Capítulo 1: Chapter 1: Punching the Wicked Mother-in-Law, Kicking the Eldest Brother-in-Law

Deep within the unending mountains, thick white mist shrouded many villages.

In the late autumn, the strong winds rustled the leaves of the deep mountain trees.

Louder than the rustling leaves was the half-humming, half-singing cry of a woman.

The crying echoed throughout the entire village, causing the busy villagers to stop their work and look towards the source of the sound.

It was the voice of the village's old widow, Fang Shi. Poor woman, she still hadn't recovered from the news of her son's death, even after three days.

Lin Ruanruan heard the hypocritical crying in her ears and felt as if she was being wrapped up by something, her head aching terribly. Besides the headache, there was also a hunger in her stomach that made her feel like her intestines were cramping.

Her habits from being an assassin kicked in, and she didn't rush to open her eyes, choosing instead to observe the situation quietly.

"Oh, my ten taels of silver, how could this jinx just die like this?" A woman's voice cried out, truly lamenting her lost ten taels of silver.

This was... her mother-in-law.

Damn it! She had crossed over right into a mess; this was indeed a melodramatic plot.

Lin Ruanruan took a deep breath and began to receive the memories from the original owner of this body.

Lin Ruanruan, who had been sold to be someone's wife at the age of fourteen due to poverty, had just received news three days ago that her husband, who had been taken as a conscript before they even consummated their marriage, had died.

At sixteen, she was now a widow.

Being a widow was one thing, but her wicked mother-in-law and elder brother-in-law were planning to sell her, a beautiful young woman, to a rich man in the town across the mountains to be a concubine.

The original owner refused and, in a fit of emotion, had run into the pillar at the entrance of their house, swearing that she would rather die as a ghost of the Fu family than live as someone else's woman.

Tsk tsk, foolish.

Lin Ruanruan pursed her lips and slowly opened her eyes, only to see darkness.

"Mother, stop crying," Fu Tian tugged at the wailing Fang Shi and said with a frown.

"How can I not cry? My ten taels of silver are gone. This jinx didn't bring a single good day to our family."

Fang Shi cried while holding the shabby straw mat that wrapped Lin Ruanruan, tears and snot running down her face.

If she didn't keep mentioning the ten taels of silver, people might actually believe she was crying for her poor daughter-in-law.

"Mother, hurry up and bury her, or she'll start to smell soon." Fu Tian tugged at Fang Shi again, impatiently.

The weather was scorching, and if a corpse was left in the house, once it started to smell, their shabby wooden house would be uninhabitable.

"This dead jinx, not only do we have to return the ten taels of silver, but now I have to dig a pit to bury her," Fang Shi cursed, wiped her face, and prepared to team up with her lame son Fu Tian to bury Lin Ruanruan.

Hearing that they were going to bury her, Lin Ruanruan, who had intended to observe quietly, no longer dared to pretend to be dead and immediately struggled.

"Ah, she's moving." Fang Shi, who was about to lift the straw mat, saw it move and quickly stepped back, screaming.

"Mother, what are you doing, getting scared over nothing. Hurry up and lift her so we can bury her." Fu Tian didn't see the mat move and thought his mother was being hysterical.

"She moved, she really moved," Fang Shi babbled, "Is she a zombie?"

Wrapped in the straw mat, Lin Ruanruan's mouth twitched: "You... you... you... you're... the... the zombie."

Great, her imposing words were completely ruined by her stutter and her childlike high-pitched voice.

Before she could lament internally, she tore through the straw mat. The effort made her head throb painfully.

It was the injury left from the original owner's collision with the pillar. The blood had already clotted, but it was still severely swollen.

Dressed in tattered clothes, Lin Ruanruan sat up from the mat, her eyes coldly scanning Fang Shi and Fu Tian. She knew she had to be strong now; otherwise, she wouldn't be able to survive in this household.

Fang Shi was so frightened by Lin Ruanruan's sudden revival that she turned pale and stepped back, trembling: "Why... why aren't you dead?"

Lin Ruanruan sneered: "You want to bury me? You'll have to wait a few more years!"

She stepped closer, and Fu Tian, intimidated by her presence, kept retreating: "What... what do you want to do?"

