“We aren’t,” I said quietly, using my soothing cop voice. The one I used with hysterical crime victims. “Brothers, that is. I love this family as my own, and I’m beyond grateful to have you in my life. But as much as I count you all as family, we aren’t blood. And as far as Noah is concerned, I’m glad about that.” I paused and looked at him, and then turned my attention back to Angela. “I’m in love with him. I have been for years. And now that I finally have him, I’m not letting him go.”

Angela’s face turned an alarming shade of red, and when Sam tried to reach for her, to soothe her, she batted her husband’s hand away. “No!” she practically screeched. Sammy started to cry and made a beeline for his mother, but Angela didn’t care. “You are both my sons and this cannot happen. Travis, you cannot think I would accept this behavior from you!”
