"Okay," Maureen said softly, her voice steadying a bit. "I'm not with him right now, but you can keep trying his mobile. Ryan usually doesn't switch off his phone unless the battery is dead."
"Sounds good," Lilian replied. "I'll keep trying to reach him." There was a pause, and the atmosphere felt heavy with unspoken words.
"Tell me something, Maureen. Are you two having another fight?" Lilian asked, hoping that they would find a way to understand each other and eventually get married.
Maureen remained silent, her emotions overwhelming her. Lilian could faintly hear her sniffles, a telltale sign that things were not well between them. Why were they both doing this to each other?
"What happened?" Lilian pressed, concern creeping into her voice. "If I hadn't called, neither of you would have told me anything, would you? No wonder Ryan switched off his phone."
