You know that one saying?
Life is like a roller coaster.
It has its up and downs.
Its high and its lows.
And everything else in between.
I think everyone has heard that saying at least once in their lives. I know I certainly have.
And honestly I agree with the saying.
Life is like a roller coaster.
Because one minute you are totally fine and then in the next aren't.
Just like one.
One minute I was fine, and then I wasn't.
Put simply I died.
Yep. You heard me right.
I died. Finished. Finito. Ending up sleeping with the fishes. Met the Grim Reaper from Family Guy. There are many more ways I can actually tell you but I know. I think I've made my point very clear.
Death took me.
But that wasn't the end for me.
No, it was only the beginning.
Let me tell you all about it.
My second chance.
--------------------------------------
To begin with I was no one special.
My name was Darius.
I was just an ordinary everyday 21 year old college student.
I came from a normal family with loving parents and a younger brother. I had a few close friends, and I also had a few girlfriends in my life as well.
My hobbies included reading mystery novels, going to the movies, and also involving myself in pretty much everything related to games, manga, and anime.
Yes, I was in fact a nerd or otaku before I died.
Now then onto my death itself.
My headphones in I held up my phone in front of my face as I re-watched the fight between Gon and Hisoka at Heaven's Arena for the thousandth time.
Hunter x Hunter has always been one of my favorite series.
The characters, the battles, not to mention nen.
All of that and more drew me into the world of Hunter x Hunter and made me a diehard fan.
To bad the series will never be finished due to the author's health issues.
Really, it's a damn shame.
Especially when the story was just about to start focusing on the Dark Continent and all the mysteries it held.
But again, due to the author's chronic pain we will probably never get to see the ending of the Hunter x Hunter series.
Anyhow.
I was on my way back to my dorms from my girlfriends place, having just finished a round of cosplay sex.
Her idea not mine, but I didn't complain one bit when she decided we should do it like that.
No person of culture would.
Continuing to walk down the street I got to the intersection and the crosswalk.
Just as I did so the video of the Gon and Hisoka match got to the part where Hisoka started creaming in his fucking pants when Gon charged at him.
Seeing that I got a shiver down my spine.
Which happens every time I watch that part of the video.
Since it clearly shows just how much a pedo Hisoka really is.
No wonder he dressed up like a clown.
If you get my meaning.
The point is I would never want to end up meeting him alone in a dark alley.
No siree.
The video continued to play.
As it did so the light for me to use the crosswalk turned green.
Seeing this out of the corner of my eye I started making my way across the street.
Then just when I was halfway across I heard a sound.
*Beep Beep*
Hearing that sound stopped me in my tracks.
Taking off my headphones after I heard it I immediately started looking around for the source of the sound. But I didn't see anything.
Until it was too late that is.
A few moments after I heard the sound I saw a pair of light heading towards me from my left.
Turning my head in that direction I ended up seeing a giant red and blue semi-truck barreling straight towards me.
I got ready to move. But before I could it was all already over.
The truck slammed into me, and then I immediately blacked out.
-------------------------------
"Agh!" I shouted.
My eyes shooting open I looked around.
Seeing as I just got hit by a big-ass semi-truck after all.
As my eyes darted around the area I realized I was no longer outside and on the crosswalk. No I am in an entirely different place.
Currently I am floating in a white space with nothing in any direction I look.
Except for more white space.
"What the fuck?" I said.
"Be calm my child." A male voice suddenly spoke up.
Right after it did so a giant ball of light appeared in the air right above me. Turning my eyes to it I figured only one thing could've happened to me.
"I died, didn't ?" I asked the orb of light. Who I am assuming is God, or whatever runs the universe itself.
As to why I know I'm probably dead I've ready to many isekai and reincarnation light novels and fanfictions on webnovel to not know the cliché situation I am in right now.
Hit by truck-kun, in a completely white space with a giant ball of light speaking to me.
If this isn't a perfect setup with details from the reincarnation/isekai genre then I don't know what would be.
"You did." The ball of light told me.
"I see." I said. "So, what's going to happen next?"
"You're awfully calm about all this." The orb said.
"Well there's nothing I can do about it right?" I said. "I am dead and there is no going back. Yelling at you probably won't change anything, so it's better just to keep things rolling. Unless this is all a dream and there is a chance of me waking in a hospital bed?"
"There's not." The orb immediately shot down.
"And there you have it." I said. "So, what's next?"
"You are getting reincarnated." The orb told me.
"You're not joking right?" I asked the orb.
As I did so I can't help but feel it's giving me a deadpan expression right now. Despite it not having any sort of body at all.
"Hey, I was serious with my question just now. This is all a bit crazy you know." I told the orb.
"I know. Believe me you're not the first to say that." The orb told me.
"So there have been other people reincarnated before me?" I questioned the orb.
"Yes." It answered. "But you will never meet any of them. Now then, let's get started."
"Ok then." I said.
"Great. So then there is stuff called karma points that every being in the world has. If you do good the points go up, and if you do bad they go down. You have a high number of karma points so because of that your reincarnation is going to go a little smoother than most." The orb explained to me.
"Wait? Why do I have high karma points?" I asked the orb. "Just curious is all."
"There was that time you ran out into traffic and saved that little girl from getting hit by that car. Breaking your leg in the process." The orb told me. "That netted you a huge amount of karma points. Enough for almost two lifetimes."
"Thanks for telling me." I told the orb.
"No problem. It's one of the reasons I am here for this process." The orb explained to me. "Now then let's get this done. You will retain the memories from your previous life as all reincarnators do. You do not get to choose the world you are reincarnated into, or what time period of that world you will be sent to. After you reincarnate what you do is entirely up to you. Be evil, be a hero I don't really care. You're just going to end up seeing me again anyway. Where that takes only a week or many years is entirely up to you. So that about covers things. Do you understand things as I have explained them to you?"
"Yes." I said. "You were very clear and straightforward. Thank you."
"Again, that's why I'm here." The orb told me. "Now off you go." It said.
A second after the orb spoke I was engulfed in a pillar of light and my soul ended up in its way to my new world.
Where I would begin my second life.
Like I said, I understand what they mean when they say life is a roller coaster now.
I really do.
