GABRIELA
As soon as the car was out of my sight and I turned to go home, I see my sister at the door with that face and it made it clear she wanted to know everything about who the person accompanying me was. I was about to go into the house, but Maria wouldn't let me.
"Can you let me in?" I asked, irritated, "No, you have to answer some questions first." she said crossing his arms. "Questions about what?" I inquired, "Who is the person you came with?"
"A friend." I assured, because I was seeing the idea forming in her head "A friend we never saw and you gave him a kiss." she replied, as if had something to do with it "A kiss on the cheek for your information."
"I know, but you don't even give them to Marcos, he's important to you." My sister stated and I rolled my eyes. "It doesn't have to be important to me, you know. He's just helped me out with a couple of things tonight."
"In what kinds of things?" I was going to answer her in a bad way, but at that moment our grandmother appears at the door, which means I don't answer anymore. "Maria, leave your sister alone, she must be tired." said grandma behind her "Who knows what things she did." my sister mumbled "I just went to a party, I didn't do anything you're thinking."
"I didn't say I was thinking." she replied and I snorted, because even though she didn't say it, it was written all over her face "You did it, it shows and I can see it on your face." I replied "Well, don't argue and let your sister go to sleep or something if she wants."
"Okay, but you know I'm not going to leave this, Gabriela, you know." she assured "We'll see about that, but you also know I don't care what you think, as long as I know the truth." I said, I didn't care what my sister thought "A truth that I will end up discovering."
She went inside the house and my grandmother stared at me, watching me as if she wanted to know what was happening to me or it seems she decided to ask me.
"Gabriela, I know it's none of my business or anything like that, but what's it unites you with that guy?" she asked curiously. "What exactly has to bind me to him?" I asked, raising an eyebrow "I can tell you're happy and he's also the only guy I've seen you smile with since Alex, that's why I'm asking you."
"Grandma, there's nothing wrong with him, he's just new to the university this year and I bumped into him at the party, but there's nothing with him, really, you'd be the first to know." I assured, even though it wasn't entirely true at the moment, "That you know if you need to talk about something, anything, you'll have me there."
"Of course, Grandma, I know and I tell you the same." I said sincerely "Do you want to eat something or have a coffee or do you prefer to go to sleep for a bit before eating?" grandma asked and I nodded "I'm going to have a coffee, to wake up a bit."
"You can't be seen very sleepy." she replied laughing "I know even though I haven't slept at all since yesterday." I replied "That means you had a good time." she affirmed and I nodded "I had a good time grandma, don't worry about it."
"Okay, I don't worry about it anymore, but now let's go inside before they come for you here." We enter the house and everyone stares at me. I don't really know what they look at so much, but I know we were talking about different things for a while until suddenly my mother stared at me and decided to ask what was going through her head.
"Hey Gabriela, can I ask you a question?" asked my mother "Sure, let it go since you've been with her for a while on your head." I replied, laughing "As far as I know you didn't take that jacket to the party, whose jacket is it if not yours?"
At that moment I look at my arms and I see she's right and it's at that moment I remember Alex had lent me his. I was still wearing Alex's jacket and I hadn't realized it, but it's clear my family had noticed and if they already thought I had something with him, which luckily, they don't know Alex was the guy who had hurt me a long time ago, I can't imagine what was going through her head now when she imagined the jacket wasn't mine and they supposed was his.
"Are you going to answer me or not?" she asked and I denied to clear everything in my mind "It's from a friend who lent it to me." I answered sincerely, because it was what it was "The same friend who brought you home, I guess. I can't deny his cologne smells good. You got better at choosing boys Gabriela."
"At no time did I say it was up to you to know, and second, can you leave me alone with it? A friend left it for me, period, you don't have to know everything about my life." My sister was going to answer and it's not I was angry with them, but I didn't want them to continue making assumptions about something it isn't true, something they didn't know, but luckily my phone began to ring.
When I look at the screen, I see it's Carlota and I decide it's better to answer than to continue listening to my sister's theories. "If you'll excuse me, I have to answer the call." I said and my sister rolled her eyes "I don't think it's that important."
"Well, yes, Maria is, and you know I'm not going to continue with your questions when it doesn't make any sense at all." I said irritably "They have everything, but you don't realize it." I walk out the door without answering her because it would be worse if I answered.
I stay as far away from the entrance as possible, but in a place where they couldn't see me and I could make sure they didn't hear, because I didn't want them to get in the way of my conversations, no matter how much Carlota knew was what they were doing some of my family, especially María, and if the subject of Alex came up, I didn't want them to find out or hear anything about him for the world because I'm not entirely sure what they would do.
