Capítulo 33: Chapter 32
MARCOS
We didn't know what Gabriela was talking about, but this was not going to stay that way. I wasn't going to let my best friends fight so we were going to their grandparents' house. You couldn't escape from us there.
Right now, we're in Carlota's car and I could see she was pensive. In part, I understood Gabriela's anger, but on the other hand, I also understood Carlota and everything she did, even though I disagreed, I understood her. We almost lost her once because of Alex, we're not going to let that happen again, neither Alex nor anyone would make us lose Gabriela, because I'm sure she wouldn't stand it this time, something tells me. What I had to focus on now was to calm Carlota down and make her see reason, even a little, that will help Gabriela to be calm as well.
"Carlota, we have to talk about what you are going to say to Gabriela." I started, because if I didn't like something, it was they were angry "What am I supposed to say? I'm sorry? You know full well he won't buy it." She protested and I rolled my eyes. "She won't buy it if you tell her about Alex, but if you tell her because of arguing with her, she'll believe you, I can see you're sorry."
"It's just I don't like to argue with her, Marcos. I had never seen her so angry with someone, let alone defend him like she does with him." She assured me and I agreed, because I knew what she was referring to, but I also understood Gabriela, so I had to do something to fix this "She does it with everyone, Carlota, with the people she loves. You have to understand she loves him; we can't fight that."
"I just don't trust that guy." She snorted and again, I nodded, because I also knew and understood her "I know, but I can assure you if you see him, the way he looks at her, how he treats her and everything, you'll realize he loves her, he's serious." I assured and I could notice how she began to focus her gaze on me "Do you think he loves her?" Carlota asked.
"I believe it, do you think I would let Gabriela do everything she does for him without realizing it? I don't want to see her suffer as much as you do." I guaranteed her, because if there was something I didn't like at all, it was seeing Gabriela as she had been a few years ago.
"It's just don't want her the way she was years ago because of him." She assured "I know, but if Gabriela is able to forgive him, we have to be able to do it too." I tried to reason "But Gabriela is capable of forgiving anyone Marcos, she's a very good person. She doesn't like to be mad at anyone."
"I know, but believe me, she made them pay." I affirmed, because even though it was nothing compared to what Alex did to our best friend, I could see he had suffered because of it "How should that guy suffer?"
"I would do anything worse to him." I answered "Then I'm a little calmer. But something I don't understand how he managed to change so much in these four years?" she asked more to herself than to me "I don't really know." I confessed, but I wasn't going to overthink why and focus more on making Gabriela happy.
"It's just he didn't have those muscles the last time I saw him." Carlota opined and I rolled my eyes. "You've also given him a review, huh? Well, let him know it's all Gabriela's." I joked "I know, I don't want to have anything with him, I leave him all to her." She replied laughing.
Just at that moment we arrived at Gabriela's grandparents' house, we got out of the car and went to the house. When we were going to ring, Ángela appears, her grandmother who smiles at us. "Hey guys, how long not seeing you." Angela said, "Same thing, Angela, can we talk to Gabriela?"
"She's not home right now, she's out for a walk." Ángela answered and both Carlota and I frowned. "With whom?" asked the first. "Nobody as far as I know." She answered with a shrug, "And do you know where it could be?" I asked, but I could get an idea of where she is "No, I have no idea where she could be either."
"Well then let's go find her." Carlota affirmed, starting to turn around to go to the car or to the beach, because we both knew it was something it calmed her. "Why don't you stay a while?" she asked and we denied. Now what I needed is for Gabriela to stop being angry with Carlota.
"We would like to, but we urgently have to talk to her. Don't worry we'll come another time." I assured with a big smile on my face "I hope it's for dinner, Gabriela will be there for dinner, in case you prefer to wait for her." She insisted and something told me Angela really knew where Gabriela was "Don't worry, I think I have a slight idea of where she might be, but we'll come to dinner if that's what you want."
"I'll wait for you for dinner, you better show up here." She friendly threatened and to which we laughed "We will, see you later Angela." We said "Bye guys."
With that, we headed back to the car. Usually, she would go to the beach when she was angry or nervous and, in this case, she happens to be angry, so I decided it was better to go to the beach for her.
"Are you going to tell me where Gabriela could be now? Because I have no idea. There are many beaches near her grandparents' house" Carlota protested and I nodded. "With how cool Gabriela is, do you think she's there? I don't think she's there." She hesitated and I denied it, because even though it was cold for Gabriela, it was most likely that she was there "She won't be bathing, but I think she could be there. We lose nothing by going to look." I countered "True."
She started the car and it didn't take us long to get there. We parked the car and got out. I don't really know how I notice a car that was parked, I think I remember I saw it somewhere, but I don't know where so I don't pay too much attention to it and we walk towards the beach. When we're here, I look at the shore and see Gabriela with someone else, but at this distance I couldn't tell who it was, until we're closer to them I see who she's with and I'm half surprised she's with him. On the other hand, I also expected it, something about what she had told us when we called her made me suspect she was or would be with him.
"Don't fuck with me, that's who I think he is?" Carlota asked with her jaw practically on the ground "You're not wrong. It's Alex." I confirmed, "They look very closely, right? Will they be together?" she questioned, but when I looked in her direction, she had a small smile on her face, which was better than nothing. "I don't really know."
"Wait, remember when she told us Alex was the only one who understood her?" she asked and I frowned, because now I had no idea where she wanted to go with that. "Yeah, what about that?" I inquired, trying to understand what she meant. "She was with him, in the garden. That's why she was so distracted at the party, Gabriela knew he was there and didn't tell us anything."
"Because I would know how you would be." I said, following her train of thought, "Maybe she didn't put me off so much, but do you realize after she left, he was able to be with him? I'm sure she was with him and that's why she told us all that stuff about understanding her and supporting her. It was he who saved her from being run over."
"Well then I'm glad Alex was there, if not, maybe I wouldn't count it. Which is why you have to give him the benefit of the doubt." I tried and Carlota nodded "I'll do it just for it and because I don't want to lose Gabriela's friendship, because otherwise you'd see what was going on here in less than a minute."
"I know, you don't have to tell me." We started laughing and the closer we got, the more impressed we were. We could see their hands clasped, something that before couldn't happen anywhere nearby. I don't know what relationship they had now, but something was happening between them, the relationship they had was beginning to take another direction away from friendship, and it made me happy, because it meant Gabriela could be happy again, happy with Alex.
