These beings were highly intelligent, capable of wielding elemental powers, and could even control the Hilichurls.
It was said that the elemental power they used originated from the branches of the Ley Line Tree.
For reasons unknown, Abyss Mages could communicate with ordinary people and were also fluent in the clumsy language of the Hilichurls, enabling them to manipulate their minds.
Here, not far from a Hilichurl camp, was a cave.
Inside, a Cryo Abyss Mage stood amidst several Hilichurls that were busy digging around, seemingly searching for something. The Cryo Abyss Mage supervised their work.
Just then, a leisurely-floating Electro Abyss Mage approached.
"Hey! Still haven't found it?"
"Stop rushing me! Do you think I'll find it just because you keep pestering me?"
The Cryo Abyss Mage's tone was curt—understandable, given the dreariness of spending days in this dim place, overseeing a bunch of mindless beasts.
"I just want to remind you," the Electro Abyss Mage replied sternly, "we don't have much time left. Those people could find this place any moment. If we return empty-handed, it'll disappoint His Highness."
"But we don't even know if there's anything here, do we?" the Cryo Abyss Mage retorted impatiently. "Or perhaps... there's nothing here at all? We've wasted so much time and effort, and what have we found? Rocks! Nothing but rocks! Are we miners now?"
The Electro Abyss Mage fell silent, unable to argue.
Suddenly, the ground trembled violently.
Small stones and dust rained down from above, and several of the Hilichurls stumbled from the intense shaking.
"What's going on?"
"What's happening out there?"
Both Abyss Mages sensed the commotion outside. After exchanging a glance, they hurried toward the cave entrance.
Before they could reach it, a biting chill filled the air.
Abyss Mages always wore masks, so their facial expressions were hidden—assuming they even had faces under those masks.
Still, the weight of the Cryo Abyss Mage's mood could be felt in its voice, heavy with unease.
"Why is the Cryo elemental energy so dense? Could it be a Vision wielder?"
"Would a regular Vision wielder possess such power?"
As they emerged from the cave, they were greeted by a breathtaking sight.
A streak of icy blue shot across the sky, leaving behind a trail of shimmering frost that sparkled like a sea of stars.
The icy meteor struck the nearby Hilichurl camp. In a flash of white light, a Cryo explosion enveloped the entire area.
Boom!
The shockwave alone could have sent an ordinary person flying. The swirling wind carried icy shards so potent that, even from a considerable distance, a thin layer of frost formed on the Electro Abyss Mage's shield.
The Cryo Abyss Mage, however, was unharmed, thanks to its Cryo immunity.
"Hmm... looks about right."
Perched atop a towering tree, Kiichi stood with her long, snow-white hair flowing in the chilly breeze.
In her left hand, she held a longbow. Her sharp gaze remained fixed on the Hilichurl camp, which had now transformed into a glacial wasteland exuding a bone-piercing chill.
"Should I fire another arrow?"
Clearly, the icy meteor streak that had just pierced the heavens had been her doing.
Recently, while teaching Sara to use Electro elemental energy, Kiichi had also been exploring the potential of elemental powers herself.
As a spirit born of natural elements, she possessed an innate affinity for all elements—unlike Vision wielders, who could only command one.
The earlier attack had been an experiment. She had wanted to see if she could channel elemental power into an arrow, similar to Ganyu's combat style.
However, the resulting power far exceeded her expectations, surpassing Ganyu's game portrayal by a wide margin.
Well, it was just a game, after all. Many characters' in-game abilities fell short of their actual lore. It wasn't as if the Raiden Shogun would really lose to a slime.
Initially, Kiichi had considered using Pyro. But given that they were in a forest, she didn't want to risk starting a wildfire. After some thought, she settled on Cryo instead.
Still, as she drew her bow earlier, a man's voice inexplicably echoed in her mind.
"Hmm, it's about time. An unforeseen pincer maneuver... a difficult choice, but you understand, don't you?"
"To end it all with cold-blooded strategy, unleashing a pincer formation... Hmph. A necessary sacrifice."
It was as if a cold, calculating demon had placed a hand on her shoulder, whispering in her ear.
Even though the Hilichurls were no longer visible, Kiichi decided, just to be safe...
Or perhaps, truthfully, she simply couldn't resist. Unleashing another "nuclear arrow" was too satisfying, so she let one fly before spreading her wings and soaring over to the scene.
When she landed and took in the icy spectacle she had created, Kiichi fell silent.
"...Oh no. Where's the treasure chest?"
Everywhere she looked, there was nothing but ice and frost. The once-lively Hilichurl camp was now an unrecognizable glacial expanse.
Gone were the largest, most decorated tents—typically where the rarest treasure chests would be. All that remained was ice.
Kiichi sighed, rubbing her forehead in frustration.
"Swoosh!"
Suddenly, several sharp icicles whistled through the air, hurtling toward her.
Naturally, such an attack posed no threat to Kiichi. She didn't even move, yet the icicles shattered into a spray of frost before reaching her, scattering like a halo of stars around her.
Far from angered, Kiichi lowered her hand from her forehead, curiosity sparking as she turned her gaze toward the Cryo Abyss Mage in the distance.
"Such powerful elemental energy... Who are you, and what are you doing here?" the Cryo Abyss Mage demanded, its tone thick with caution.
Kiichi, however, simply stroked her chin, staring at the Abyss Mage... or more accurately, at its shield.
She was curious—was its shield really as unbreakable as it was in the game?
"You refuse to answer? Very well..."
Seeing her silence, the Cryo Abyss Mage shook its head and raised its staff, assuming a combat stance.
"I don't know who you are, but it seems you're alone. As a Cryo entity, you have no hope of breaking my shield. So, whoever you may be, you'll stay here forever, unable to interfere with our grand plans!"
At the phrase "you can't break my shield," Kiichi raised an eyebrow.
"Ohhhhhh~~~ really?"
