Capítulo 30: Hypothesising

"Kevin, you fly amazingly. I think they should make you a seeker!" After a training session, the young wizards were returning to the castle, and Anthony Goldstein, who had been watching, was quite displeased.

"Were you paying attention to Gwen or the snitch? Do you like her?" Terry Boot chimed in from the other side.

"Well, Gwen is indeed beautiful, but how can she compare to our senior, Cirilla?" Kevin shrugged and asked.

"Of course, Cirilla is superior in appearance. I don't think anyone in all of Ravenclaw can surpass Cirilla," Terry Boot replied without hesitation.

"Yeah, I think so too," Kevin said, hugging himself. He added in a low voice, "So you see, Cirilla and I are in what positions?"

"You and Cirilla are both Seekers. Oh, I get it!" Terry Boot suddenly realised this, and his gaze at Kevin turned surprised.

"Those who are near the water are the first to get the moon. You truly live up to it, Kevin!"

Anthony gave Kevin's shoulder a hearty pat.

"Not only are you good at studying and Quidditch, but your skills in dating are also top-notch. You're really something, my roommate," Stephen said in a whimsical tone.

Kevin shook his head, ignoring his classmates who had dirty minds. However, after two months of practise, Kevin's flying skills and Quidditch techniques continued to improve. His coordination with Cirilla on the pitch became perfect. The young wizards who witnessed their training believed that with them on the team, Ravenclaw was sure to win the Quidditch Cup this year.

In the process, Kevin and Cirilla's relationship grew closer. At this rate, it wouldn't be long before they could be completely honest with each other. Suddenly, Kevin seemed to remember something and asked, "By the way, is tomorrow Halloween?"

Stephen nodded slightly. "Yes, today is the eve of Halloween. I heard there's going to be a rich Halloween feast at school." Terry, who was on the side, quickly chimed in, "I heard from a'reliable' source that this year, Dumbledore has invited a famous skeleton dance troupe to perform!"

"Halloween..." Kevin nodded.

Halloween, the eve of All Saints' Day, is a traditional Western holiday. The celebration usually happens in the evening, where children dress up in costumes, wear masks, and go door-to-door collecting candies, among other things. It's essentially a Western festival, but in the world of Harry Potter, every Halloween is an important day. Not because of the Halloween feast on the eve, but because something usually happens at Hogwarts around this time.

For instance, this year, will the original monster from the books make an appearance? Kevin was excited just thinking about it. He had never seen a real troll before. It was said that they were large humanoid creatures with tremendous strength but very low intelligence. Regular spells had a hard time affecting them due to their strong magical resistance.

Trolls were known for their violence and often attacked without reason, making them a dangerous creature for wizards. But Kevin was interested in meeting one. For that reason, he had some preparations. Since magic had a hard time directly affecting trolls, he thought, Why not try indirect damage with magic? For instance, creating elemental spells with magic and using these elemental spells to harm the giants—in other words, elemental magic

This kind of spell wasn't well developed in the world of Harry Potter, apart from the most basic spells like "Incendio" and "Glacius." The only powerful one, "Fiendfyre," relied on the characteristic of black magic that burned everything, not the inherent power of elemental magic.

Conveniently, during these two months, Professor Flitwick taught the spell [Elemental Burst]. Kevin quickly understood it and used it as a basis to start researching elemental spells. Up to this day, he had made some progress. After [Elemental Burst], in order to understand the basics for attack and defence spells, Kevin also learned the armour charm and the disarming charm. Using these as the base and combining them with [Elemental Burst], he created 2nd circle spells like [Searing Beam] and 3rd circle spells like [Fireball], among other elemental spells. Later, he used the same method with [Glacius] as a basis and researched 0th circle spells like [Icy Beam], 1st circle spells like [Frost Arrow], 2nd circle spells like [Frost Armor], and 3rd circle spells like [Frost Nova] and so on. In the process of researching, he also gained insight into the specialization of meta magic.

In two months, Kevin's attributes for strength, constitution, and agility have increased by 1. Although they haven't reached the human average of 10 points, they have exceeded most people of his age. According to his analysis, this was probably because his body was naturally in a growth phase. He repeatedly used attribute enhancement spells on himself, causing his body to adapt to the state it would reach after growth, thereby maturing ahead of schedule.

Kevin was aware that this growth meant acquiring the strength he would normally gain as he matured, at most reaching the level he would have as an adult, after which his attributes wouldn't increase further. To break through these limits, he would need permanent attribute elixirs.

Additionally, Kevin's Intelligence attribute increased by 2, a result of reaching level 4 in the wizarding profession. Up to level 20 as a legendary wizard, for every four levels advanced in the profession, related attributes would increase by 2 points.

Based on Kevin's observations during this time, he deduced two methods for advancing in the wizarding profession. The first was the natural growth due to age. Unlike the arcane magic system where mages were different, in the world of Harry Potter, wizards could be considered a combination of mages and sorcerers. They were like sorcerers, as their spellcasting ability came entirely from their bloodline's strength, requiring no additional preparation before casting. They were also like mages, able to learn more spells through study. In other words, they combined the strengths of both mages and sorcerers.

Since they had the strengths of both, wizards would naturally become stronger as they matured, much like sorcerers. According to Kevin's observations, all new students started at level 1 as wizards. But after joining Hogwarts, their level of growth depended entirely on personal talent and effort. Some young wizards reached level 3 as second-years, while others still hovered at level 3 as fifth-years.

In comparison, the wizarding level exams for O.W.L. in the fifth year and N.E.W.T. in the seventh year better represented their professional level. Young wizards needed to reach at least level 4 to barely pass the OWL, and outstanding students could even reach level 6. To pass the N.E.W.T., they needed to be at least level 5, and wizards who consistently scored "Outstanding" in N.E.W.T. exams usually had a wizarding level of at least level 8.

Of course, these were general guidelines and didn't include those who were "outside the norm." For example, in the original story, the trio's actual combat abilities far exceeded their exam scores. Also, Snape and Voldemort were exceptional; one opened the Chamber of Secrets and created Horcruxes in his fifth year, while the other invented a series of dark magic spells.

Their magical levels far exceeded those of some professors. The proud Aurors from the Ministry of Magic were probably at levels 11 to 15. As for the professors at Hogwarts, their differences in levels were quite significant. Professors like Professor Trelawney for Divination and Madam Hooch for Flying class had wizarding levels of not even 10.

On the other hand, experts like Professor McGonagall, Professor Flitwick, and Snape had levels comfortably exceeding 15. With Kevin's current abilities, he couldn't accurately determine their specific levels.

As for Dumbledore, it was certain he was a legendary level 20 wizard. Kevin estimated that in the current magical world, apart from unkown wizards in other countries, only Grindelwald, Dumbledore, and Voldemort had reached level 20.
