Capítulo 12: Chapter 12: Order of Shadows

The dark organization known as the "Order of Shadows" was founded centuries ago, during a time of political upheaval and war. Its leaders were a group of powerful mages who had grown disillusioned with the political landscape of the time and sought to seize power for themselves. They believed that the only way to bring about true order and stability was to create a ruling class of mages who could use their powers to maintain control.

Over the years, the Order grew in strength and influence, recruiting powerful mages from all over the world to join their ranks. They operated in secret, using their magic to manipulate and control those in positions of power. Their ultimate goal was to take over the country, and eventually the world, establishing themselves as the ruling class.

As for why they would want to take Arin's ancient rune magic, the Order of Shadows believes that ancient magic is the key to ultimate power. They have long sought to acquire and control all forms of ancient magic, seeing it as a means to achieve their ultimate goal. They believe that if they can obtain Arin's ancient rune magic, they will be one step closer to achieving their vision of a world ruled by mages.

Headmaster Raven sat across from Thorne Nightshade, his piercing gaze fixed on the low-level member of the Order of Shadows. Thorne's face was bruised and battered from his previous encounter with Arin, but he remained defiant.

"Why did you attack one of our students?" Headmaster Raven demanded.

Thorne sneered, "Why should I tell you anything?"

"Because it's in your best interest," Raven replied calmly. "If you cooperate, we might be able to spare you the worst of our punishments."

Thorne hesitated for a moment, then his eyes flickered with a dangerous light. "I did it for the Order," he spat. "We need that ancient rune magic for our plans."

"What plans?" Raven pressed, leaning forward.

But Thorne only cackled, a mad gleam in his eyes, before suddenly he began to convulse violently. His body twisted and contorted in pain as a dark magic curse overtook him, and despite the best efforts of the medical team, he died within moments.

Raven shook his head in disappointment as he stood up from his chair, knowing that they had lost a valuable source of information. But he also knew that the Order of Shadows would not stop at one attack, and he was determined to find out what their plans were and put a stop to them before it was too late.

Arin slowly opened the door to his room, taking in the familiar surroundings after being gone for a few days. He breathed a sigh of relief, feeling grateful to be back in his own space. He walked over to his closet and grabbed a fresh uniform, making sure to choose one that was free of any stains or tears.

As he changed, Arin thought about the events of the past few days. He couldn't believe he had been attacked by an evil mage. The thought sent a shiver down his spine. But he was determined not to let it stop him from going about his daily routine.

Once he was dressed, Arin made his way to the great hall for breakfast. As he walked, he noticed some students whispering and glancing in his direction. He couldn't quite make out what they were saying, but he could feel their eyes on him.

He finally reached the Great Hall, and the smells of bacon, eggs, and fresh pastries hit his nose. Arin's stomach growled as he made his way to his usual spot at the Dragon hall table, where his friends were waiting for him.

"Hey, Arin! You're looking better," Luke said, grinning.

"Yeah, how are you feeling?" Kira asked, concerned.

Arin smiled at his friends, happy to see them. "I'm feeling good, thanks."

He tried to ignore it and kept walking, but the whispers only seemed to get louder. Arin felt a knot form in his stomach, wondering what people were saying about him. Were they making up wild stories about his fight with the evil mage?

Arin took a deep breath and reminded himself that he couldn't control what others thought or said. He was determined to stay focused on his studies and training.

Arin sat down at the table in the Great Hall, next to his friends Luke and Kira. They filled their plates with bacon, eggs, and toast, and started to eat as they chatted about their plans for the day.

"Hey guys, I was thinking we could go to the training grounds later and do some training together," Arin suggested, spearing a piece of bacon with his fork.

Luke nodded eagerly. "That's a great idea. I need to work on my fire spells. I want to make them more precise and powerful."

Kira nodded as well. "And I want to practice using my water spells in different ways. Maybe I can figure out how to make them freeze or turn into steam."

Arin smiled, pleased that his friends were on board. "Perfect. And while we're at it, we can also plan for our adventuring class project. We should come up with some good ideas for magic items to use during the adventure."

The three of them brainstormed for a while, throwing out ideas and discussing which ones would be the most useful. They talked about enchanted weapons, potions, and other magical gadgets that could come in handy during their adventure.

As they talked, Arin couldn't help but feel grateful for his friends. They were always there for him, through thick and thin. And after the attack by Thorne Nightshade, he realized even more how important it was to have people he could trust by his side.

With renewed determination, Arin finished his breakfast and stood up from the table. "Let's go to the training grounds and get to work," he said, slinging his bag over his shoulder.

Luke and Kira nodded, following him out of the Great Hall and towards their next challenge.

Arin, Luke, and Kira made their way to the training grounds, each eager to continue improving their magical skills. As they arrived, Arin couldn't help but feel a sense of déjà vu wash over him. The smell of fresh grass and the sound of birds chirping was a welcomed change from the chaos of recent events.

Arin pulled out his newly created magic dagger and inspected it carefully. He then tossed it over to Luke, who caught it with ease. "Try channeling your magic through it," Arin instructed, his eyes lighting up with excitement.

Luke nodded and held the dagger tightly. He focused his magical energy into the gemstone on the hilt and channeled it through the blade. Suddenly, a burst of radiant energy shot out from the tip of the dagger, illuminating the entire training ground and leaving a big hole in the training dummy in-front of them. Everyone around them turned to see what had happened.