Lin Ruanruan said coldly: "I am no longer the Lin Ruanruan you can bully. From now on, I am the master of this house. Anyone who dares to touch me will regret being born!"

Fang Shi and Fu Tian exchanged glances, completely caught off guard by Lin Ruanruan's transformation. Fang Shi tried to argue but was silenced by Lin Ruanruan's retort: "If I die, how will you repay the ten taels of silver?"

This question left Fang Shi speechless, and Fu Tian did not dare to speak up. Lin Ruanruan snorted and went back to the dilapidated room, slamming the door shut.

Back in the room, Lin Ruanruan leaned against the door, feeling exhausted. She took a deep breath and resolved that since heaven had given her a second chance at life, she would not be bullied again. She would live a life worth living!

She began sorting through the original owner's memories and planning her next steps. Lin Ruanruan knew she needed to regain her strength quickly and find a way to escape this toxic environment. As night fell, she lay on the broken bed, thinking about her plans for tomorrow. No matter what, she had to find a way to survive and no longer be at the mercy of others.

Rising up, her face as pale as a dead person's showed not a hint of color, her whole body even more emaciated.

Startled by her sudden sitting up, Fang Shi and her son stumbled back two steps.

"Ghost!" the mother and son exclaimed in unison.

"You... you... you're the ghosts," Lin Ruanyuan rolled her eyes, slowly unwrapping the grass mat covering her.

To wrap a dead person in a tattered grass mat, the original owner really took a loss serving the Fu family for two years.

"Mother, she's not dead, not dead at all," Fu Tianyi was initially startled to see Lin Ruanyuan standing up, but the thought that if she wasn't dead, they could send her to the master's house and avoid repaying the ten silver coins struck him.

"Yeah, not dead. Quick, send a message to Master Ding's house. We'll send her over tomorrow."

Fang Shi also realized, tears and snot still on her face, smiling broadly without restraint.

Exactly, if Lin Ruanyuan was delivered as promised to Master Ding's house, those ten silver coins would completely belong to her.

Plus, with the compensation for her deceased second son and the widow's compensation for her eldest son who died two years ago, Fu Tianyi could finally find a new wife.

Fu Tianyi nodded, ready to run out and deliver the message to the Ding family. But just a few steps out, his already lame foot was suddenly tripped.

Standing with a lame foot was already strenuous, and being tripped like this made him lose his balance immediately and fall out.

"Ow." Fu Tianyi's face hit the ground, blood streaming from half his face where it scraped on the ground.

"Who... who... who's going to the Ding family, you... you go," Lin Ruanyuan hated this stuttering mouth, but she couldn't control herself to say a complete sentence.

She had wanted to send this lame man to Master Ding's house as a concubine, but with his tongue all tied up, he couldn't speak properly. The more he said, the less imposing he became, so she had to reluctantly give up on venting her anger at the scum.

"Hey, you jinx, what are you doing!" Fang Shi saw her son tripped by her and was suddenly furious, rushing up to tear Lin Ruanyuan apart.

Unfortunately, the present Lin Ruanyuan was no longer the daughter-in-law who could be beaten and scolded at will. In her previous life, Lin Ruanyuan was an A-grade killer, and even in an unfamiliar weak body, she would not allow such an old woman to hurt her.

Aiming at Lin Ruanyuan's face to scratch her, Fang Shi was slapped in the face before she could even touch her.

This slap almost used up all of Lin Ruanyuan's strength in her weak body, and Fang Shi was hit so hard that her head tilted.

Caught off guard, Fang Shi was stunned at first. After she regained her senses, she cried and screamed, "Heaven, this is outrageous. Daughter-in-law dares to hit mother-in-law."

Lin Ruanyuan watched her cry without expression, even feeling like laughing.

She went up and twisted her arm two more times. It was a crime to kill someone here, so she didn't want to go to jail. She could only use this method to vent her anger for the original owner who had been forced to death by them.

She was somewhat skillful with her hands, and the twisting made Fang Shi feel like she had been stung by a wasp, making her scream and cry out of control. Sometimes she cursed Lin Ruanyuan as a jinx and a witch, and sometimes she begged softly for mercy.

"A... a witch never... never goes easy." Lin Ruanyuan turned around and kicked the scum uncle hard, clapping her hands with satisfaction.
