Capítulo 4: CHAPTER 4 - ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

Elena's eyes almost popped out when she said that, now she felt the same, way she saw Cameron about an hour ago in her room. Surprised in a different way.

"I didn't invite him, he just came," Patricia lowered her voice.

"Okay. He just wants to see Cameron, right? Maybe just a little reunion," Elena hastily controlled herself.

"Listen, Elena. I've been friends with you for a long time, and I know exactly that you're going to like this one. So if you don't like Cameron at least you should try this one. Do you understand?"

Elena was smart enough to instantly understand what Patricia had just said. But she chose to shake her head as if she had absolutely no idea where the two of them were talking.

"Looks like I have to get out now. Call me in ten to fifteen minutes if you change your mind. Okay?" Patricia waited for Elena to nod her head before she actually came out.

"For God's sake, I'm sure I'm crazy this time to think there are two Harvard-educated guys across my office and both of them are after me." Elena tidied up her messy sheets of files and put them back in the folder. "Of course in a different sense, one is here because—perhaps—wanted to see if I was who Patricia said I was, because I'm sure Patricia must have told me about that man I don't know her name at all and the other man ..." Elena paused for a moment from the independent chatter that he was doing while thinking of the appropriate words to describe a Cameron Jones. "Aih... I really get sick of thinking about that arrogant and haughty man." Elena finally found the right two words to describe Cameron.

"I heard you talking alone, should I introduce you to a psychologist or if you think it's at a later stage I have a psychiatrist acquaintance?"

Elena looked up for the umpteenth time and found Cameron sneaking a second time, entering her room without being heard.

"Intruder." Elena glared. "What did you hear?" asked Elena quickly. Cameron timidly heard the whole thing she had to say.

"Arrogant and haughty. Who are you saying that for?"

"Who else if not you," Elena replied as she got up from her work chair, passed Cameron and picked up a fairly thick book that was on the bookshelf across from her desk. Elena secretly squinted her eyes to check whether the man Patricia was going to introduce had left Cameron's room or not. Luckily Elena found no signs of life in Cameron's room. Maybe home or talking to Patricia somewhere.

Elena turned and found Cameron was now right in front of her, only about three centimeters in front of her.

"Is there anything else you're looking for? Maybe I can help you?"

Elena raised her eyebrows. "Get out of my way or this book will fly right in your face." Elena hissed.

"Wow, wow, wow. I can clearly see that you tried really hard to be able to do that to me."

"Indeed," said Elena. Then she pressed against Cameron's chest with her index finger. "Listen, yes, Cameron. I would totally do that if you sneaked back in here."

Damn, his chest is very broad and the muscles she just squeezed made her heart suddenly beat really fast. Elena turned her head away, forcibly pushed Cameron who was blocking her path and returned to her desk. She felt her face heat up but not heat up with anger.

Patricia is right. That was all Elena needed to emphasize now.

"I came here to confirm something," Cameron said.

"Say it quickly," Elena retorted.

"You actually signed up for my mom's golf club?" asked Cameron with a serious face.

GLEK

Embarrassing!

"I don't understand what you're saying," Elena dodged.

"I thought you were smart but you're on a much lower level than me," Cameron joked as he pulled up a chair in front of Elena and started to sit there. Leaning his back very comfortably as if he was inviting a close friend for a casual conversation.

"And I could have taught you if you wanted my help," Cameron chirped. His face showed a resounding victory after saying that to Elena.

Elena had time to remember the name of the golf club she had contacted earlier. But she didn't find any element of Jones' name there.

Stupid!

Elena cursed again while looking at Cameron. She should be aware that not all the names of a group have elements of the owner's name. She should have been a little more careful and sensitive that Cameron's mother was a former golf athlete.

"I can't find the word asking for help from a spoiled man in my life dictionary," said Elena. "I'm really going to beat you even if I have to struggle with something I don't like at all."

"Stubborn woman," Cameron muttered.

"Speaking of which you don't want to just give up?"

"I didn't hear what you were saying. Really."

"Just give up," Cameron repeated.

Elena sighed. "Yes, that's right, Cam." Elena said. "But for the record you have to remember this well, so listen to me. I'm pretty sure that I'm not under stress that I should give up. And if I may have an opinion, to be honest I was a little nervous, and that seems to be normal because they are a very large potential client. After all I've worked here for six years and four years at another firm. So ..." Elena paused, sucking in as much oxygen as possible to continue her long sentences. "It's my job anyway, so I don't really mind what I have to prepare."

Cameron was silent for a moment stiff. Elena's words were like squash balls hissing past her, one that nearly hit her cheek or eye and ended up hitting the wall.

Elena then put on a smile. "I think this is something we don't need to talk about out loud, right?"

Cameron was still silent. He was still thinking about what he had just discovered about Elena. The perfection that Elena had, the stubbornness and sarcasm that Elena always showed. Does it all have to do with the secret? Did he need to use that secret to make Elena stop?

Honestly Cameron knows very well that Elena is enough and even very capable of winning this client. As a lawyer who was more senior than Elena, it was clear she didn't want her self-esteem to be crushed. Even though this is all just an assumption, Cameron still has to be vigilant. But if he had to use Elena's ace, he'd be as much of a loser as most of the jerks he'd met.

Cameron looked at Elena. "You're so funny. Laugh, but in the next few weeks we'll see who's going to laugh like this when Elizabeth and the firm choose which of us is more deserving."

"Now then, when we're done with a little analysis of my soul, do you mind if we make a bet?" asked Elena confidently.

"What are you going to bet on? Your Rolex collection? Your designer handbag collection? Or the two luxury cars you own?" Cameron asked no less smugly with a self-assurance that had instantly doubled than usual.

"Jobs. We have to risk the jobs we have. The winner will kick the loser into the street giving him nothing but 'thank you for the free time'. How?"
