Chapter 104: The Experienced Alger

After listening to Derrick's description, Alice solemnly suggested:

"You should probably run away quickly.

"The 'True Creator' is an extremely dangerous evil god. Even if His temple has been destroyed, it likely still harbors undetectable dangers.

"Moreover, the most dangerous thing might not be the temple itself, but your leading elder... Remember, the peak of the 'Shepherd' pathway is the 'True Creator.'"

Alger agreed, "That's right. If the leader this time were another elder from the six-member council, it might still be possible for you to go, though the risk would be high. But you just said that the one in charge is 'Shepherd' Lovia, so you absolutely cannot go!"

Derrick was silent for a few seconds before reluctantly saying, "But the mission must be accepted."

"Maybe you could try pretending to be sick... or injured?" Alice hesitantly suggested.

Even Audrey understood how unreliable this idea was. She tactfully asked, "Wouldn't that be discovered?"

"Then really get injured," Alger chuckled. "Before this mission, will you still be on patrol? Find an opportunity to let a monster injure you on purpose. You can refer to past examples from Silver City for the specifics."

Derrick showed an expression of "this could work."

Alice suddenly realized something and asked Alger an inappropriate question, "Mr. 'Hanged Man,' do you do this often? You sound very experienced."

Alger opened his mouth twice but couldn't say anything.

Fortunately, at this moment, the confused and surprised Derrick rescued Alger by saying, "But I don't have any patrol tasks recently..."

The 'Hanged Man' Alger snorted, "You can pretend to be on the verge of losing control. No, to be precise, make yourself appear to be on the verge of losing control. In such a case, I think the higher-ups in Silver City wouldn't take a 'dangerous item' that could explode at any time on an exploration mission, right?

"There's a trick to this. For two consecutive days, keep your spirituality in a relatively dry state. You'll start to hear hallucinations and show signs of losing control. If you stop suppressing yourself afterward, you'll recover within a week and won't truly lose control.

"Of course, Silver City must have methods and measures to treat those showing signs of losing control, so the recovery should be faster. You need to estimate the timing well, preferably starting two or three days before departure."

Alice stared at Alger in amazement, feeling that she had underestimated Mr. 'Hanged Man.'

Audrey was also stunned after hearing this, feeling that she had learned something incredible.

Derrick was equally dumbfounded, muttering to himself after a long while, "Yes, those showing signs of losing control would be controlled and isolated in the underground of the round tower, receiving treatment with potions, rituals, and magical items. If the situation is mild, only potions are needed."

Seeing that Derrick was still hesitant, Alice asked in confusion, "What makes you willing to risk certain death to participate in this exploration?"

"I don't want to deceive the elders of Silver City..." Derrick replied.

Alice tilted her head in confusion and asked, "But you'll die if you go. What's there to hesitate about?"

"But if I don't go, someone else will," Derrick answered.

"So, you're planning to sacrifice yourself?" Alice asked thoughtfully.

Alice recalled her teacher who pushed her away and Captain Dunn from Tingen City, suddenly realizing that she never understood why someone would be willing to do such a thing.

Even when she wanted to become a Night Watcher, it was only to be recognized and not treated as a child anymore. Even when she didn't want others to be sacrificed, it was just because she hated the feeling of fate being out of control.

Why would someone be willing to sacrifice themselves to protect others, even strangers...

Before Derrick could answer again, Alger asked, "Do the other elders of the six-member council know that the 'Fallen Creator' controls the 'Shepherd' pathway?"

"No," Derrick shook his head honestly.

Alger asked again, "Do you think Elder Lovia, the 'Shepherd,' could pose a threat to Silver City? Just answer yes or no, no explanations."

"...Yes," Derrick finally couldn't deceive himself.

The flow of this conversation was very familiar. Alice quickly realized that Alger was giving Derrick psychological counseling. After all, Derrick was the only one who knew about this, and he had no way to warn others for the time being.

Sure enough, Alger successfully persuaded the still hesitant Derrick with this reason. The deceived Derrick gritted his teeth and nodded solemnly:

"I understand!

"Thank you, Mr. 'Hanged Man.'"

Alice looked at Alger in amazement, feeling that he was very persuasive. Audrey and Fors resisted the urge to cover their faces.

Next, "The World" spoke, "I have a question for Mr. 'Sun.' This might involve a transaction, so I request a private conversation."

Then, Mr. Fool in the gray fog nodded, "Go ahead."

Alice watched this scene and suddenly remembered the test of drawing a circle with one hand and a square with the other. She began to wonder if Mr. Fool could do different things with his main and alternate accounts simultaneously.

If he could, he could work with one account while playing at home with another... although there didn't seem to be much fun here.

No, if he had several alternate accounts, he could play cards with them... no, fight evil.

After "The World" finished his conversation with Derrick, no one else proposed any transactions, and the Tarot Club entered a free chat session.

Alice tilted her head, recalling the invitation she received in the morning, and looked at Audrey, asking, "Miss 'Justice,' do you know Viscount Grelint?"

Fors and Audrey both showed surprise.

"You know him too, Miss 'Magician'?" Alice asked, completely unconcerned about the atmosphere.

"Uh..." Fors didn't know what to say. She didn't even have the mood to guess Audrey's identity.

Having some understanding of Alice and being an Extraordinary of the 'Audience' pathway, Audrey quickly adjusted her emotions and smiled reservedly, "Do you have any business with him, Miss 'Fate'?"

"Ah..." Alice blinked twice and replied, "I was just curious."

As expected... Audrey continued to smile and asked, "Did someone mention his name to you?"

Alice stared at Audrey for two seconds, then turned her head and said, "No, I'm not curious anymore."

Realizing her attempt to probe had been discovered, Audrey deeply reflected on her mistake.
