Capítulo 20: Earplugs
"You know, I always knew you and K would end up together", my mother exclaims. Catherine and I are at my parents house today, which wasn't my idea by the way. But like I said, I can't really say no to her.
Yesterday. ...
"What do you mean you want to meet my parents. It's not like you don't know them, and they don't know you", I ask Catherine with a fit.
"Yes. But they only know me as your friend, and not your potential girlfriend, she says. "What's the difference", I ask her. Catherine folds her arms, staring me down and exclaiming, "really K! Really".
Today. ..
And that's how we ended up here in this kitchen today.
"Who would have thunk it hey", Catherine says with a smile. "Well you guys were bound to get together, unless K had messed it up", my Dad adds from a distance still watching TV. "Thanks Dad for the vote of confidence", I yell back at him. "I'm still proud of you son", he yells back.
"Yeah who isn't now", I think to myself.
"So are you guys looking at getting married soon", my mom asks Catherine and I. "Gees Ma! We just started dating, slow it down", I tell her. "Yeah but still, you can't be wasting this wonderful girls time can you now", she asks me. "And you were never one to commit", my mother states.
"Aww thank you Ma", Catherine says.
"Yeah well you were always one to be too forward for her own good", I think to myself. "You should ask TK to be your best man", my Dad adds on again. "Yeah, how's that going. You and TK", my mom asks me.
The other day. ...
I'm walking to the shops and happen to notice TK across the street. I wave at him, but he lift his fists and gives me two middle fingers.
"Uhm it's still rocky", I tell my mom. "Well don't give up hope so soon", my mother tells me. "Yep", I reply. "So when do you plan on going back to the bigger side of the world dear", my mom asks me. "I don't really know, I'm still debating about it. And when have you ever called me dear", I ask my mother. "Well I can't be calling you baby when you have a girlfriend now. That's her duty now", she states.
Catherine starts giggling.
"Well if you're going to stay here, the least you can do is find something to keep you occupied than rather spending your time wasting away. Maybe invest in something like you did that side", my mom says.
"That's what I keep telling him Ma", Catherine tells my mother. She continues on saying, "and I also keep telling him to at least buy or rent a house instead of living in a hotel".
"Exactly", my mom explains, "this is why I like you so much. You think ahead for my son, which he clearly can't do for himself. I mean honestly K, you can't expect to raise a family in a hotel room", she says while looking my way. "Amen", Catherine exclaims.
They keep at it, telling me what I should and shouldn't do, soon after agreeing with each other.
I hold my head thinking to myself, "One, I already have a house which I payed for in full. Two, I can't invest in anything because I'm not even good at that sort of thing because I'm not a freaking business investor. Hence why I'm wasting away here.
Three, I think way ahead of all your heads combined, that I even knew ALL OF THIS was going to happen. So I even considered buying earplugs, but I'm not rude like that".
"Are you even listening to us", my mother yells at me. "Listen to the women in your life K. Trust me on this", my Dad yells out. "Exactly! See your father knows these things and. ..", my mother continues on lecturing me. Soon after Catherine joins in.
In the back of my head I think to myself, "I should have bought those earplugs".