"Whoa, that was awesome!" Kira exclaimed, impressed by the display of magic.

Arin smiled, feeling proud of his creation. "The radiant blast rune is a powerful one," he said. "It's useful for blinding and disorienting enemies, and it also deals a huge amount of damage."

Luke handed the dagger back to Arin, and the three continued their training. Arin showed Luke how to cast the Flame Serpent spell, which caused a fiery serpent to emerge from the tip of his wand and slither through the air. Luke watched in amazement as the serpent burned through the targets that Arin had set up for practice.

As they continued to train, Arin, Luke, and Kira discussed their adventuring class project. They threw out ideas for magic items they could create and strategies they could use in their adventure. Arin suggested they make a magical compass that would guide them to their destination, while Kira proposed they create a potion of water breathing.

Their training session was intense, with the three of them pushing their magical abilities to the limit. As they wrapped up, they were sweaty and exhausted but feeling accomplished. They made their way back to their dorms, eager to rest up before the next day's classes.

As Arin, Luke and Kira made their way back to the great hall for dinner, they were surprised to see Arin's sister, Sam, waiting for them at the entrance. She wore a mischievous grin on her face, as if she was up to something.

"Hey, guys! What do you say we head into the capital and grab some dinner? I heard there's a great tavern over at the Adventures Association Headquarters," Sam said, gesturing to the large building in the distance.

Arin, Luke and Kira exchanged a quick glance and nodded in agreement, their stomachs already growling at the thought of food. They set off towards the capital, with Sam leading the way.

As they arrived at the Adventures Association Headquarters, the four-story building loomed in front of them. The main floor was a bustling tavern and inn, filled with adventurers from all over the country. The second and third floors housed several magic shops, each one filled with various enchanted items, rare spell components and magical curiosities.

As they wandered through the magic shops, Sam expertly negotiated prices and made sure they got the best deals possible. Meanwhile, Arin, Luke and Kira browsed through the aisles, admiring the various magical items on display.

"Check this out!" Kira exclaimed, holding up a shining crystal that glowed with a soft blue light.

Arin peered at it curiously. "What is it?"

"It's a crystal that enhances water magic. It can amplify the power of any water spell by at least 50%!" Kira said, her eyes lighting up with excitement.

Luke, who was browsing a shelf of rare spell components, turned around to see what the commotion was about. "That's amazing! We should definitely get it for our adventuring project!"

After a few hours of browsing and haggling, the group had purchased everything they needed for their project and were ready to head back to the academy.

"I had a great time today," Arin said, smiling at his sister and friends. "Thanks for suggesting this, Sam."

"Of course, little bro," Sam replied, grinning. "What are siblings for, right?"

Arin, Luke, Kira, and Sam had left the Adventure Association Headquarters, stocked with new supplies for their adventuring class project. The sun had just set, and the sky was a deep shade of orange and red. The group walked down the cobblestone streets of the capital, enjoying the cool evening breeze.

Suddenly, the sound of a spell being cast echoed through the street, and they found themselves surrounded by four shadowy figures.

Arin stepped forward, his eyes scanning the attackers, trying to identify their magic. One of them had a staff with a green gem on the top, a wind mage. Another had a black wand with a red gem, a dark mage. The third had a silver wand with a blue gem, a water mage. And the last had a wooden staff with a yellow gem, an earth mage.

The dark mage stepped forward, a wicked grin on his face. "Hand over the rune magic, and we might let you live."

Arin took a defensive stance, gripping his new magical dagger tightly in his hand. Luke and Kira flanked him on either side, while Sam took a step back, drawing her own wand from her pocket.

The wind mage raised his staff and sent a gust of wind towards the group. Arin raised his hand, creating a massive serpent of fire energy that absorbed the attack. The water mage then shot a jet of water towards Kira, but she quickly redirected that jet of water way up above which evaporated the water.

The earth mage summoned a boulder from the ground and hurled it towards Arin, but Luke intercepted it with a wall of fire. The dark mage then unleashed a bolt of dark energy towards Arin, who blocked it with his daggers radiant blast rune creating a display of light and dark magic particles.

Arin saw an opening and lunged forward with his dagger, imbuing it with his magical energy, and pierced the dark mage's chest. The dark mage let out a scream of pain and fell to the ground faintly glowing from the wound.

The wind mage then rushed forward, swinging his staff towards Kira. Arin leapt forward and pushed Kira out of the way, taking the full force of the wind attack himself. He tumbled to the ground, gasping for air.

Kira responded with several jets of water, engulfing the wind mage in a ball of water. The water mage tried to break out with a wave of water, but Sam quickly countered with a piercing wind blade spell, which sliced through the orb like a hot knife through butter penetrating the dark mage.

Luke then summoned a massive flame spear and impaled the earth mage, ending the battle.

Arin struggled to stand, clutching his chest where the wind mage had hit him. Kira rushed over to help him, concern etched on her face. "Are you okay, Arin?"

"I'll be fine," he grunted, wincing in pain. "We need to get back to the school and report this to the professors."

The group hurried back to the school, adrenaline still pumping through their veins. They knew that they had narrowly escaped with their lives, and that they would need to be more careful in the future.
