Struck by a bolt of thunder Evelyn stood there stupefied. She was aware that this path was dangerous. She was watching her father's murderer right in front of her, his despicable, monster like desires spreading like venom everywhere. It was creeping her out, the air around her felt heavy to the point of choking her. She knew it was all in her mind, as she trembled watching the filthy act of the man and the woman, her disgust and hatred were soaring to the point of insanity.
They were dangerous creatures bred by greed, guided by lust, and they could reach any lethal point, obliterating whoever got in their way.
'You must leave now Eve. You can get caught here and die a futile death.' Her inner voice called out, but her legs refused to move, her eyes refused to shut close. Both her fear and anger were breaching her reasons. A murderer and her accomplice, both of them was her lady-in-waiting and the other one she had took for a, trustworthy friend.
All this time she was living with them, those whose hands were bloodied by her father's bloods, and innumerable others who had died because of their perverted intents. Evelyn felt her who body shaking out of shock. But now atleast she knew something, the truth which she had been looking for, had been with her, in that little box, and suddenly, her father's letter crossed her mind. The letter which she had received with the heirloom.
'Sio... Yes I need to talk to him' the moment those words rung her mind, their indistinct conversation reached her ears.
"Anything
"Alright, then prove that you are useful this time. Only then I will make you completely mine."
"I want Anastasio dead."
Those words hit Eve like a blow from a cannon. A gasp escaped her, and she also heard another gasp almost in unison to her. Looking sideways over her shoulder, she found the most unexpected person. In a disheveled state, covering her mouth out of shock and trembling in fear stood Rosalie de Magnolia. She looked at Evelyn at the same time, and their eyes met, she was sobbing silently. It was quite dark, however even then her expression were unmistakable, it belonged to someone who was betrayed.
Fortunately the two were so engrossed in their act that they didn't notice her and Rosalie. Being caught by Evelyn, her eyes widened, as Rosalie took a flight, even before Eve could approach her.
She had never seen Rosalie in such a state, she had come out in her night wear, bare feet. Why was she here? And how desperate is she to come out here at this hour? The only reason she could be here us definitely Nixon Beloiz. What is their relationship? She didn't know, at this point Eve couldn't trust anymore. But, one thing was definitely clear among all the unanswered questions that were banging the doors of her mind, this was a big revelation to even Rosalie.
Without wasting another second, Eve chased her, she had to find that woman and get words out of her.
Splash!
She heard the sound of something heavy falling in the water, it was Rosalie.
The lake by the garden was small and yet deep, Anastasio had warned her about the under currents, "it might look small, but it's very deep don't even think about dipping your feet or doing anything crazy. I know you get easily tempted when you see water bodies."
"Yes I love to play in water, I never skipped my swimming lessons. And you become a worrywart when you are near them. Don't you know how to swim Duke Faunoa." She had laughed and teased him.
But he had seemed to darken and coil up, "No, because that woman is scared of water. And when I was a child she used to panic about me taking swimming lessons. Her fear had caught me too."
Eve understood whom he was referring to, it was his mother.
And now she had jumped into the lake, without thinking Eve jumped into the water.
The moment she dived into the water, panic caught Rosalie's body instinctively, she was going down, but then she felt a sudden pull. Some one was pulling her hard by her wrist, her survival instinct grabbed that arm. A woman's hand. It can't be that girl, definitely not her, after all I have said and done with her...
Rosalie cursed herself as she felt her body emerging out of water, in the end even death wasn't easy. 'You are such a coward Rosalie. You still want to live?'
Eve already knew even though Sio had promised that he wouldn't be overprotective for the time being and make it convincing for those snakes that they had really broke the engagement. However the moment Eve came out of the water with Rosalie who was coughing owing to the amount of water that had entered her lungs. Eve noticed two guards had already emerged out of the blue. Where had they been? How had they been following her?
"Are you alright Madam?" The female guard asked draping a jacket. Eve nodded in response.
Rosalie felt the soft soil beneath her, water had been pumped out of her chest. Her vision was becoming clearer, a Eve's face appeared in front of her, just like the daylight that was making it's presence in the sky. She is too bright for her dark soul. Aghast Rosalie spewed her thoughts, "Why did you save me?"
With a cold expression Eve responded, "Because we are different. I haven't been taught to abandon helpless people. I can't turn a blind eye when I watch someone dying. I saved you because you are his mother. He still treasures you somewhere in his heart." Eve stood up to leave.
"Please take her inside and call for medical help.I shall ask Susan to handle the rest. And Nobody should know about it." She ordered the guard. She had no time, Eve had to meet Sio and tell him everything, time was running out.
Stopping in her track, he glanced once again at Rosalie, who look weak filled with guilt and in severe pain, it was hard to tell if she is the same Rosalie de Magnolia she has known all this time.
"I don't know why you were there? Or what relationship you have with them. But I learnt it from a certain someone that it's good to keep people indebted to you. So you do owe me this one. The choice is yours, you can choose to save your child, or shake hands with those murderers. However if you choose to do the latter, you shall burn in the same fire I would put then into. I wouldn't let anyone lay a scratch on my man."
The constant vibration in his cell phone woke him up, the name that could make him smile like an idiot the first thing in the morning.
Wifey the screen read.
"Hello Mrs. Faunoa. You were missing me this bad huh?" His just awakened voice was deep and smooth.
"Sio" The panicked voice on the other side made a frown appear on his forehead.
"We need to meet it's urgent"
"Eve.Are you okay? I am coming..."
"Not here. Not here" She said out of panic.
"I will send you the address."
Anastasio was even worried now.
"Sio do you perhaps have the box of the heirloom I gave you? Bring it. Don't... Don't tell anything to anyone." She paused for a moment, he knew she was trying hard to hide her sobs.
"Sio. Please be safe. I love you."
