Capítulo 14: Estate

He had no need to lie about that; he lived alone. If there were family members in the house, he would have said it was a family home and that he was just returning, but it was just him and his ghost in the house.

"Money must be sweet," Shedrack said.

As they admired the house, David handed them over to the maids and manservants to show them their rooms. Since he planned to turn the place into a family home in the future, David had no intention of them staying long term; however, they could at least stay the night.

Ensuring they were settled, David left to get changed. The Nigerian sun wasn't exactly forgiving. It seemed as though the celestial body had some personal grudge against him; although his jacket seemed fine, he was completely soaked underneath.

After taking a shower and changing into more comfortable casual wear, David headed downstairs.

"Sir," a maid called out, stopping him on the staircase.

"Yes?" David answered.

"Mr. Obi stopped by earlier and asked me to give this to you," the maid said, handing over a brown file.

"Thank you," David replied, taking the file and walking toward his sitting room.

Relaxing in a chair, David opened the file to see what it was about. Inside was a sale agreement.

"He really did it?" David said, astonished as he went through the sale agreement.

It was from the owner of the abandoned estate he had inquired about; the agreement indicated that the man had accepted his offer.

Reaching into the file again, he pulled out other documents, including the land deed and more to confirm his new ownership of the land.

Seeing this, David began to laugh. It seemed things were progressing really well for him.

He didn't know that an account manager would be capable of arranging this, but it turned out he had been too naive; the World Bank had its means.

Among the documents was a plan for the estate and all the details he needed.

Going through it, he didn't understand much beyond the fact that it was around 90 hectares of land, which David found astonishing.

He had paid around $3 million to get the entire estate, and now, thinking about it, he knew it would cost a significant amount to develop the estate as he envisioned.

"What's that?" a voice asked, and David immediately looked up.

He saw his friend walking toward him in new clothes. It seemed the maids had bought them new clothes to change into.

"Nothing. Anyway, who wants to play a game?" David asked as he packed up the file and handed it over to a nearby guard.

"Please drop this off in my room," David instructed before leading his friends away.

"Where are we going?" one of his friends asked.

"To have the best gaming experience of our lives," David answered excitedly as he led them down the stairs to the place George had shown him.

It was meant to be a private theater located underground. It was an impressive space, but being who he was, David thought first about gaming on such a big screen.

As soon as they entered the room, the group was faced with a large screen, about three meters tall and more than five meters wide.

On a table before it was a set of gaming pads, neatly arranged in a row. Seeing them, David smiled in satisfaction.

With how his life had been over the last few days, he'd come to understand that most of his time would be spent doing very little. All he needed to do was give orders and someone else would handle it; hence, this room meant a lot to him.

"This is your game room?" Shedrack asked. He was the only other gaming enthusiast among them, apart from David himself.

"Bro, at this point, you've set yourself up to never touch grass again," Uchenna joked with a wide smile.

No matter what they said, though, they all took seats, each with a game pad in hand as they prepared to play.

David wasn't one to hold back. He'd bought multiple consoles, after all. He had the money, and his goal was to enjoy it.

"It's a private theater. I just added this to relieve boredom."

"Eh…rich boy, make sure you treat us well throughout this week," Gabriel said with a grin.

"No problem. We'll paint the town red in due time," David replied with a smile as they began gaming.

This had been their usual routine even before he became wealthy. They would return from school, eat if there was food, and then play games until they either fell asleep or it was morning.

The goal was simply to pass the time; they didn't exactly have active social lives. David, the only one with a manageable social life, had seen his destroyed long ago.

The evening passed not-so-quietly, with the group shouting and complaining about their games. Even some of the maids and manservants joined in as they played.

"This is going to affect me tomorrow," David groaned, adjusting his posture.

He didn't drink, so he was the only one fully sober among the bodies sprawled in the theater. Looking at the uniformed maids and manservants on the floor, David smiled.

They were human, after all.

It was almost impossible for a group of guys to watch others play a game without eventually wanting to participate. It was a given.

His friends who had initiated the drinking were lying between or on top of the chairs. He didn't plan to move them at all.

Let them pay for their poor choice to drink when the goal was only to play games.

After ensuring that all the ladies were lying comfortably and were covered, he left for his room.

The next morning, David woke up feeling more refreshed than he ever had. It felt as though he had been reborn.

"So, this is what being a morning person feels like," David said, looking at himself in the mirror.

He didn't know why or how, but he felt full of energy despite not having eaten the previous evening.
