Ever wonder what it's like to have no motivation?
Well, I don't have to.
I was staring at my adventurer card blankly, looking over my spells.
Tidal Surge, Aqua Veil, Hydrokinetic Resonance, Zephyr Blades, Tempest Shield, Emberstorm Blade, Tempest Arrows, Sonic Boom, Ice Sculptor, Hydro Lance, Ignition Wave, Inferno Burst, Molten Prison, Earth Lance, Earth Prison, Teleport, White Nova.
I had more ideas, but I just wanted to lay here and sleep for the rest of eternity. I wanted something exciting, something that would get my blood flowing, something that would make me feel alive.
But instead, I just felt tired. Mentally and physically.
Life was so bori-.
"Hey dude, you want to warm up? 1v1."
I stood up and grabbed the nearest shirt.
"Bet."
I threw the shirt on and threw my hands up in false cheer. I was ready to lay him on his ass.
"Yey! Big bros are going to fight!"
I blinked and looked down. Yunyun was there, throwing her arms up in the air, copying my stance.
"Daaw! Does little Yunyun want to watch big bros fight? I'm going to kick his but, just you watch!"
I was about to pick her up, but I felt a shockwave of mana bursting a few miles away from the village. I sent a glance at Ethan and he was looking in the direction it came from.
"I'll handle it, take care of the squirt."
I handed him Yunyun who was looking confused. Not everyone could sense mana, no, nobody could sense mana, they were too accustomed to the feeling straight from the womb, me and Ethen however, were not.
I handed the six-year-old to my brother and a purple magic circle lit up below my feet.
"I'll be right back, kid."
The light intensified and I felt the effect of stretching and shrinking at the same time. My surroundings shifted, walls of my room were replaced by a forest and a giant temple that the kids were forbidden from visiting.
Well, with the weird customs of this village, I was already an adult at nine because I knew advanced magic.
I blinked at the temple that had a giant black monster looking down at the surroundings. I waited for a moment, observing its magnificence before a dozen red magic circles appeared around it.
I looked down a little and to the right, seeing a tall figure standing in front of a child that was most likely a crimson demon. A colorful ball of mana started gathering at the figure's extended hand. The spell was taking too long, and the woman seemed to be monologuing.
I sighed and extended a hand, a tiny, white ball materializing from nowhere.
"White Nova."
The world exploded into white.
I felt a drain on my mana reserves, but it was nothing like it was in the developing stages. The blast lasted a few seconds before it thinned and slowly it disappeared.
The temple was gone... and so was the monster.
... Holy shit.
I stored that as a "Last resort" and looked at the other two people in the clearing where there was nothing left now. And to think that I was going to try that out with Ethan... He lives to see another day.
Walking over slowly, I looked at the taller person, her yellow eyes looking at me in astonishment, her black coat fit her tightly and she had her hood up, I'd never seen her in my life.
Mana flowed throughout my body as I prepared for battle.
"And who might you be?"
I narrowed my eyes as she seemed startled for a moment but before long, she regained her composure. Crouching down to get on an eye level with me.
"I'm sorry mister, there seems to be a misunderstanding, you see, I was trying to protect the little miss."
I looked at the girl who was watching me with astonishment and raised an eyebrow. She kept staring at me. Sighing, I rubbed my head, ruffled my hair, and looked back at the woman who took off her hood.
I needed my brother, he was better at these situations.
"Very well, would the both of you like to come over for some tea?"
The little girl nodded her head so fast that I thought it would fall off, while the woman seemed slightly hesitant.
"W-well, alright."
I walked closer keeping a close eye on the woman who did the same with me. A teleportation magic circle glowed below our feet and I put a hand on the little girl's head, ribbing it in reassurance.
A second later, we were back in my house, more specifically in the living room. My brother was there, sitting on the couch with one leg over the other while pointing out something to Yunyun in the book she was reading.
Absently I recognised that it was the one that I gifted her about advanced magic creation.
Smiling slightly, I crouched down and motioned the girl to my sister.
"Why don't you play with my sister until the tea is done?"
The girl was still looking at me with sparkles practically bursting from her eyes and nodded again more subdued this time.
Yunyun looked up when we teleported inside the house and didn't even spare a glance at the strange woman I brought inside the house, instead, she was focused on the little girl that was about her age.
"Hello! I'm Yunyun! Wanna be my friend?"
That was adorable.
The little girl nodded again and looked down at the black ball she was holding.
"Uh-"
I extended a hand, causing her to look back at me with confusion.
"I'll hold onto that while you and my sister get to know together, is that alright?"
Without much thought, she placed the item in my hand and ran off with my sister.
Looking at the ball that was missing some pieces, I narrowed my eyes. A magical item, most likely a seal of some sort. I glanced at the woman who was just standing there under my brother's gaze awkwardly, occasionally taking glances at what I was holding.
I see.
Walking over to the couch Ethan was sitting on, I took a seat myself, while motioning her to sit opposite us.
While she was doing that, I took out my adventurer's card and took a look at it, blinked, rubbed my eyes, and looked at it again.
Level thirty-four?
I gained ten whole levels from that one monster. Neat. My health and strength gained a twenty-point boost with strength more than health but my magic power reached ninety-nine with that.
A forty-point boost. Damn, what the hell was that thing?
I blinked a few times and looked at the available stat points I could use to learn more magic, One hundred and sixty-eight. Bummer, one more and I would be golden, for the memes.
Fifty-nine points were gained in a minute.
"Okay, let's get this over with, who are you?"
I started the questioning because that was what it was. Me and my brother were here, even if she was a powerful make, she would not get out of this village.
She blinked at the sudden change of tone.
"I-uh, I'm Wolbach... an Arch Wizzard."
I raised an eyebrow at that, that was it? My brother remained silent, observing but he kept an eye on her nonetheless. Even if he did not know what was going on.
"Well then, mind telling me why that beast I killed and you have the same magic signature? Or do you want me to draw conclusions?"
She tensed, and my mana flared.
The room grew heavy with pressure, magic circles around the room came to life, lighting the room in different colors.
Silence reigned inside the room before she finally broke.
"Okay, okay, I'll tell you, just pout the magic circles away, please."
