Capítulo 42: Chapter 42: Good Friends

"Well ...," Murphy gently nodded his head, "Jim, you have a great idea, you are a very dedicated actor."

This was said with such affection that it seemed to be from the bottom of his heart, the smile on James Franco's face deepened, from the beginning of the rehearsal, he realized that Murphy not only knew how to get along with Carey Mulligan, but also managed to make the other party surround him everywhere.

Not to mention anything else, he was really somewhat impressed by that alone.

He had used a lot of ingratiating tactics during the rehearsals and the filming of Mittens Café, and not only had his relationship with Carey Mulligan not gotten any closer, but it had a tendency to become even worse.

If it were anyone else, he would have given up, but the playful short blonde locks, the delicate and cute face, the innocent smile, and the rebelliousness that flowed out from time to time all tugged at the heartstrings one at a time and left him wanting more.

The unavailability, especially of the type that can only be seen but not approached, are strongly suggesting to him that this is the best.

Using Carey Mulligan to hook up with James Franco was Murphy's previous plan, but those plans naturally had to be pushed back when the other man signed a paper contract.

"Actually, Carey is still very good to get along with." With the most sincere attitude and tone, Murphy said bullshit that he himself didn't believe, "I treat Carey sincerely, and she certainly treats me the same way."

Hearing that, James Franco wanted to roll his eyes and cut deep into Murphy's honest face to see what was hidden underneath.

"Thank you." James Franco stood up, mouthing off, "I know what to do."

He glanced at the bottle of Chivas on top of the coffee table, a feeling called heartache instantly coursing through his body, but forced himself to hold it back, and was just about to excuse himself and leave when the door to his room was once again snapped from outside.

  "Come in." Murphy said.

The door to the room opened, and first a small, cute doll face came through the doorway, a crooked smile hanging above her bright eyes, but the smile instantly disappeared when she swept over to James Franco.

Carey Mulligan pushes open the door to her room and walks in, completely ignoring James Franco and greeting Murphy, "Hi, good evening."

Murphy returned the cordial smile, "Make yourself at home, Carey."

"Hello, Carey." Waiting for Carey Mulligan to sit down in one of the chairs, James Franco offered a greeting, "Still up this late?"

Although naive and lacking social experience, Carey Mulligan was very smart, coupled with Murphy's untraceable reminder, more or less able to see some of James Franco's mind, her dislike for him had long since risen from the previous mouth to a psychological level, merely nodding her head over there, faintly saying, "Hello, James."

If it wasn't for Murphy's influence, I'm afraid that someone with outward emotions like her wouldn't even say hello.

Carey Mulligan glanced at James Franco, and her mind unconsciously turned to Hayley and Jeff in the script, and her pair of soulful eyes immediately boned up.

"Kerry ...," Murphy coughed lightly, "something wrong?"

"Ah ... there is." Carey Mulligan rushed back to his senses and looked at James Franco again, purposely aggravating his tone, "About the governess, I want to talk to you alone."

Murphy turned his head to look at James Franco, James Franco is not an insensitive person, moreover, he knows that it takes a long time to realize his goal, now he can't aggravate Carey Mulligan's antipathy, and hurriedly said, "It's getting late, and I have to go back to read the script."

After saying that, there was no need for Murphy to send him off, he directly walked over and pulled open the door of the room and left.

When the door of the room that was pulled open was closed, Carey Mulligan immediately threw off the smelly face she had just made, blinking her innocent and bright eyes, "Bill said that you prepared a tutor for me, is that true?"

Murphy nodded gently, Carey Mulligan's face immediately collapsed, standing up from her chair, almost jumping to the heel of the sofa next to Murphy, sitting on it, pouting and looking over, "I don't want a governess, Murphy, I really don't!"

"I'm sorry ...," Murphy shook his head slowly, "Carey, it's not something I can control."

Carey Mulligan tried to say something else and Murphy held up his hand, "Honey, listen to me, I don't want a stereotypical governess that will tie you down as a free bird either."

"I knew it was, you're the best for me." Carey Mulligan said, still slightly aggravated, "Please!"

A layer of fog hung inside her bright eyes, and the words came out soft and woolly; whenever she used such a tone in the past, the person across from her would always oblige ...

"I can't do it, Kerry." Murphy looked her in the eye, "You're under sixteen, protected by the Children's Society, and it's their hard and fast rule that the crew assigns you a governess."

"These people are so annoying!" Carey Mulligan said hatefully, "It's not like I need their protection!"

"Carey, don't say such silly things." Murphy's words seemed unusually kind, "Honey, don't forget that you're not yet an adult."

Carey Mulligan lowered her head, not sure what she was thinking.

Murphy knew how to deal with her, "You wouldn't want the Children's Guild and the Screen Actors Guild to come after the cast and crew and make it impossible for our project to continue, would you?"

"Of course I don't want to." Carey Mulligan looked up slightly, "This is my first official role and I don't want to fail."

"It's also my first movie." Murphy followed her words, "All of my fortune is invested in it, and if the project breaks down, I'm going to go bankrupt and become a bum. As my good friend, would you like to see that happen?"

"No, never!" Carey Mulligan hurriedly shook her head, reaching out a small hand and pressing Murphy's arm, "We're best friends, I would never let that happen."

She looked up and seemed to have it all figured out, "Murph, you made my dreams come true. I could put up with the most stereotypical and eccentric governess for you."

Murphy nodded at her, "You're the best girl I've ever met."

"Really?" Carey Mulligan showed a hint of surprise and was about to say something when Murphy spoke up, "Go back and get an early night, you have a rehearsal with James tomorrow."

"There's that annoying guy again." Carey Mulligan muttered, standing up anyway.

Instead, her eyes landed on top of the bottle of wine on the coffee table, and she tentatively asked, "Is this Chivas Regal?"

Seeing Murphy nodding, she added with a few moments of longing, "Can I ... taste it?"

Murphy looked like he was in a difficult situation, thought for a while, and raised a finger, "Just a small taste, can't tell anyone else."

"Uh-huh!" Carey Mulligan said as if swearing a bet, "It's our secret."

After saying that, she grabbed Murphy's glass, picked up the bottle and poured a little bit of wine, tilted her head back and drank it in, as if it wasn't the first time she'd had a drink, took a deep breath and murmured, "It tastes a lot better than it did last time."

Murphy looked at her with a smirk, and Carey Mulligan immediately covered her mouth.

"Our secret." Murphy said at the right time.

Carey Mulligan immediately laughed happily, thinking that there was no better friend in the world than Murphy.

Leaving Murphy's room, Carey Mulligan turned out into the hallway, only to be stopped by a voice calling out from the stairwell, "Hey Carey."

James Franco appeared in front of her, "I hear the little lake up north is nice, everyone else is headed that way, interested in going over?"

A night out, or a night out with a guy? Carey Mulligan was naive, but not stupid, "Sorry, I'm going to rest."
