"I-I'm sorry. I don't think I heard you correctly?" The attendant stuttered, "It sounded like you said, bloodline founder."

"You heard me correctly," Thane replied as he reached into his robes and pulled out a stack of papers, "All the required documents are in here."

"If this is some kind of elaborate joke—" the attendant started, but Thane cut her off with a sharp look. I assure you it's not; now, will you be able to assist me, or will I need to call your supervisor?"

The woman blinked clearly, not expecting Thane to talk to her in such a tone. She opened her mouth again before closing it and settling to glare angrily at Thane as she reached for the phone on her desk and quickly punched in a number.

The call was picked up almost immediately, and the attendant muttered a few words under her breath and then paused, listening to a response before a brief look of surprise passed over her face, "Yes...understood."

The attendant then hung up the phone with a displeased look before standing up from her desk, "Follow me."

Before Thane could say a word, the woman walked away briskly, clearly not concerned whether or not he could keep up. Grabbing his papers, Thane lengthened his stride to catch up with the attendant before falling behind her as she left the office's bullpen and down a hallway toward where Thane could only assume the private offices were.

Though Thane didn't expect the woman to walk to the very end of the hallway and knock on a large wooden door with the words, 'Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement' spelled out in gold lettering.

After knocking, the attendant cleared her throat and called out, "Madam Bones, I'm here as requested."

"Enter." A muffled voice responded from the other side of the thick door, and a second later, the door opened on its own, inviting Thane in. The moment he passed over the threshold, the door closed with a soft click. Still, Thane was more focused on the stern woman with a square jaw and monocle over her left eye, who finished scribbling on a lengthy piece of paper before looking up at Thane, "Before we proceed, I must inform you that if this is some ploy, I will have you charged with obstruction. If that happens, you'll be thrown in the brig until your parents come to collect you."

"I have no intention of wasting my time or yours, Madam Bones," Thane replied confidently, not shrinking under her intense gaze. Eventually, the interrogator gestured to the seat across from her, "We shall see."

Thane dipped his head in thanks before taking the offered seat, "So you wish to apply as a Bloodline Founder?"

Thane nodded, "Yes, and I would like to change my last name to match."

"I'm assuming that you've read over all the qualifications?" Amelia asked, her tone steady if not a little cold.

"Proof of at least one hundred years of British Wizard ancestry, no recorded Dark Wizards of related ancestry as defined by the laws during their times, sufficient magical aptitude proved by a blood test, and at least one recorded instance of contribution to the advancement of magical development." Thane listed off without pause, making Amelia stare at him for a long moment before holding out her hand, and Thane placed the folder of papers into her palm.

For a while, only the quiet sound of Amelia shuffling through the stack of papers filled the office. It almost seemed like the Department head took too deliberate care to draw the silence out for as long as possible. Thane was sure of it, but Thalion had ensured Thane could hold his ground in almost any situation against any negotiation tactic. So Thane was content to sit silently as Amelia slowly shuffled through his papers, never breaking the line of sight or fidgeting.

After some time, Amelia finished reading the last paper and, with an expressionless face, closed the folder and set it back down on the desk before looking back up at Thane, meeting his dark green eyes with her stoic gaze. Then the department head took off her monocle and folded her hands, "As a seemingly random muggle born second year at Hogwarts, I find it hard to believe the evidence presented to me."

"You think they're fake?" Thane asked, though not accusingly

"No, but my instincts tell me I'm missing a crucial part of your story...besides your maturity, your mannerisms point to formal training, the kind only the Houses can and are willing to pay for," Amelia responded before her voice dropped an octave, "You wouldn't be the first time on record that a preexisting House tried to raise a bloodline founder in return for their vote in Wizengamot."

Thane let a small smile spread across his lips as he relaxed his posture, "Your cause for concern is a valid one, but I swear on my magic that, to my knowledge, no party or entity belonging or connected to a preexisting House has had any evolvement in my decision or prepared me to apply as a Bloodline Founder."

Amelia's eyes widened by the barest of margins as a powerful pulse of magic rippled out from Thane, and her shock only increased as Thane didn't seem taxed in the slightest, 'Any other child his age would have passed out on the spot, and entered a state of mana deprivation.'

For the first time since Thane entered her office, Amelia felt slightly wary of the child in front of her, "Considering you're still sitting in front of me and not writhing in agony as your pathways disintegrate, I'll believe you. However, I still find it hard to believe that you've changed to such a startling degree in just a year."

Thane, still smiling, nodded, "I have come a long way, though you were right to assume that I received some instruction."

"Explain," Amelia demanded, her gaze narrowing with suspicion.

Thane stretched out his hand, where an elaborate silver signet ring sat on his pinky. "As you read, almost precisely this time last year, I underwent a blood test at Gringotts, where I was found to be a match for a vault whose initial contract can be dated to over four hundred years ago under the last name Fae. In the vault were three items, one of which was this ring. My ancestors enchanted it to retain a copy of their souls as a backup method in case the family died out and one day an heir reemerged. Every night for the past year, I have been learning under their tutelage; now, I am finally ready to announce the rebirth of the Fae Family to the Wizarding World."
