“A what?”

“A—never mind. You insert it into the USB port of a computer.”

“Uh…Okay.” Still clear as mud. “But why are you giving this to me?”

“This has all Davy’s data on it, as well as information about Dr. G.’s experiments. Put it in a safe place.”

She stared at the thing in her hand.

“You’re calling him Scottie this year.”

She felt the color leave her face. “How do you know that?” She clenched her fingers so hard the flash drive cut into her palm, and she winced. Why hadn’t her gut warned her? Oh God, if Gunther knew…She looked around and started to rise. “Dr. Gautier probably knows too.”

“Don’t worry. Just now she’s involved with having more plastic surgery done.”

That distracted Babe for a moment. “More?” Dr. Gautier had undergone a series of surgeries even before Babe had been hired—it had been the talk of the New York division of the institute.

“Yeah, and it’s starting to have the reverse effect. Her skin is glassy, and she looks like a cat.”
