96.55% LORD OF THE MYSTERIES: THE LUCKY ONE / Chapter 224: Chapter 224 : Steady Performance II

Capítulo 224: Chapter 224 : Steady Performance II

This wasn't a baseless guess.

Alice had long suspected that, at certain moments, her own actions eerily aligned with fate's path—for example, that outrageous promotion ceremony she'd cursed out loud.

And now, with part of the mysterious fog of her past lifting, Alice was increasingly convinced that such mischievous deeds might actually have been her doing.

…Really? Just how absurd was she in the past?

This time, both Alice and the members of the Tarot Club audibly gasped.

No one questioned her words—nor did anyone rush to agree with them. Even Cattleya hesitated for a moment before cautiously responding, "I'm sorry; I'm not familiar with that."

Only Klein, within the gray fog, couldn't help but twitch his mouth, wanting to make a remark but restraining himself given the setting.

Alice rapped her fingers on the table and asked, "I'd like to know, where is this place?"

She glanced at Klein in the fog, and he, catching the signal, manifested a grand and conspicuous building for her. Alice then turned her gaze to Alger, Cattleya, and "The World":

"This should be in Bayam… Mr. 'Hanged Man,' Ms. 'Hermit,' and Mr. 'World,' have you seen this place before?"

As soon as she asked, Klein recognized the location, and Alger and Cattleya weren't strangers to it either. While the latter pondered in confusion, "The World's" hoarse voice replied:

"This is the 'Red Theater,' the most famous brothel in Bayam."

Alice nodded thoughtfully and, after a moment of silence, asked curiously, "Have you been inside?"

"…No." After a moment's pause, "The World" replied.

Alice sighed in disappointment, muttering, "Pity. I've never seen a brothel before…"

In the fog, Klein held back an urge to mutter a curse, restraining himself as "The World's" lips twitched. He changed the topic rationally:

"Why are you asking this?"

He refrained from asking if she intended to go in, though he doubted she would mind and might even be interested.

As subtle glances of curiosity fell on Alice, she merely tapped the table again and asked:

"If I asked for directions to the 'Red Theater' in Bayam, would that seem strange?"

Alger, recalling his memories of Alice, nodded. "I'd say it would."

Cattleya remained silent, while Klein, once again controlling "The World," asked, "So… you're not actually planning to go inside, are you?"

"Not exactly," Alice shook her head. "Just nearby—hey, could you show me the way, Mr. 'World'?"

After a pause, Alice added, "If I really wanted to go in and take a look…"

Klein coughed lightly in the fog, and Alice sensibly closed her mouth, making a zipper gesture.

Then, "The World's" hoarse voice sounded again, "If it's just showing you the way, that's fine."

—Implying there was no way he'd accompany her inside.

Alice was visibly disappointed, leaning back in her chair and pouting, "Alright, fine."

With Alice's reluctance to speak further, Audrey took over the conversation:

"Mr. 'World,' you mentioned a lead on the 'Psychiatrist's' residual traits earlier. Did you manage to acquire it?"

Alice blinked, suddenly remembering Audrey's Susie. She turned and asked sincerely:

"Miss 'Justice,' may I be your dog?"

Klein, in the gray fog, used every ounce of his "Clown" power to suppress any reaction.

Alger and Audrey, being familiar with Miss Justice's extraordinary pet, understood, but the others were left in confusion, their minds blank as they tried to process this scene.

Audrey's mouth fell open in shock, and if she could, she'd apply five calming charms on herself—no, she'd be too shaken to remember to.

As for maintaining her noble image… Honestly, was there anyone who could keep up appearances in front of Miss "Fate"? Audrey doubted she could.

Seeing everyone's expressions, Alice realized that her words hadn't come across right. She hastily tried to explain:

"I didn't mean it that way. I just think that being Miss Justice's dog would be such a blessing… Hmm, that sounds even weirder, doesn't it?"

Nobody responded except for Audrey, who said weakly:

"I understand, Miss 'Fate'…

"Can you just… stop talking for now?"

Alice obediently shut her mouth.

At that moment, "The World" finally responded hoarsely, "If you'd like, I can get it for you.

"The price is 1,800 pounds."

Audrey suspected that "The World" had deliberately waited to speak.

But she'd never get an answer to that suspicion, only managing a feeble, "Alright."

While no one fully grasped Miss "Fate's" earlier comment, for now, it seemed that the member receiving everyone's sympathy in the Tarot Club had shifted from Mr. "World" to Miss "Justice."

After a moment's confusion, "The Sun" Derrick raised his hand and asked, "Does anyone have the fruit of the Glorious Contract Spirit Tree?"

Ms. "Hermit" Cattleya momentarily set aside her own curiosity, replying,

"I do.

"What will you offer in exchange?"

—She had decided to participate in a few small trades to understand the Tarot Club's dynamics.

Derrick replied earnestly:

"Um… I can offer the history of Silver City, the history of dragons, elves, and other dark creatures.

"Ms. 'Hermit,' I also have a list of common monsters around Silver City from which you can select materials."

Alice, considering herself rather sly, glanced up at the sky—oh, there wasn't a sky here.

Though she didn't fully understand, Cattleya responded smoothly, "Let me review the list of common monsters around Silver City first."

Internally, Alice ranked Cattleya on par with Mr. "Hanged Man."

Derrick agreed without hesitation, and after reviewing the list, Cattleya calmly replied, "I'll exchange it for the history of Silver City."

Unable to bear it, Alice looked away.

After this transaction, Fors became the first to speak in the free exchange session:

"Recently, there was a major event in Backlund. Someone broke into the Church of the Lord of Storms and stole the donation box."
