Capítulo 21: Chapter 21: The Abyssal Threat

As the evening settled over the village of Rivenwood, Sam accepted Chief Korim's offer to rest for the night. He knew he couldn't fully trust these people yet, but his adventurous spirit and curiosity about Maha Lok pushed him to stay. He had packed his trekking bag meticulously, prepared for any situation, but the thought of sleeping in this new world excited him.

In the small hut provided for him, Sam discreetly set up hidden spy cameras he had brought from Earth. "Pushp," he murmured, "keep an eye on these cameras. If anything goes wrong, wake me up immediately. I need to be ready to teleport back to Earth at a moment's notice."

"Understood, Sam," Pushp replied. "I will monitor the cameras continuously. You can rest assured that I will alert you if there is any danger."

Despite his precautions, Sam felt a thrill at the thought of spending the night in Maha Lok. "This is what adventure is all about," he thought, a smile playing on his lips. "If I wanted to play it safe, I wouldn't have packed all this gear. I could just go back to Earth to sleep, but where's the fun in that?"

With everything in place, Sam lay down on the straw bed, feeling the unfamiliar yet comforting surroundings lull him into a deep sleep. The night passed peacefully, and he woke up refreshed, the sounds of the village coming to life filling the air.

Sam stretched and got out of bed, grabbing his toothbrush and heading outside. As he brushed his teeth, he wandered through the village, observing the villagers starting their day. He noticed something unsettling: despite the early hour, many of the villagers looked mentally exhausted, their eyes reflecting a deep-seated hopelessness.

"I know that look," Sam thought. "It's the same feeling I had back on Earth, seeing no hope for the future."

His contemplations were abruptly interrupted by the sound of alarm bells ringing from the guard posts. The reaction was immediate and alarming. The villagers' faces fell, fear replacing the weariness in their eyes.

"What's happening?" Sam muttered, scanning the horizon for the source of the alarm. He didn't have to wait long to find out. Chief Korim emerged from his house, his expression grave but determined.

"Everyone, listen!" Korim shouted, rallying the villagers. "The abyssal beasts are attacking again. We must defend our home with all we have. Remember, we fight for our families, our lives, and our future!"

The villagers responded with a grim determination, grabbing weapons and preparing for battle. Sam noticed the tension in the air, the palpable fear mixed with resolve. He instinctively checked the safety on his Desert Eagle, readying himself for whatever was to come.

"Pushp," Sam whispered, "what are these abyssal beasts?"

"Abyssal beasts are ordinary wild animals that have been contaminated with abyssal energy," Pushp explained. "This energy turns them into irrational, maniacal creatures. The energy manifests as a coat around their bodies, usually purple, red, or black. These beasts are incredibly dangerous, and their contamination makes them inedible and highly infectious."

Sam's heart pounded as he watched the villagers gather. The men, who had been working in the fields moments ago, now armed themselves with spears, swords, and bows. Even many of the women joined the ranks, preparing to defend their home. The atmosphere was charged with a desperate energy.

He could see the first wave of abyssal beasts approaching. They were grotesque, their bodies twisted and writhing with dark energy. Their eyes glowed with a malevolent light, and their growls and roars filled the air. The sight was terrifying, yet Sam felt a surge of adrenaline.

The battle began with a thunderous clash. The villagers, despite their seemingly primitive lifestyle, fought with incredible strength and skill. Sam watched in awe as they held their ground against the onslaught. "These people are stronger than the best warriors on Earth," he thought, admiration mixing with concern.

But the abyssal beasts were relentless. Their manic nature made them even more dangerous, and despite the villagers' valiant efforts, many were quickly overpowered. Sam saw a man fall, his body torn apart by the claws of a beast. A woman, fighting fiercely beside him, screamed in rage and grief as she tried to protect her children.

"Chief Korim," Sam called out, his voice barely audible over the din of battle. "How can I help?"

Korim, standing on a small hill overlooking the battle, turned to him. His face was pale, his fists clenched so tightly that his nails pierced his skin, making him bleed. "Just stay alive," Korim said, his voice strained. "We need every hand we can get."

Sam nodded, pulling out his Desert Eagle and aiming at one of the beasts. He fired, the shot echoing through the chaos. The beast fell, but more took its place. He fired again, each shot taking down another creature, but the sheer number of beasts seemed overwhelming.

The villagers fought with a ferocity born of desperation. Sam saw a young woman, no older than twenty, wielding a spear with deadly precision. Her movements were fluid, her strikes powerful, but she was soon surrounded by three beasts. Sam fired at one, giving her a brief respite, but the other two attacked her mercilessly.

"Dammit," Sam cursed, trying to reach her. But the battle was a frenzy of motion and violence. He saw villagers falling, their bodies covered in the dark, pulsing energy of the abyssal beasts. Each injury was a potential death sentence, the contamination spreading rapidly through their wounds.

Despite the carnage, the villagers fought on. Sam could see the fear in their eyes, but also a steely determination. They were fighting for their very survival, for their families and their future.

As the battle raged, Sam realized the enormity of their struggle. "This is why they can't progress," he thought, his heart heavy. "Every day is a fight for survival. How can they think about progress when they're just trying to stay alive?"

The realization hit him hard. These people were trapped in a cycle of violence and fear, unable to break free. The welfare value he sought to gather was meaningless in the face of such relentless danger.

Suddenly, a beast lunged at him, its claws swiping dangerously close. Sam fired instinctively, the bullet finding its mark. The beast fell, but another took its place. He fought on, his mind racing with thoughts of how to help these people.

"Pushp," Sam called out mentally, "is there anything we can do to stop these beasts permanently?"

"I am not certain, Sam," Pushp replied. "The abyssal energy is a powerful and malevolent force. It may require more than just physical strength to combat it."

Sam's heart sank at the thought. The villagers needed more than just a temporary solution; they needed a way to break free from this endless cycle of fear and death.

As the battle continued, Sam fought alongside the villagers, his determination growing with each passing moment. He knew he had to find a way to help them, to give them a chance at a better life.

The sun began to set, casting long shadows over the battlefield. The remaining abyssal beasts were finally driven back, but the cost was high. The ground was littered with the bodies of fallen villagers, their blood staining the earth.

Sam stood amidst the carnage, his heart heavy with sorrow. The villagers who had survived tended to the wounded, their faces etched with grief and exhaustion. Chief Korim approached him, his expression grim.

"Thank you for your help, Sam," Korim said, his voice heavy with emotion. "We have lost many today, but your assistance was invaluable."

Sam nodded, feeling a deep sense of responsibility. "I want to help more," he said. "There has to be a way to stop these attacks, to give your people a chance at a better life."

Korim's eyes softened with gratitude. "Your willingness to help means more than you know. We will welcome any assistance you can provide."

As the night fell, Sam knew that his journey in Maha Lok was only just beginning. The challenges were immense, but he was determined to find a way to help these people. With Pushp by his side, he felt a renewed sense of purpose and resolve.

The adventure ahead was fraught with danger and uncertainty, but Sam was ready to face it head-on. He had come to Maha Lok to explore and unlock its secrets, and he would do whatever it took to make a difference in this world.
