Capítulo 35: Dohnaseek and Kalawarner

My journey through the forest after my encounter with the blonde loli was unencumbered after that. I was a little disappointed at that, I had expected the exorcists that I vaguely remembered being a part of this arc in canon to be sent out to stop me. That wasn't the case however and while I did get the chance to conserve my energy, I was still disappointed.

The blonde loli had been underwhelming.

Tricking her had been very easy, laughably so and the silver blade Ingrid made cutting into her neck very easy. Something which would have been more difficult with a normal steel blade, if not impossible. For lower-tier Supernatural beings it was possible to kill them with normal weapons, just difficult according to Ingrid. However, beyond that, it required certain materials, blessings and enchantments and so on to prove effective against Supernatural beings.

The blade I currently had was simply a normal steel blade coated in silver to give it that edge against those I was currently facing. Nothing special and quite common in the Moonlight World. Which was probably why Ingrid gave it to me, if I lost it or it broke, then it wouldn't be a huge loss to her.

As a result of this lack of action though, I was able to fully conserve my energy and come straight up to the door of the church. The woman who had been on the roof was gone, and either that was a sign that all the Fallen Angels were gone, or they were all waiting inside.

I doubt my killing of the blonde loli was enough to spook them into running away. The Devils attacking the Church hadn't in canon if I remember correctly. So I was looking forward to the fight to come, this was the perfect opportunity to test myself against those that wouldn't hold back and didn't fight in the conventional way I was used to.

Could I adapt and emerge victorious or was this my limit?

That was something I needed to know right here and now because only by understanding my limits could I break past them. "Knock, knock," I said, lashing out with a front kick that smashed open one door of the church, something I always wanted to do. "Anybody home."

Lowering my leg, I stepped inside, hands still in my pocket as I instantly took note of the figure standing on the other side of the church by the altar. He was a big guy wearing a lot of dark clothing, that revealed little about his features. His hands, much like mine were stuffed in his pocket and honestly, he looked like a bit of an edge lord.

A hard pass from me.

I've done actions befitting of an edge lord, I'm very much aware of that, but looking like one? That's too far, even for me, eugh, I do not like the feeling that thought gives me. "So, are you a Fallen Angel as well?" Silence. "Not much of a talker I see, shame. I do like talking with my enemies, though they all don't seem to share the same sentiment. I wonder why."

Noticing movement from my side, I ducked down, one hand bracing against the floor to avoid the thrust. The spear of light pierced through the air that my torso had once inhabited, illuminating the magnificent pair of breasts and the beautiful face of the woman who wielded said spear.

"Hello there." Pushing up off my hand, I struck her exposed side with a roundhouse kick, throwing her out of the way as I spun back onto my feet. "Not a very churchly greeting. And here all I came to do was repent for my sins."

"Your attack failed, Kalawarner." The man muttered, moving forwards as the now named Kalawarner brushed off her clothes, rising to her feet. Now that I got a good look at her, she really was beautiful, much like Raynare. Honestly, it was such a shame they were fodder characters, a waste of beauty really. "We do this my way."

"We have to make it quick, Dohnaseek," Kalawarner replied with a frown, studying me closely. "We've already made enemies of the Devil's, but they won't be able to do anything until they get permission from the Church to remove us."

You know, I was beginning to get the feeling I was being ignored. But why would Devil's need permission from the Church to get rid of them? They're Devils and this is their, well, shared territory with Rin and Saeko. Surely they could just remove the Fallen from the...Church. Ah, that made a little more sense, this was technically Holy Ground and I guess the Church and the Angels would get a little pissy about the Devils just coming onto it, even if it is abandoned.

But wait, if I was remembering the canon storyline properly, I don't remember anything like that happening? Oh well, I guess I'll just have to ask a few questions when all this is over with.

"I know." Dohnaeseek frustratedly retorted, wings sprouting from his back and with one flap, rose into the air. He then spread his arms out, two spears of light forming in hands that he grasped hold of.

It was a little dramatic really.

Like seriously, he could have done the same thing while standing on the ground.

This was just been dramatic for dramatic sake.

Though full disclosure, if I was in his position, I would have probably done the same thing.

"Die!" That exclamation of what he wanted me to do though, is something I would have not have done. It was far too lazy and boorish for my tastes.

The spears themselves were fast, faster than a bullet and I just barely avoided them. I moved to stand sideways on, the spears passing by me on either side, though I did feel it graze the skin of my chest and back as they flew past, burying into the ground before dissipating.

"Fuck sake," I muttered angrily, looking down at my shirt, the cut now running across its front and another one I imagined on the back. "Are you fucking kidding me?" I really should have thought it through more as to what I was wearing, this was a nice shirt and now it was ruined. "I was already going to kill you, but now-"

Once again though, two more spears came flying towards me, I just barely avoiding them. However, this incident focused my mind back on the main problem. The spears were dangerous, their speed was faster than a speeding bullet. I could react to a bullet, but these spears, I was struggling with them.

So how does one dodge something coming at them faster than their eyes can react, that's simple. You don't try and see them, you instead focus upon the person firing them. Humans are predictable, no matter how fast they are, there's always a tell and their eyes are often the most telling features of a person.

The thing is, it's not always easy to tell.

Guns were revolutionary, but it was easy to tell where they were going to fire based on where the gun was aiming and where the eyes of the holder were locked onto. It was hard though, to judge where they were aiming when you were the one staring down the edge of the barrel.

The emotions and fear you felt as you stared down into the barrel of the gun, knowing a tiny piece of metal was going to be fired at you at high speeds. That alone was enough to make it impossible for people to think straight. Then there was the matter of trying to quickly and correctly tell where the gun was aiming and track the trajectory to your body before the trigger was pulled. On top of that, then preemptively moving at just the right time.

Move too late and you're dead.

Move too soon and you're dead.

It's finding that sweet spot.

Right now, even though I could barely track the movement of the light spears, my focus was upon the wielder, Dohnaseek. I focused upon his eyes and his hands, trying to figure out exactly where he was aiming for and trying to find that perfect time to make my move. Not too late and not too soon, and after a few rounds of duel spears being thrown my way, I found it.

My shirt had numerous cuts upon it now, my chest possessing numerous cuts, nothing more than light grazes. But I had finally found it, the light spears thrown by Dohnaseek couldn't touch me now and I proved it.

The next two spears, I dodged with such ease that it almost appeared lazy. One was a headshot, another aimed for my chest. All I did was simply pull off a Neo Matrix dodge, though admittedly, it would need a little work. I didn't have bullet time, but I didn't need that for this as I watched the light spears pass by overhead.

Of course, leaning down below waist height is not a very easy thing to do, let alone coming back up. So I fell back purposefully, flipping myself back up onto my feet and staring out at the two Fallen Angels with a smirk.

"So, what's next in your bag of tricks?" I was going to make them reveal everything they had and I wasn't going to finish this off until I had a satisfying answer for everything they could throw at me. This to me was a game and I was going to grind as hard as I could until I levelled up to a point I could breeze through these mobs.
