Capítulo 17: Outrageous Rumors

The impenetrable darkness of the night, like the skillful hand of an artist, painted everything with a mysterious hue. The pure white moonlight, like a stroke of white paint, assisted the artist in drawing the scenes happening inside the house on the windows for outsiders to admire.

Thus, the pitch-black night acquired an exciting allure.

Ah~

A member of the Nara clan standing outside the yard saw what was happening inside the room. She gasped and quickly covered her mouth with both hands. Then she hid in the bushes, secretly observing the second-floor room where Nara Ryoko was.

Unexpectedly, the clan's secret Shadow Imitation Jutsu could be used in such a way.

Watching the female shadow sitting on the male shadow's lap, the Nara clan member in the bushes instinctively licked her dry lips, her throat slightly parched.

So exciting.

At this moment, Nara Ryoko, sitting on a chair, glanced deeply at Uchiha Asuka opposite her and said in a low voice.

"Logically, my information is highly confidential. It's not surprising that you found out my name and address, but where did you get so much detailed information from?"

"Oh, someone sold you out."

Bang!

Upon hearing this, a surge of betrayal instantly rushed into her mind. Nara Ryoko slapped the table and stood up, appearing in front of Asuka with a Body Flicker, grabbing Asuka by the collar and gritting her teeth.

"Who was it?"

Seeing Ryoko's nose almost pressing against his face, Asuka leaned back and said without thinking.

"Daida."

"Hmph!"

Hearing the name Daida, Nara Ryoko snorted coldly. She had a vague suspicion earlier, but knowing that a teammate had betrayed her still hurt.

That bastard can sell my information now; will he sell me to the enemy on the battlefield?

"Actually, you don't need to be so angry. If you sell me Daida's information, you two will be even, right?"

"Don't even think about it."

Seeing that he was refused, Asuka unhurriedly took out a scroll from his pocket and played with it for a while before speaking.

"You joined them to find a way to cure your son, didn't you? Bring him back from the hospital. I can cure that illness."

"Really?"

Suddenly hearing this news, Nara Ryoko looked at Asuka in disbelief.

Her two-year-old son had been lying in the hospital for over a year due to an untreatable illness.

During this time, she would visit the hospital whenever she had free time to accompany her son. If it weren't for the swelling on her cheeks, which was hard to explain, she wouldn't have appeared at home.

After a moment of silence, she placed her hand on the scroll Asuka handed over, her voice trembling.

"Really?"

"More or less. If you can bring Tsunade over, she can cure it too."

"What do you want me to do?"

"Just pass on some information. My dream is to know even if your sama changes their underwear."

"Don't joke around. We have seals on our mouths; there's no way we can reveal sama's information."

"That's just a metaphor. If you receive any missions related to Uchiha in the future, you can secretly inform me."

Asuka rolled his eyes at her. Seeing Nara Ryoko still staring at her warily, Asuka couldn't help but feel a bit speechless.

"Don't worry, I'm not interested in you, and I won't ask you to do anything dangerous. If you feel that what I ask you to do is dangerous, just refuse.

Moreover, you don't need to worry about me using your son as leverage. I'll cure his illness first, let him go to school like a normal kid, graduate, and do missions."

Hearing this, Nara Ryoko fell silent. She had just thought that the other party would propose some harsh conditions, or even have some bad intentions towards her. Unexpectedly, the other party did not restrict her at all, and seemed to be intentionally helping her.

Looking into the clear eyes of this Uchiha, Nara Ryoko directly voiced her doubts.

"Why? Why are you helping me like this?"

Asuka shrugged, took a sip of tea from the table, and casually replied.

"Because we live in the same village and have been living together for 51 years. Isn't it normal for villagers to help each other when there are no conflicts of interest?

You are aware of the conflict between the Senju and Uchiha. When Tsunade was still in Konoha, she often criticized the Uchiha but still treated many of their patients.

A healer's benevolence, performing acts of compassion with noble conduct, is just. It is a way of being true to both heaven and earth and one's conscience."

