Capítulo 43: Baseball?

At Tokyo Jujutsu High, a tense atmosphere pervades the meeting room as Ijichi reads off the grim list of casualties. The room falls silent as the full scope of the disaster unfolds: Mahito's involvement is confirmed, and it's reported that Cursed Wombs 1-9 have been stolen.

Ijichi's report underscores the gravity of the situation. "Mahito was indeed involved. We've confirmed that he took the Cursed Wombs 1-9. The situation is critical."

In a separate interrogation room, Juzo Kumiya remains tight-lipped under questioning. His responses are minimal and frustratingly vague. "I was tricked by a monk," Juzo insists, his tone evasive. The information provided is of little help in piecing together the full extent of the enemy's plans.

Meanwhile, Gojo Satoru reflects on the breach of Tengen's barrier. "It seems they managed to sneak through using plants," he muses. "The barrier was designed to obscure the school from view, not to provide comprehensive protection."

Principal Gakuganji, deeply concerned, proposes canceling the Goodwill Event in light of the events. "Given what has happened, it might be prudent to cancel the event. Our focus needs to be on the immediate threats."

However, Gojo counters, his voice firm and resolute. "It's not for us to decide whether or not to cancel. The decision belongs to the students. Besides, it's not like it has to be a fight, right?"

...

In the healing ward, the atmosphere is relaxed despite the recent chaos. Megumi propped up in bed and munching on food, looks more like his usual self, thanks to the medical attention he's received. Yuji and Nobara have come to visit him.

Nobara eyes Yuji curiously. "So, what was going on with you and Aoi during the battle? You seemed... different."

Yuji shifts awkwardly, his face flushing slightly. "Ah, yeah. I wasn't exactly myself back then. I guess I got a bit carried away."

He glances at Megumi, his expression softening. "But I'm really glad you managed to recover. Shoko was able to remove those Cursed Buds since I was out of cursed energy. I'm just relieved you're okay."

Megumi nods, a determined look crossing his face. "You've gotten stronger, Yuji. But don't think I've forgotten our rivalry. I'm going to surpass you."

Before Yuji can respond, Aoi suddenly appears in the doorway, a broad smile on his face. "I expect nothing less from my brother's friends!" he declares, his voice full of pride.

Yuji, caught off guard by Aoi's sudden appearance, stumbles over his words. "Uh, yeah, thanks. I—"

Overwhelmed by the awkwardness of the situation, Yuji quickly makes his escape, muttering excuses as he flees the ward.

...

Satoru Gojo called all the students to a meeting in the main hall of Jujutsu High. The air was thick with tension and uncertainty following the recent events that had shaken their world. The loss of lives and the chaos they had endured left many, including Yuji and several others, hesitant about moving forward.

As the students gathered, Gojo addressed them with his usual casual demeanor but with a serious undertone. "I know things have been tough. We've faced losses, and the weight of what's happened is heavy on all of us."

Yuji glanced around at his classmates, their faces reflecting a mix of grief and determination. He spoke up, his voice wavering slightly, "I just... I'm not sure if it's right to continue with the Goodwill Event. It feels wrong, given everything that's happened."

Aoi Todo, who had been quietly observing, suddenly stood up, his usual jovial demeanor replaced with a more serious tone. "Listen, everyone. Without a doubt, we have experienced hell but if we let that ruin our lives, wouldn't that be admitting they won?"

His impassioned speech struck a chord with the group. The room fell silent as students and teachers alike considered his words. Slowly, nods of agreement began to ripple through the crowd.

Gojo, with a grin that masked his approval, decided to shake things up even more. "Since we're all in agreement to move forward, let's do something different. Forget the individual competitions. We'll have a team event instead."

Yuji was handed a hat and asked to draw from it. With a mix of curiosity and trepidation, he reached into the hat and pulled out a slip of paper. His eyes widened as he read the words aloud, "Baseball."

The reaction was immediate and mixed. Principal Yaga and Principal Gakuganji exchanged surprised looks. They had been planning to keep the traditions intact, but now the event was taking an unexpected turn.

The baseball game began with a burst of energy. Miwa stepped up to the plate, bat in hand, ready to face the pitcher. On the sidelines, Utahime and Momo were engaged in a heated debate over the rules, adding a touch of humor to the situation.

Kamo, having taken his turn at bat, approached Yuji, who was crouched behind the plate as the catcher. The game paused for a moment as Kamo eyed Yuji, a curious expression on his face. "Hey, Yuji," Kamo called out, "why did you become a jujutsu sorcerer?"

Yuji, catching his breath between innings, looked over at Kamo with a serious expression. "I want to help people," he explained, "so that I won't die alone. It's not just about fighting curses. It's about making a difference in the world, and in the end, knowing that I've done something meaningful."

Noritoshi, who had been listening, nodded in understanding. "I get that," he admitted. "I became a jujutsu sorcerer to help my mother. I understand the drive to do something greater, to make sure we're not just living for ourselves."

Impressed by Yuji's sincerity, Noritoshi decided to take a step back. When it was his turn to bat, he chose not to swing, resulting in an easy strikeout by Maki, who was pitching for the Tokyo team.

With the sides switched, Nobara took her position at bat. Mechamaru, disguised as a robotic pitcher, operated a pitching machine, sending balls hurtling toward her.

Nobara's eyes narrowed in determination as she prepared to face the oncoming pitches. Seeing her rival's advantage, she walked over to first base, glaring at Mai, who was stationed there. "You think you can just get away with this?" Nobara challenged.

With a fierce swing, Nobara finally connected with the ball, sending it flying. Megumi, positioned as a base runner, sacrificed himself with a strategic bunt, allowing Nobara to advance to the next base. Panda and Maki capitalized on the opportunity, their teamwork helping the team score three runs in quick succession.

However, Momo, ever the opportunist, used her broom to catch Maki's next ball. The Tokyo students cried foul, accusing Momo of cheating. Aoi, who was waiting for his turn, stepped up to bat with a grin. "I want to face Yuji as the pitcher, not the catcher," he declared, much to the annoyance of Maki.

As Aoi approached the plate, Maki, clearly irritated by Todo's insistence, pitched the ball with a fierce throw, striking Aoi squarely in the face. The impact left Aoi staggering, but the other students couldn't help but laugh and cheer for Maki's impressive pitch. Yuji, observing the scene, "Oh...I guess everyone hates, Todo?"

"Salmon."
