"Your dad abandoned us for that so-called woman, he made us suffer after he stole my money". She cleaned the tears that fell from her eyes with the back of her hands. "Mum it's alright you still have me to take good care of you, I promise to never leave your side," I said as I held her hands. She looked at me with a smile, but that smile never got to her eyes.
"I was diagnosed with "Alzheimer's," she said, "what's that?" I asked a little scared cause of what I heard "It's a brain disease I got all because of Xavier". She said irritated. "Will you be alright?" I asked perturbed. I was truly scared right now cause I never understood what mum was talking about. "Yes I guess so, that's why I asked you to stay with your aunt for a while, 'cause I'll be staying here for some more time" I nodded in agreement to what she said.
I have already made up my mind to stay with my aunt while mum recovers, so we can live happily again like before the illness. "I love you mum," I said to her. "I love you more my love" she hugged me so tightly like it was the last time we would be together. We stayed hugging each other for some time........
"Nessa!..... Nessa! Nessa!" A voice screamed from behind and when I turned around to look at the person it was my aunt amelia.
She ran towards me and my mum who were still hugging each other and separated us, I was still confused at what she had just done. "Nessa, can you hear me?" I saw my aunt shaking mum who was no longer responding to her touch. "What happened to her?" I could feel my heart beating so loud as fear enveloped my entire body.
My aunt turned around to look at me with my mum still in her arms "Zel go get the doctor hurry.....!" She screamed at me and I ran out of the room with all the strength I had in me to the doctor's office.
The doctor checked mum while I and aunt waited for his report at the reception. After 15 minutes he walked out and we rushed towards him "Is she, alright doctor?" My aunt spoke disturbed. "She's stable for now she should be awake by morning, I would advise you to take the little girl home". He headed to his office.
"Aunt amelia can I see mum now?" I asked tucking her skirt a little. She looked at me arranging my hair with her hands "That won't be necessary you'll see her in the morning". "But I....!" I trailed off when she gave me a look of disapproval and we left the hospital.
I and aunt amelia got lots of fruit and flowers for mum but when we arrived at the hospital the next day mum could no longer recognize us anymore. We went to the doctor and he said it was the effect of the illness she had and she might not be able to remember us ever again. I cried and cried that day calling her name constantly but still, nothing changed.
