Isabella had always heard that the stories where the magical prince returned from the depths of hell to save his princess were fake stories to appease kids with dreams.
She had never considered them real because no prince ever came for her when she needed him the most. Her city had burned in flames alongside her family, and she found out about the massacre of the innocent during that time. All were slaughtered like lambs and cattle when soldiers hungered for food after a won battle.
How could I ever believe in such a fantasy?
When so much suffering had passed over her and her people, no knight or prince shined their light on them, but right now, all the silly stories came true, and her prince was standing at the door of the barracks where she lay on the floor.
"What the hell is going on?! How are you here?!" Henry shouted in anger and surprise. He leaned on the gate lever for support as he tried to raise the to shoot Edward. Edward jumped to the other side of the outer wall.
"The gun is empty!! Attack him!" Isabella screamed at the door, and she had already used every bullet present in that against the Italians. The gun was empty, but the blade was still intact.
"Damn, you!!" Henry pressed the trigger, and nothing came out. His eyes were at the door but his hands moved. He raised his gun atop his head and grabbed it as Isabella would've clutched a spear. Isabella knew he was planning on killing her now.
Henry used the support of the wall to push himself forward, and the knife of the bayonet came flying towards her. Isabella tightened her legs and arms, the full force of her body. She waited till the last moment, she saw Henry taking his first step towards her, then he came closer and closer, and soon he was falling to stab her.
"Isabella!" Edward's noise came from the door, but Isabella was focused somewhere else because she knew the one attacking her wasn't. She was ready when the knife finally began falling.
She jerked herself to the side nearly like a frog, but instead of going away from him, she jumped towards him. The knife hit the floor where she previously was, and she struck at Henry's legs. He fell flat on the ground along with the bayonet, and Isabella had survived another day.
Edward came running her and Henry. He kicked the gun away before Henry could move. He grabbed Henry by his arm and jerked him away against the wall, and Isabella saw 2 more men enter the barracks.
"Percy, hold him. Take that gun away. Make sure he remains alive and interrogate him. Nolan brought me the suitcase that I found. Also, gather the injured here, and they can get medical aid." Edward ordered the two like they were his crewmates. The two moved at his word, and one ran outside the barracks while the other carried Henry outside.
Edward got down on his knees and sat on the ground near Isabella on the ground. He lifted her from the ground, and he did not remove the knife from where it was. Sensing she would bleed.
Her head was in his lap, and their eyes were meeting each other once again. The allure was the same as before as their tired eyes stared at each other, but Isabella and Edward smiled far more incredibly than before. Isabella's heart fluttered more than ever.
"Your work is grander than any expectation that I had. I never thought you would get this done so fast and get the thieves marching under you with such low times. You are the king of seas for a reason." She praised Edward from the core of her heart. She wanted to say so much more and try so much she had never before but her body grew weaker.
"I am impressed by your ability to stay alive during every situation. I saw a lot of bodies outside when we came here. You did well, Thank you."
Edward caressed his hand over her hair, pressing her head gently. He knew she could fight no more, and she had done her best better than Edward could ask. At the moment, he needed her to calm down and help herself and the injured others.
"I have your suitcase, Edward." Nolan, the young-looking person. He had a sharp chin and brown eyes, and he held Isabella's suitcase and kept it on the ground next to Isabella.
"Isabella, I need to stay up for a while. We have a thief or two who is a doctor. Please, tell them which medical equipment you have. Your medical supplies are our last hope to support the injured and there is a good amount. So, stay strong for a bit long." Edward clutched Isabella's hand with his own.
Isabella smirked her face with such a simple trick to make her work more. Edward knew there was a knife in her spine, but he had also already seen her wearing a leather coat. She got up from Edward's lap while he helped her. Isabella was sitting now, her smile still there.
"So much to quacksalver. You take too much advantage of me, Edward. You owe me one." Isabella's smile was enough of an answer for Edward. She would bear a bit longer and Edward owed her.
"Bring the people who know about medications," Edward ordered Nolan, who moved at the words. The boy seemed an active and focused man to Isabella now. She reached for her suitcase and opened it up.
"I'll be your first patient," Edward said even before Isabella had a good look inside the suitcase. It surprised Isabella when he started taking the initiative. He was always distant and far and now he was getting closer at great speed.
"Are you okay, Edward? Did the drink of beef liver do something to you? You seem so different."
"...." The words Edward aback, the calm on his face vanished. Instead, he looked more stressed now, filled with suspicion.
Why did I say that?!! It was going so smoothly. We would have been talking about kids when this would've ended. Mother Elana, Why am I so stupid?!!!
"I think we should focus on fixing you first. Please tell me what is wrong?!"
Isabella felt her blood rush more from the anger of what she said on total impulse. She quickly shuffled through her supplies to find something to change the subject. In the end, she encountered something rather weird.
She lifted a layer of the suitcase to see under it, both from the left and right. The same things were missing throughout.
"Things are missing from my suitcase. There is no water and food I kept in the earlier." Isabella called out the disturbance.
"It must mean someone robbed it of food and other and they did not understand what the rest of the material was, so they left it alone." That was the most probable explanation they could have at the moment but Isabella's expression did not change, Edward was not asking about the real questions.
"Edward, who stole it wasn't the question. The question is when?"
"..."
Suddenly, the atmosphere was more tense, and the question passed Edward's mind. What was Isabella trying to convey?
Come on Edward. Think haven't you seen me open my suitcase? Why don't you remember.
"?!" Suddenly, Percy entered the building in a rush, his clothes drenched completely as the rain grew powerful. He had a gun tied to his back and a piece of paper in his hand.
"What happened?!"
"Edward?! A third letter had arrived! They released another man."
