Capítulo 23: Blessings In Disguise
Yvette was lounging on the plush couch , her legs stretched out in front of her, the soft glow of the television casting a warm light across the room as she flipped through the TV channels.
She absentmindedly munched on a bag of chips as she continued flipping through the channels.
Her toes were still tender from the injury, but the doctors had said she'd heal soon enough. She sighed, taking another chip, trying to push the chaos of the past few days out of her mind.
She was halfway through an episode of a mindless drama when the front door burst open and her manager Leila, rushed in looking frazzled and out of breath.
"Yvette!". Leila exclaimed, her face flushed with guilt as she dropped her bag on the floor as she hurried over. "I'm so sorry about what happened yesterday on set. I can't believe such a thing really happened. How are you? Is your foot okay?"
Yvette looked up at her with a lazy smile, waving off her concerns. "It's fine. Really. I'm feeling better. You don't need to apologize. It wasn't your fault. "It's not like you could've known someone would pull something like that and how's Yara?". She added tossing a chip into her mouth.
"She's good. The matter has been settled". Leila sighed, sinking into the couch beside her, still upset.
Yvette shrugged, turning her attention back to the TV. "That's great. Also I need you to help investigate the culprit. The last time, I let it slide but this time I'm not allowing such. I'm not a pushover".
"Sure". Leila grinned. "But I don't think the culprit is Jocelyn, I checked her up , she's indeed a spoilt and pampered lady but she's quite straightforward and doesn't play such tricks".
"So you have the same thoughts as I ?". Yvette grinned and Leila nodded. "If she's really indeed behind this, I won't let her go . I haven't even teached her and Manuel a lesson and yet she tryna push me to the wall ".
"So, what do you want to do ?".
"Time will tell". Yvette smirked. But before she could reply any further, her phone which was lying on the coffee table beside her began to buzz.
The screen flashed with an unknown number, she hesitated for a moment before picking it up.
"Hello?"
"Yvette, it's Blair ". Came the familiar playful voice she could remember. His voice was warm and tinged with concern as he asked. "How are you? How's your foot?"
Yvette smiled, surprised he was checking in. "It's better, thanks. I'll be fine in no time."
"That's good to hear. Blair replied and there was a short pause from his line before he continued, his voice taking a serious tone.
"Listen, don't worry about the nonsense happening online, I'll take care of it".
Yvette frowned, her brows furrowing in confusion. "Nonsense online? What are you talking about?"
Blair paused, clearly surprised. "You… haven't seen it? There's been a lot of garbage rumors online. People are saying all kinds of garbage about you—about your professionalism, your acting, everything."
Her heart skipped a beat. "I didn't know, I've been off my phone all day".
"I'll deal with it. You just don't bother". He replied firmly.
As soon as the call ended, Yvette quickly opened her social media app, her stomach sinking at the sight.
Her name was trending and for no good reasons. A string of malicious headlines and comments were splashed across the screen:
_"Yvette Delays Filming Again!"_
_"Is Yvette Even Talented? Fans Think She's Not Cut Out for This Industry, she's nothing but a mere pretty face without substance!"_
_"Co-Stars Report Being Frustrated with Yvette's Constant Mistakes on Set. Two staffs has been fired thus!"_
The comments were even more brutal, tearing her down for supposed unprofessionalism, her slow pace in filming, and accusations that she was difficult to work with. Some netizens didn't hold back:
_"She's a total diva! Always slowing things down on set. Why is she even here?"_
_"Maybe she got the role through connections. There's no way someone this untalented landed it on merit."_
_"She is wasting everyone's time. She's clearly not ready for the big leagues."_
Yvette felt her chest tightened. She hadn't expected any of this. The hate felt like a cloud she hadn't anticipated. She felt Leila shift beside her, reading the headlines over her shoulder.
"Oh no…". Leila muttered. "This is bad."
Before they could process the situation further, another notification popped up. Blair had just made a post, and it was causing waves.
