Capítulo 28: Gryffindor vs Slytherin (I)

~4th of November, 1991.~

The weather was perfect today; the skies were clear and the sun shone brightly, enveloping everything below it with endless warmth. It was simply the ideal day to be outdoors. Thus, it shouldn't come as a surprise to see every single wizard or witch, be it student or professor, present at Hogwarts on the quidditch field, seated in their respective stands.

Normally, this would be a rare occurrence since there was hardly any occasion that could cause such a phenomenon. However, today was an exception…. an extremely rare one at that.

Today, the three youngest quidditch players Hogwarts had seen in a hundred years were playing in the same game, a game featuring the greatest rivalry in the history of Hogwarts…

In a stand decorated with green and silver checkered decorations, two girls could be seen standing beside each other. One of them, who possessed iridescent emerald eyes, was gawking in a specific direction intensely, as if hoodwinked.

The girl was fiddling with her hair and smiling subconsciously as she gazed in that specific direction

'Goodluck Gavin.' she thought as she blushed slightly and continued to stare at the devilishly handsome blue eyed young boy.

Yes, our dear Estelle was currently experiencing what young girls do upon reaching the age range of 10-13:

Her first crush.

Though, she didn't know it yet. She didn't understand this warm, fuzzy feeling she felt every time she looked at him. All she knew was that she simply wanted to always be around him. To hear him talk, to see him smile, to see him do…well, everything.

For someone like her whose life had always been shrouded in a thick cloud of obscurity and darkness, Gavin was akin to a ray of radiant light, light that pierced her thick cloud of desolation and scintillated it, showing her how it feels to live like a normal kid, surrounded by friends who actually cared about her.

Thus, one could argue that as soon as she acquiesced to Gavin's offer during the sorting ceremony, her fate was sealed. However, whether this is a good thing or not, is yet to be seen….

Estelle's staring was interrupted by the dirty blonde haired girl who was seated beside her,

"Who do you think is going to win?" the girl asked, turning to face her.

Estelle raised her eyebrows,

"Isn't it obvious? Gryffindor can't win. Not when Slytherin has Gavin on their team." She replied, as-a-matter-of-factly.

"I don't know about that Estelle. Gryffindor's team is absolutely stacked. They've got Potter and Gavin's brother…Gavin's brother literally benched Oliver wood! Prefect Gemma said Wood was a cracking keeper so for him to get benched for a third year only means that he's better and I haven't even mentioned the Weasley twins or their chasers…" Daphne said worriedly.

Estelle laughed hearing her,

"Yeah they have a stacked team but I still don't think they've got a chance." She said casually.

Daphne frowned,

"How?" she asked, not understanding how Estelle could possibly think that Slytherin could actually win, when Gryffindor's team was pretty much star studded.

'Because he's there.' Estelle thought, smiling and looking back at Gavin, which caused that weird and foreign fuzzy feeling to appear once more.

"I just have a feeling we will. Bran and Gavin are excellent chasers you know. People flock to the quidditch field whenever they practice just to see them play." She said, somewhat confidently.

"Well…let's hope you're right." Daphne replied.

Estelle just hummed at that and continued where she left off, gazing fondly at the brown haired boy dressed in Slytherin quidditch robes, and holding a broom.

***

'I'm actually playing quidditch at Hogwarts. This is crazy!!' Gavin thought as he sat on his broom and gazed at the roaring crowd before him.

Honestly, it felt too surreal for him, even though he had already come to terms with the fact that he was now living in this mystical world. Who would have thought that he, a former parapelgic, would be here playing in one of the most anticipated quidditch matches of the century.

'This atmosphere…this hype…this is it.' he continued to think as he grinned visibly and waved to the spectators, earning another round of booming cheers from the stands, especially the Slytherin stand.

Beside him, Brandon was also grinning and waving at the crowd, taking in the energetic atmosphere. He turned to face Gavin who was still waving and asked,

"Are we still going as planned?"

