"You are just a loser! You should understand that!" I saw Mom shouting at Dad.
"I am not a loser. Please try to understand what I am saying to you. It's because of your good," Dad replied softly.
"Why are you asking the same question from the evening? You need to understand, I am not interested in your gift," Mom replied to him.
Dad lowered his head.
"But I bought it with love for you. Can't you wear it for me?" Dad replied.
"You know what? You are the reason for this. Because of your cheap dress, I don't want to be embarrassed in front of my friends," Mom said angrily and then went outside from the room.
While seeing her coming outside, I hid beside. Mom went downstairs while I went into her room, seeing Dad sitting on the bed with his head lowered. I could see he was sad.
"Dad, are you okay?" I asked him.
"Yes," he said, trying to smile.
"Dad, don't be sad. Mom just said everything in anger. She didn't mean it," I said, trying to brighten his mood.
"It's okay, Amanda. Today, I will talk to her clearly. I am really tired of this," he said and went outside of the room, while I followed him. He went to the living room where Mom was sitting on the couch.
I went inside and saw Dad standing in front of Mom.
"Dad, tell me what you exactly want. I do everything to make you happy, but you always complain. Today, you said marrying me was your mistake," Dad asked her while she stood up with an angry face and said, "Yes, exactly, that was my biggest mistake, and I would right it by marrying a right man who will not be like you, a broke one," Mom said and went from there.
Now I understand she was talking about Austin, that she would marry someone she finds better than my dad. It was already night, and I was already asleep after crying all day.
The next day, I woke up feeling my head pounding. I decided to make a coffee for myself. I went downstairs to the kitchen, and while I was making the coffee, I saw Mom coming into the kitchen.
"Oh, you're awake?" Mom asked casually, while I didn't want to reply to her, so I just made my coffee and went to the living room. After sitting on the couch, I was sipping my coffee when Mom came there and sat beside me.
"Amanda, why did you leave us there yesterday? You know how embarrassed it was for me in front of Austin," Mom said.
"I don't care, Mom. He is not that important to me," I replied.
"Amanda, you have to accept him. We are getting married next week. He would be your father," Mom said, while I looked at her angrily.
"Mom, if you want to marry him, I won't stop you. But don't ever think he will take my dad's place. I would never accept him as my dad," I replied, trying to make her understand. then I got up from the couch and went to my room.
"Dad, why did you leave me like that? I don't want to live like this. I can't see someone in your place. I wouldn't accept it," I said to myself, while tears were dropping from my eyes.
It had been a week since Mom had announced her marriage with Austin. During this time, I barely talked to Mom. I was angry with her.
I was sitting on the couch when Mom came towards me.
"Amanda, I am going to buy a wedding dress. You can come with me if you need something," Mom said.
"No, I don't need anything," I replied while using my phone.
"Okay then, be ready tomorrow. You have to be there too," she said, and with a confused face, I looked at her as she went out from there.
I was really sad, so I decided to call my best friend to lift up my mood. She picked up the call after some rings and answered.
"Yes, Amanda, how are you?" Jasmine asked excitedly.
"Not so good," I replied sadly.
"Are you okay? What happened?" she asked.
"Can we meet now? I want to talk," I asked her, knowing that talking with her would be better because I was so tense.
"Sure, tell me, are you home?" she asked.
"Yes, I am home. If it's not disturbing you," I replied.
"Not really, you didn't disturb me. Okay, bye. I am coming," she said and hung up the call.
After some time, Lena came to my room and sat beside me in the living room.
"Amanda, now tell me what happened. Why do you look so dull?" she asked, looking into my eyes.
"Jasmine, my mom is getting married," I told her in a sad voice.
"What? Really? With whom?" she asked again.
"Yeah, she has found someone, maybe his friend Austin. She told me a week ago, and I already rejected it, but she doesn't care. Also, her marriage is tomorrow," I replied, tears appearing in my eyes.
"Oh, don't be sad, Amanda. Everything will be okay. Just be strong," she suggested.
"Jasmine, I've tried a lot, but I can't accept him as my father. He doesn't seem like a good person," I told her.
"Amanda, I can understand. You know what you should do now? Just shrug off their thoughts and focus on yourself. I know it's not easy, but believe me, give your mom time. By the time, she will understand what she has done and will realize her mistakes," she suggested.
"Yes, I hope so. She is in love with him that she doesn't care about me," I said, crying hard, pouring out my emotions.
She hugged me and made me stop crying. After some time, she got a call and left. I went to my room after working for some hours, and then I slept.
