"Newbie Gift Pack"

As every gamer knows, the newbie gift package depends entirely on luck. If you're lucky enough, getting a high-tier item isn't out of the question.

In any system-based setup, luck is your currency. And as a protagonist, my luck should be off the charts, right? Or so I hoped.

The current situation, however, was far from ideal. Bullets zipped past, arrows whistled through the air, and even though I was behind a rock, stray projectiles could still ricochet my way.

Seriously, surviving this chaos seemed more pressing than unboxing some "gift package." After all, I'd only just arrived here—dying so soon would be lame.

Judging by the traces in the sand and the dampness of my clothes, someone had dragged me to safety. Considering how I passed out earlier, I suspected the one responsible was likely a certain heroine.

Wait, hold on... did she give me CPR before I blacked out? That lingering softness on my lips sure felt like it.

Oh no. Please don't tell me I'm that guy.

Before I could reflect further on my embarrassing speculations, a futuristic holographic screen appeared before me.

"Slot machine?" I muttered in confusion. "This is the so-called 'newbie gift package'?"

"Please press the host's fingerprint."

"Uh… like this?" I asked, pressing my hand against the flashing pattern on the bottom right.

Instantly, the screen came alive, displaying countless "options" scrolling too quickly to read clearly. It was overwhelming, like a Vegas casino slot machine on overdrive.

I could barely make out words like "mage," "warrior," "paladin," and "assassin" among the blurs. Then the system spoke:

"Based on the host's physique, intelligence, and adaptability, your talent will be selected."

Great. My fate rested on the whims of a digital algorithm.

Moments later, the slot machine stopped. A single word appeared on the screen: "Magic."

"Magic? My talent is magic?" I blinked, processing the revelation.

Sure, magic sounded cool—versatile, powerful, and flashy. I always enjoyed fantasy RPGs and anime centered around spellcasters, so I couldn't really complain.

"Congratulations, host. Your talent classification is 'generalized magic.'"

"Generalized?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Yes, host. While 99% of individuals receive a 'narrow' talent—such as fire or ice magic—you are among the rare 1% with a 'broad' talent. This allows you to learn all types of magic."

Damn. I wasn't just any mage—I was a universal mage! Protagonist perks for the win.

Suddenly, the screen lit up again, this time displaying a list of familiar worlds. Each one corresponded to a popular series, like:

"World of Warcraft" - "Fairy Tail" - "Harry Potter" - "Lord of the Rings" - "One Piece"

Even One Piece made the cut. Did Devil Fruits count as magic now?

After rapidly scrolling, the cursor finally stopped on: "Fairy Tail."

"Fairy Tail?" I muttered, slightly disappointed. Sure, it was one of the big four manga series, but it wasn't my top pick. Still, ancient lost magic sounded promising.

Next came a card-based interface showcasing characters from Fairy Tail, ranging from D-rank to SS-rank. The system explained:

"Host's abilities will correspond to the chosen character card."

Ah, so whatever magic the character knows, I would automatically learn.

The cursor started spinning again, passing over familiar faces like Natsu, Gray, and Erza. My heart raced as it slowed near my favorite characters.

"Minerva?" I whispered excitedly as the cursor hovered over her card. Her mastery of advanced spatial magic was insanely overpowered.

But no. The cursor moved past her.

"Jellal!" I exclaimed next, my hopes reigniting. Jellal's magic was god-tier in the Fairy Tail world. Yet again, the cursor skipped.

I groaned as it passed character after character, eventually landing on—

"Freed Justine, S-Class Mage of the Thunder God Tribe."

"Wait, what?!" I shouted, staring at the screen.

Sure, Freed's abilities were nothing to scoff at. His enchantment magic could create powerful barriers and complex runes, and he was even capable of rewriting reality to an extent.

But compared to Natsu or Erza, his presence in the series was… underwhelming.

"Host, congratulations on obtaining an S-Class orange card."

I sighed, reluctantly accepting my fate. At least I wasn't stuck with a D-rank card.

Still, this was just the beginning. If Freed's abilities were my starting point, I could only imagine what I'd unlock down the road.

For now, I had to survive this chaotic battlefield and figure out what the hell was going on in this Marvel-DC mashup universe.
