Chapter 126: A Single Body

"Someone is actually ahead of me in line?" Amon asked curiously. "What did you show Him?"

Alice fell into deep thought as she looked at the "Provocateur" potion in her hand.

Come to think of it... could that Mercury Snake have developed a grudge against her the last time she woke up? For example...

Alice shook her head vigorously, trying to rid herself of those jumbled thoughts.

This reaction caused Amon's tone to lift with amusement: "Hmm?"

"I don't think I've done anything like that," Alice replied sincerely. "Besides, that's not why He wants to kill me!"

Amon's face was filled with disbelief.

"It's really not!" Alice's eyes widened. "He wants to kill me because..."

Her voice trailed off abruptly as her gaze grew wary: "Are you trying to trick information out of me?"

"Actually, I don't usually trick people into talking," Amon said with a chuckle.

Alice thought for a moment before cautiously asking: "Do you usually threaten people directly instead?"

"No," Amon shook his head. "I usually just steal people's memories directly."

Alice glanced at the "Provocateur" potion in her hand and covered her mouth with her other hand.

"Why aren't you saying anything?" Amon asked, feeling like something was missing.

"I'm afraid you might force me to drink the potion," Alice said honestly.

"I thought you weren't afraid?" Amon asked in surprise.

Alice swirled the potion in her hand and blinked, saying: "Because I think this potion would suit you quite well too."

"?" Realizing the hidden meaning in Alice's words, Amon laughed instead. "If you want to accomplish that, perhaps you should meet my true form first."

Alice nodded seriously.

"Well, good luck then," Amon encouraged, then asked in an enticing tone, "So, do you want help? To deal with the one ahead of me in line."

"Are you really that kind?" Alice countered.

"If He killed you before I was done playing, I'd be quite upset," Amon answered frankly. "Besides, I'm genuinely curious... what makes you so special that a Sequence 1 absolutely must kill you?"

"You haven't killed me yet. Don't you want to?" Alice blinked.

Amon stared at Alice for a moment without speaking, but the potion that was originally in Alice's hand was now in His.

Alice let out a "Wow" for this impressive performance and began clapping enthusiastically.

Amon's movements halted as He asked through gritted teeth: "What exactly do you take me for?"

Alice explained in confusion: "But it's very impolite not to applaud after seeing an excellent performance..."

"...I'm really curious," Amon looked at Alice, unable to comprehend, "Do you talk to everyone like this?"

"I've never spoken to the Goddess this way," Alice answered after careful recollection.

"...It's a miracle that only one Sequence 1 wants to kill you so far," Amon remarked.

"You don't want to kill me anymore?" Alice sat up straight.

"Killing you would be a bit of a waste," Amon said with a light laugh. "So, the one ahead of me in line, why exactly does He want to kill you?"

"I'm the potion ingredient for His advancement to Sequence 0," Alice replied, pursing her lips.

Amon didn't speak, but His expression showed undisguised disdain and disbelief, almost as if the words "You? Really?" were written on His face.

"Does that sound hard to believe?" Alice asked in confusion.

"If you could serve as His potion ingredient for advancing to Sequence 0, that would only mean... He could equally serve as your potion ingredient for advancing to Sequence 0," Amon said, scrutinizing Alice.

Alice met His gaze and realized: "Is it because... because I'm only Sequence 6 that you can't believe this?"

"Not just that," Amon replied calmly. "Hmm... this Sequence 1 you mentioned, they're from the 'Fate' pathway, right?"

Alice nodded and said: "His name is Will Austen, a 'Mercury Snake' from the Life School."

"As I thought," Amon chuckled softly. "The Sequence 1 characteristics and uniqueness of the 'Fate' pathway are all claimed."

"Where?" Alice blinked.

Amon paused, looking at Alice and laughing: "You don't actually think I'd tell you, do you?"

"It doesn't hurt to ask," Alice replied matter-of-factly.

"That's true," Amon agreed with Alice's logic. "How did you confirm this?"

"...It was a revelation of fate," Alice said, looking Amon up and down meaningfully.

"For some reason, I feel like you're implying something..." Amon shifted uncomfortably under her gaze.

"There's no such thing," Alice denied. "This is a real revelation, unlike yours."

"..." Amon looked at Alice, about to speak but then stopping, finally changing the subject, "So why do you think you qualify as a Sequence 0 potion ingredient for a 'Mercury Snake'?"

"If I tell you, will you kill me?" Alice asked sincerely.

Amon thought for a moment before answering: "Not until I'm done playing."

"..." Alice stared at Amon for a while, then suddenly stood up, her expression turning serious. In a dignified and profound tone, she said, "Therefore, strive to please me with all your might, mortal!"

Amon couldn't help but burst into laughter. After a while, He adjusted His monocle and mimicked Alice's tone from earlier:

"You may leave your name before you die, mortal."

Alice frowned at Amon, beginning to wonder if she shouldn't have taught Him that.

After a moment, seeing that Amon's amusement had barely subsided, she said: "Alice, Alice Kingsley."

"Alice?" Amon called out the name. When Alice looked at Him quizzically, He smiled and said, "I've changed my mind now."

As He spoke, Alice saw Amon reach towards the air, making a grasping gesture. She instinctively opened her mouth to ask:

"Wha-"

Her voice cut off abruptly, her final memory frozen on the image of Amon seemingly gripping something in the air.

Her body, losing its owner's control, slumped down, sliding off the sofa and finally collapsing onto the floor.

On the other side, Amon watched Alice's falling figure, the smile gradually disappearing from His face. He bewilderedly withdrew His hand, looking down at His palm. He tentatively moved His lips, a single syllable escaping from His mouth:

"...at?"