_"All rumors are false. I won't stand by while people try to bully Yvette. She's been injured on set twice in a week, and still gave her best performance. Whoever is behind this, be warned—I won't be merciful next time. She won her role fair and square. If you have issues, maybe look at your own shortcomings instead of framing others."_
He hadn't directly named anyone, but his others were quick to pick up on the subtleties.
He was clearly indicating that Jocelyn was the one behind all the incidents.
The online response was instant. Jocelyn was a popular actress with several thousands of fans and within moments, Jocelyn's fans came to her defense:
_"Jocelyn wouldn't do something like that over a single role! What a ridiculous accusation."_
_"Just because Yvette's struggling doesn't mean Jocelyn is behind it. Why would she even care?"_
_"This is probably someone else trying to frame Jocelyn. Don't drag her into this!"_
_"You want to accuse Jocelyn. Fine bring your proof or we won't take you unfairly targeting our idol"_
But Blair's followers were equally fierce, backing Yvette with unwavering loyalty:
_"Blair doesn't lie! If he says Yvette is innocent, we believe him, if he says Jocelyn is guilty, we believe him."_
_"Whoever's messing with Yvette is going to regret it. We won't let this slide. Whosoever Blair wants to protect, we'll equally protect!"_
_"Yvette's been injured twice! Someone's clearly sabotaging her. Whoever's behind it, get ready for a fight!"_
Things escalated quickly, but Blair wasn't done. He followed up his post with a short teaser clip from the movie—a high-octane scene where Yvette's character executed a complex sword fight with precision and grace.
The camera zoomed in as she performed intricate moves, each swing of her sword perfectly timed, her expression fierce and focused. It was the same scene she had been filming when she got hurt, but it was flawless.
Comments began to pour in:
_"Wow, she's actually really good. I didn't expect this."_
_"Okay, that scene was intense. Maybe I judged too quickly."_
_"She pulled that off despite being injured? Respect!"_
The video quickly began to shift the tide in her favor, and more people who had initially doubted her abilities began to reconsider.
Her follower count started to spike, with thousands of new fans flooding her page, commenting on how talented she was and apologizing for believing the rumors.
As Yvette watched the drama unfold online, she and Leila exchanged incredulous looks.
"I can't believe this…" . Leila whispered. "Look at your followers—they're pouring in. This might actually turn into a good thing."
Yvette, still in shock, shook her head. "I didn't expect him to go so far. Indeed a top celebrity is a top celebrity."
Leila smirked. "He's not letting anyone mess with you. And now, with this teaser, people are starting to realize how talented you really are."
Despite the storm of drama, Yvette's page was quickly becoming a hub of support, and even more followers joined in after watching the clip, praising her skills.
Meanwhile, Jocelyn's fans retaliated, accusing Blair of being biased and protecting Yvette for ulterior motives.
Some went so far as to claim Yvette had bewitched Blair to defend her so fiercely.
_"Blair's never this protective. That Yvette must've done something to him!"_
_"She's probably manipulating him. No way he cares this much otherwise."_
But Blair was quick to shut them down with a simple, blunt reply:
_"I protect anyone I want to protect. Deal with it."_
His words sent the internet into a frenzy, and his fans, even more fired up, rallied behind him and Yvette determined to shield her from any further attacks.
All these while, Jocelyn neither replied or showed up and it seems more convincing but her fans were ready to protect her. Even Nadia sprung into action commenting that she support Blair's judgement, afterall everyone at Silverscreen Horizons Entertainment was one big family and should look out for each other.
The whole situation spiraled into an online war between fanbases, with Jocelyn's followers on one side, and Yvette and Blair's newfound supporters on the other.
As Yvette sat back on the couch, watching the chaos unfold on her screen, she couldn't help but laugh softly. "Well, this sure escalated quickly."
"Sometimes, a storm like this turns into a blessing in disguise. Look, you've gained more followers in the last hour than you had since filming began". Leila sighed, taking another chips.
