Navien Lagton was furious when he entered the library, the large hall was vacant as expected. Nixon had already made his exit knowing well that today was Professor Langton's scheduled visit to the palace library.
'He is too smart for a baron,' Navien mused, 'but, having a smart dog isn't bad, they can sniff things earlier, you don't need to explain things to them, it saves time.'
Manila had been waiting from before, her dark circles, and sunken cheeks said that she must be terrified to the point of not eating and sleeping well. He was proud of having such command over his children. That's how the discipline should be in the real aristocratic families. He was the patriarch so his orders were absolute. If one would let their children run things their way, they would become imbecile like that brat. Pure blood line was absolutely irreplaceable.
She nervously stood up, looking up from her book, and bowed down courteously, "Father... I mean professor."
"Watch where you are, and what you are speaking" He slammed the desk which made an echo in the empty hallroom.
They were supposed to speak in the Empire's language, she already made a music before it even started.
"I apologise, Professor."
"What's with that look?" He spoke with disgust on his face, "You are not attending a mourning it's the biggest wedding and engagement of the society. Such a disgrace!"
Manila had hurried to the library, she had no time to play dress up first thing in the morning, but there was no point in giving explanation.
"You did a terrible job already, neither could you get closer to that girl, my men couldn't find her heirloom and the box."
"So it was you who arranged the break in?" She was stunned.
"Yes because I couldn't trust your efficiency. On top of that you couldn't seduce Nathenel. I had heard that he was into you, then what happened? Must be because you don't pay any attention to your appearance. Look that that Palwalker girl. Even the Lilith Tristan is after him even though she is betrothed."
"Professor I don't like him..."
"Shut up. It's not whom you like. I need him for the stature, I need his title, you know we are here for a greater cause. That brat, he dared to look down upon me today. Had he become my son in law. If only I had paid more attention on your etiquette classes. So that you could seduce him. I even pressurised Rosalie. But he didn't budge.Why don't you visit his bedroom at night?"

But grandfather married that woman later, so in a way Rosalie is your sister.Me and Nathenel we are cousins..."
"Watch your mouth. Don't dare to call that girl with such sinfulbloodline my sister. Nobody accepts a second marriage in Langton family. We don't share an ounce of blood. But, the reality is she rose up the ladder, her skills are better than her mother, of course those looks are unmatched. Now she is a Magnolia, and her son is the head, she has Senator Dietrich with her, that woman still subdues a man in bed. You should have been the Lady Magnolia, a pure blood by all means. A Palwalker is taking that place. They have the blood of a prostitute in the family.Do you understand my words?"
Manila nodded in obedience, staying silent was better than facing her father's wrath. Navien narrowed his eyes to read her countenance and spoke after a pause,
"It's almost time for lunch. You better go and dress up for this evening, and make up with that Betrice girl. I hope you won't leave room for suspicion, try to create differences with her and Susan while being amicable to both. Also make Susan insecure and lonely. This marriage can't be stopped, but it can always be annulled later."
THUD
A book dropped suddenly with a loud noise, disturbing the trail of conversation. Alarmed, both of them looked around, was there someone here eavesdropping on them? That's dangerous, because then they would have to be exterminated. Although they were speaking in the language of the empire, but one couldn't take chances. His eyes looked for the origin of noise, the book was still on the floor, and just above it was a gap on the shelve.
Eve had come to visit the gigantic library, it was quite a long walk from the main palace. However, this place was like a gold mine, 'I must bring Susan here.She would love it' Susan came to her mind as she saw the endless collection of books that this library housed, it's a waste that nobody comes to read here, excited Eve travelled from one shelf to another, the cataloguing is a bit dated but it is immaculate.
Mr.Beloiz is nowhere to be found, she would thank him when the meet, it's indeed a treasure that she is spectating.
The section on the Empire's language piqued her interested, as Evelyn travelled there, at one of the farthest corners, she discovered a flight of stairs which lead to another floor just behind the shelf.
A hostile conversation was ongoing, at first she had no interest in what they were talking about, but then Rosalie's voice entered her ears, she was agitated, Eve tried to peek from the gaps of the books. Soon her ears adjusted to the level of whisper, they were speaking fluently in Empire's tongue, the more she heard the greater her eyes widened, her mouth turned agape, her heartbeat accelerated, she was scared that even they would hear it. She shouldn't be here and these secrets were dark enough to be locked up in a dungeon.
Hearing about Navien Langton's greedy interest on Magnolia's position, Eve was stupefied. Also knowing about Rosalie Magnolia, Eve was shocked, and her thought was, 'Does Sio know about this?' The book dropped out of her bewilderment .
"Lord! Save me I would be caught." Eve looked for a place to hide while lowering her head, but there was none.
Eve prayed in her mind, she didn't wish to due futile death here at the library. She had to tell Sio about everything, the Langtons were plotting a devious scheme, and she was a victim too. 'No... No... I don't want to die. please save me Lord. Have mercy.'
They were hostile and dangerous, and Manila knew about her knowledge of Empire's Language. If she would get caught any moment, then she would be mudered. Eve suddenly felt and hand covering her mouth and the next moment she was inside a pitch dark room.