Seeing the suspicious look in her eyes, Asuka's mouth twitched and he revealed his true purpose.

"The real purpose of treating your son is to make you remember this favor in the future, and at a critical moment, pass on some information crucial to the Uchiha Clan's future."

Is that so?

Nara Ryoko couldn't help but fall into self-doubt. She didn't quite believe that someone from the Uchiha would suddenly care about her as a villager, but hearing this true purpose didn't seem completely believable either.

Forget it.

As long as her son was cured, this guy would have no leverage over her. If he really tried to make her do something dangerous in the future, she could always quit the ninja ranks and repay the favor in the next life.

Meanwhile.

In the bushes outside the room.

That Nara clan member was almost dazzled by what she saw.

What did she just see?

Nara Ryoko was manipulating her shadow, first violently grabbing the collar of another shadow, then pressing her face against the other in a kiss.

Hmm.

This Nara clan member thought for a moment and roughly understood the reason for Ryoko's anger. It was nothing more than her husband leaving behind a widow and orphan, going to the Pure Land alone. She felt sad inside and, if she suddenly conjured up her husband's shadow, it might be too much for her to handle.

Tsk tsk!

Looking at the two shadows tightly pressed together, this Nara clan member shook her head, intending to leave. She had never realized before that Ryoko was such a devoted person.

The clan member turned around and took one last look at the two shadows in the room. When she clearly saw the emotional expression on the male shadow's face, she froze.

Rubbing her eyes hard, she looked at the scene in the room in disbelief, muttering to herself.

"Ryoko... is she so desperate for a 'happy life'? Conjuring a shadow is one thing, but to conjure up that... This... this..."

Seeing Ryoko's shadow, she fell silent.

This Nara clan member instinctively reached out and grasped the air.

Hmm.

No feeling at all.

It seems Ryoko is really sick.

The next day, at dawn.

The Nara clan member who had squatted in the bushes all night walked out of her house with dark circles under her eyes. She looked at the red sun in the sky and muttered to herself.

"What is the feeling of grasping air? Why did I grasp all night and feel nothing?"

"Naomi, what are you mumbling about so early in the morning?"

Hearing a familiar voice behind her, Naomi turned around and greeted the person weakly.

"Good morning, sister."

"Naomi, what's wrong with you?"

"Sigh!"

After sighing, Naomi looked at her sister's concerned expression, motioned for her to come closer, and whispered in her ear.

"Sister, I have a secret to tell you. I need your advice. But you can't tell anyone else, okay? It's just between us sisters."

Taking a look at her sister's haggard face, she nodded, signaling her to continue.

Naomi then described everything she had seen and heard the night before, along with her own doubts, to her sister in full detail.

After listening to Naomi's description, she instinctively reached out and grasped the air, her face showing the same bewildered expression.

No feeling at all.

However, seeing the curious look in her sister's eyes, she patted Naomi's shoulder and teased.

"You might understand this feeling when you find a boyfriend in the future."

Without waiting for Naomi to ask more questions, she quickly made an excuse and slipped away.

Though she didn't understand this matter either, her well-informed best friend surely would.

The sun was high in the sky, and it was already noon.

Only then did Ryoko push open the door, taking deep breaths of the fresh air outside.

Last night was the most restful sleep she had had in a year.

Finally, there was hope for her son's illness.

"Good afternoon, Sister Yoshino."

After greeting the Clan Head's wife passing by her door, Nara Ryoko closed her eyes and began sunbathing.

The last time she felt so relaxed and comfortable under the sun was probably two years ago.

Nara Yoshino stood there in a daze, her gaze becoming complex as she looked at Ryoko on the lounge chair.

Although she didn't understand medicine, she understood matters between men and women.

Ryoko's face was rosy and glowing, she seemed very happy, and there were no dark circles under her eyes. Her sleep quality last night must have been excellent. Moreover, the cold, aloof demeanor that used to keep people at a distance was gone.

Could the rumors spreading in the clan this morning be true??

Did the widow's grieving period end after just one year?