Gavin turned to face him and nodded with a smirk on his handsome face.

"Yeah, let's win this game with a bang." he replied.

He then turned to look at the Gryffindor players, particularly Harry and Cass; Gavin flashed a smile at Harry and nodded at Cass, who was all smiles.

At that moment, Madam Hooch appeared and walked down to the center of the field, where the trunk containing the balls for the game was locked.

"Now I want a nice clean game…" She started in a loud voice, gazing at all the players.

She then looked towards the Slytherin players intently, before adding,

"From all of you…"

Madam Hooch then kicked the trunk lightly, which then opened and released the bludgers as well as the snitch, which looked the same as it did in the movies: golden with intricate engravings and fluttering wings.

After the bludgers and snitch flew off, she then grabbed the quaffle and threw it in the air, commencing the game.

As soon as the quaffle left Madam Hooch's hands Gavin's mind started to rapidly revolve, quickly noting the positions of all the players and calculating the optimal route to the hoops.

Because he was using a standard broom, Gavin knew that if he wanted to win this game, his timing, spatial awareness, vision and flying skills needed to be on point. He couldn't rely on using magical energy fluctuations to sense the players because of the pace of the game, and his limited sensing range so he was going to rely on pure skill.

Thus, with his enhanced reflexes due to bonding with Aelia, Gavin urged his broom quicker than anyone else as soon as the quaffle started to fall down and took off, grabbing the quaffle before the other players could move, which shocked them. Though, they immediately calmed down and flew towards him, the Slytherins intending to assist him while the Gryffindors were aiming to win possession.

Seeing this, Gavin hugged his broom and crouched closer to it, drastically increasing his speed as well as the distance between him and the other players.

As he neared the hoops he saw Cass just hovering in front of the hoops and staring back at him lazily, as if saying 'Score against me if you can' mockingly.

Gavin just smirked seeing this. He had never planned on challenging his brother one-on-one because he knew it would simply be futile and a waste of time.

Cass also had enhanced reflexes and was riding the Nimbus 2000 so he would easily block any normal shot he took.

Gavin pulled up and started flying towards the sky and away from the hoops, confusing the other players and spectators, with the only exception being Brandon.

As soon as Brandon saw Gavin flying upwards, he signaled Marcus Flint, the last Slytherin chaser to peel off from the crowd of players they were currently in and draw the attention of the Gryffindor chasers.

Marcus grunted and flew out of the pack towards the right hoop, which caused Gryffindor chasers Katie Bell, and Alicia Spinnet to chase after him, thinking he was the bigger threat and that Gavin would pass the quaffle to him.

Brandon then flew upwards towards Gavin with Angelina Johnson, the last Gryffindor chaser on his tail.

As soon as Brandon got to a specific height, Gavin immediately changed directions back downwards by twirling his broom skillfully and threw the quaffle to Brandon, completing a Porskoff play.

Gavin then unleashed his flames from the soles of his feet and accelerated rapidly towards the hoops, narrowly dodging the bludgers the Weasley twins sent for his head.

Brandon saw this and proceeded to hit the quaffle into Gavin's trajectory with the bristles of his broom. It required extreme skill and precision, which was not easy to do, especially with another chaser on your tail.

As soon as Gavin saw the ball heading towards him, he increased the intensity of his flames, intending to accelerate even more so he could strike the quaffle with tremendous power and speed.

Gavin smacked the quaffle using the bristles of his broom as soon as it appeared in front of him.

The quaffle made a 'BOOM' sound, traveled at breakneck speed and eventually passed through the left hoop, stunning everyone on the field. Cass didn't even get as chance to react as all he heard was the violent howling of the wind as the ball blitzed through his hoop.

It was only when the commentator, Lee Jordan shouted that everyone was awoken from their state of awe at the legendary play.

"WHAT AN INGENIOUS PLAY! GAVIN EVERHART SCORES 10 POINTS FOR SLYTHERIN!"
