again. I will always love you." I say while embracing her. She slowly started to calm down and said, "I don't mind you having other women… But it's just that lately, you have been growing distant. You just started spending more time with others…". That is when I realized, I really hadn't been paying much attention to Freya these days due to all that's happening. "Freya, it is just that I was really excited to get to this world as it is one of my favorite. I'm so sorry… I promise I won't let this happen again." Freya and I just gazed into each other's Eyes as she suddenly went in for a kiss. I was a bit stunned an=t first but didn't Hesitate to reciprocate the kiss as I probed her mouth. This went on for a good hour. We talked a bit as she dozed off on my shoulder.
