"I don't know. I think I just want to do stuff."
"Do stuff?" my mother repeated.
"Yeah. Like I want to travel places. Meet new people. Try out some hobbies. Spend a ton of money... if that's okay with you," I said while looking at my father. While drinking his water, he nodded slightly without even flinching at the mention of money.
"So you have no plans at the moment and just want to do whatever you feel like?" my mother asked.
"...Basically," I shamelessly answered.
"Then how about you do your mother a favor... if it sounds like something you wouldn't mind doing to pass the time."
"What?"
"You know your auntie? The one who bought your mother that necklace a few years ago."
"The ruby necklace?"
"Yeah. That one."
The auntie she was referring to wasn't a blood aunt but rather one of my mother's close friends. The two of them grew up together and remained close even decades later.
I had pretty good memories of that aunt although I barely saw her because I never liked sitting and listening to adult conversations when I was younger.
When she would come over and talk with my mother, I would go play video games in my room or hang out with my friends.
"What about her?" I asked.
"Well, her daughter is returning from America and the two of us were planning on taking a trip with her to Hawaii but we wondering if perhaps hanging out with two old ladies would be too boring. If someone her age like you accompanied us, perhaps she'd have more fun."
'So... she's coming home from America and the two of you decided to take her to Hawaii... one of the fifty states of America? Ha...'
I pondered for a second.
When I say that I had no plans, I truly didn't.
I was planning on just moving along to whatever waves would push me along and making decisions on the spot.
So it wasn't like her offer was clashing with anything in my schedule.
If anything, this was far better than what I was probably going to end up doing which is laying in bed all day while scrolling on social media.
"How long do you plan on being in Hawaii?" I questioned.
"Around two weeks. Plenty of time to explore everything there."
"Hmm," I pondered for a moment.
"If you go with your mother, I'll increase your allowance tenfold," my father said.
"Deal," I immediately responded.
My father looked at my mother and gave this cool nod while she looked at him with literal heart eyes.
'Why do I feel like these two are still teenagers at heart when it comes to each other?'
"I guess I'm tagging along on this trip. When's the flight?" I asked as I picked up a piece of steak with my fork.
"Tomorrow," she replied.
I stopped chewing and looked at my mother with an eyebrow raised. "Was that a joke?" I asked.
"Nope. Why? You have something planned tomorrow?"
"No. I just didn't expect it to be so soon," I answered.
"Don't worry about your PC. I'll have someone bring it over to your hotel room," my father said.
'He knows his son like the back of his hand.'
Indeed that was my worries. Although there were alternatives, I noticed that ever since I became Yasuo, my PC was the only belonging that I cared about.
It was a gift from his or rather, my late grandmother on my mother's side who passed away two years ago.
Although some of the specs were outdated, I never changed anything. I would even clean it every week or so whenever I felt like relaxing. It felt therapeutic for me as if my grandmother was there with me watching me clean it.
"Thank you."
I noticed in the corner of my eye that my mother was looking at my father as if he was a god. She was extremely grateful that he had already solved any issues or excuses that I might come up with not to come along.
I had a feeling that something was about to occur in their bedroom that night that I didn't want to talk about let alone imagine.
There were things better left unknown.
"So what's the name of this girl that I'm going to be entertaining?"
"Don't say it like you're working a job," my mother chuckled. "It's also a vacation trip for you. It's just that the two of you young adults can hang out while we old ladies can do our boring old lady activities without boring either of you."
She then answered my question, "Noguchi Minako."
