37.5% Helper Of The Goddess / Chapter 15: Gloomy Village

Capítulo 15: Gloomy Village

Before Cytherea moved away, he tugged at her long hair which was a mix of gold and yellow. It made the goddess whimper as if the entire root of her hair would be pulled out if Xavier had no intention of letting go.

"That hurts, dumb man. What's wrong if we change our destination to somewhere else?"

"You're the dumb one. You said we need reinforcements to defeat Azazil, right? Then why did you abandon your intention?"

Getting out of the Southern Region was not an easy journey. They had encountered a group of forest animals and wild bandits who tried to harass them.

There was no need to use special abilities to repel them but what would happen if they had to defeat them every time for 5 days?

They even looked like vagabonds even though they occasionally cleaned themselves by a river

Xavier had not travelled this long and was in desperate need of rest to restore his abilities and physique to what it was when he was nicknamed 'The Most Killer'.

It would be a loss not to take advantage of a village that might serve as a transit point.

"I'm not going there!"

"Me too, but after we get information or reinforcements as a bonus." Pulling her hair, Xavier walked towards the village ahead of him.

It seemed strange to him that the goddess would suddenly hesitate and convey that she did not want to approach the village. It was not a complicated thing for Xavier to figure out hidden intentions. He sensed that something was being harboured and might be related to the village.

But as long as he did not have any problems or run into someone who had planned to kill him, there was no need to hide for now.

"This is quite strange," he muttered. "Hey, I'll letting go of your hair if you'll do as I say."

"No, you don't. I'm a goddess while you're just a stupid ex-soldier. Our social status is very much different."

Once they were close to the gate, from there Xavier made sure there were no guards or weapons pointed at them.

"Fine, I'll change. I'll let your hair down if you promise not to try to escape."

Cytherea nodded slowly. Her face was flushed and tears rolled down her cheeks. She looked like a baby in agony when the balloon in her grasp was released.

"I didn't know you looked so calm when molesting women."

"Don't let the people there get the wrong impression. Wash your face and promise you won't spread false information that brings down my reputation." Xavier ordered again. But this time his orders were obeyed by the goddess.

Xavier shook his head softly and let out a long sigh. He was a little overwhelmed by the member who was so disruptive to his cause. Besides, Cytherea seemed unstable and confused their original goal.

After that...

"We will enter the village. It looks like the guards are resting and there is no turnover."

"As you wish." Her voice was very hoarse especially since the snot had not completely disappeared from the walls of her nose.

"Good. I hope you'll tell me your reason for refusing to go to this village."

"Now?"

Xavier nodded confidently.

"You didn't even give me time to calm down."

Xavier did not answer, beginning to walk towards the village he had been avoiding. Although it looked very worthy of being a destination for information, but that was long before the two of them had ever set foot in this village a few years ago.

The village gate doesn't even deserve to be called a 'gate' because there are too many gaps for strangers and even wild animals to enter. Dozens of houses with porous roofs and moss-covered walls had spread to all sides of the houses. The potholed soil is mixed with rainwater and neglected rubbish. From the outside wafted the stench of a settlement that cared little for its environment and health.

Arriving at the gate, Xavier and Cytherea entered the gate casually without any inspection. It was like walking into their own home, so exposed and disgusting.

They could see more clearly the dreariness of the village they were stepping into. There was almost no difference between the locals and outsiders; it was squalid, smelly and dirty. Even just arriving, they could see many crimes such as theft and abuse freely.

This was not the village they had seen before and still couldn't understand what factors had led to such an ugly change to neglect the welfare of the residents.

Blocking one of the cracks in the wall, they bumped into an unknown traveller, dropping some of his belongings.

"Sorry, sir. I didn't see you when I was trying to hold my bowels." The man walked away without waiting for Xavier's reply.

Instantly his hand shot out quickly, grabbing a pouch hidden under his shirt.

"Be careful when walking and don't take other people's property again."

Surprised by his words, the stranger reached all over, feeling his stomach deflate slightly as he did so. "Damn it, you stole my food!"

"Isn't that what you guys do every day? It's our food supply after all. Don't think I didn't realise you stole it when you accidentally bumped into me."

"Bastard! Give it back to me! The stranger immediately stuck his hand into the pouch Xavier was holding. Unfortunately, the stranger had just lost consciousness when he launched an uppercut right at his chin.

A brief commotion that did not attract the attention of others was a success that he was proud of.

"You knocked him out with one punch? I thought you didn't hesitate to hit humans." Cytherea was slightly amazed.

"It depends who my opponent is. After all, he was the one who started this ruckus."

"Well, even you could kill the king of the forest with a kitchen knife. I think one dumb man is not an equal opponent."

"For real."

They resumed walking while turning their heads left and right to watch what was happening to this village. This village was quite changed and messy after all. It would be a little difficult to gather information when the locals were incapable of supporting themselves. There had to be at least one place they could go and be very discreet to talk to each individual with little coercion.

"By the way, why did this village become like this? It's so different," Cytherea was curious.

"I don't know. My last visit was quite a while ago and it wasn't this messy."

"Yes. With the current conditions, I'm sure you can defeat them without magic or the power of heaven."

Instantly the two of them stopped, looking at each other, realising something was off.

"You've been here?!" They were both genuinely surprised.Letting go of your hair
