"Just let me go, Lord Cain!" she begged, knowing she would have fallen on her knees and done so if not for Cain's tight grip around her arm.

The anger in his eyes was evident as he pulled her even closer until they were barely a few breaths apart.

"That's not true, you—"

"You heard what you wanted to hear! I've said it before—my heart raced because I'm scared of you!" Her fists clenched together as she continued to speak, aware that the second the other guards came back and the mansion was full again, she wouldn't be able to leave.

Violet was surprised to see him look at her with such sincerity, but she didn't care. Even if he cared the slightest bit about her, the second he found out what she was, he wouldn't hesitate to kill her. The memory of when he had been seconds away from shooting her still fresh in her mind.
