Alexis was confused. "You were nagging about how daughters are bound to be married off some day not long ago, though. What changed your mind?"

Luna was puzzled as well.

"Well, something just clicked in my head." Lindsey sat down and served her daughter a bowl of rice.

"Our little Luna looks so beautiful. She's a nice and smart girl, too. How could we have such low standards and marry her off to some rich guy in San Caj? Thinking again, that man my brother recommended might be rich, but he's at most a millionaire. Besides, his mother is in charge of his wealth. With Luna's timid personality, she definitely wouldn't be able to get much out of them. They'd act as if a mere one hundred or one thousand dollars' worth of betrothal money would be charity towards our family."

Luna could feel her chest tightening. She figured that her mother had someone else in mind now, someone much richer and more terrifying.
