It was Natalie's first time inside a police station. Though she had not been there for long, the walls already felt as if they were pressing on her chest. She stood across from the entrance, her eyes darting nervously between the officers walking around tensely and the corridor that led to the interrogation rooms where she might be taken next.
Though no one had explicitly said it, Natalie felt like the police suspected she was involved in the incident with Alonso outside her apartment building earlier that night.
Feeling a pair of concerned blue eyes watching her every move, she did her best not to let Jack see just how frightened she truly was. Her uncle who stood at her side would have usually been lost in the haze of alcohol at this hour, but there he was, sober for the first time in ages and right where she needed him to be.
"Calm down. You did nothing wrong," he said when they locked eyes together.
