Marcus Cutler POV:
Thanks to Julia, today turned out to be entirely unproductive. Between her trying to make small talk, suggestions, and with her being … weirdly affectionate, she was an effective distraction. Maybe that was the point of her.
I suppose I should be grateful. If this imprint of Julia is so distracting, then I’m glad I’m not dealing with the real thing.
I was alone when I got back to my motel room, but I knew it was only a matter of time before Julia reappeared. I was proven right almost immediately. As I tried to flop down on my bed, Julia materialized, and I ended up lying with my head resting in her lap. She smiled down at me, and I had to suppress a growl of frustration as I rolled off her.
As if that wasn’t enough of a hint, Julia reached out and began stroking my hair.
“Come on, Marcus,” she chided. “I’m just trying to help you. Having me around can’t be that bad.”
