Capítulo 60: Chapter 60: Unnoticed Rise in Status

After days of relentless effort, the village of Sunagakure showed significant improvement. Though many houses remained unrepaired, the roads had been cleared, and numerous tents now dotted the open spaces, providing temporary shelter for displaced villagers.

The village had regained a fragile semblance of peace, but the scars left by war were deep. The recent attack by Iwa-nin had not only devastated their homes but also ignited a fierce desire for vengeance.

The cries for retribution grew louder with each passing day.

This was to be expected. In the harsh logic of their world, a life demanded a life, a debt demanded repayment. Forgiveness was out of the question—blood could only be answered with blood.

"The great war looms on the horizon," Hattori thought as he surveyed the hatred etched into the faces of the villagers. A pang of emotion stirred within him.

"The Third Great Ninja War is merely a continuation of the Second, and the disappearance of the Third Kazekage is the spark that sets it ablaze. Is it really so impossible to change the course of this story?" he murmured to himself, a trace of helplessness flickering across his face.

"No... Perhaps it's not that the story can't be changed—it's that I'm too weak to change it. But one day..."

His hand unconsciously reached for the scroll strapped to his back, and a determined glint lit his eyes.

"I will change it all!"

Steeling his resolve, Hattori's expression hardened, and his stride grew purposeful as he moved through the village.

Hattori's first destination was Sunagakure's hospital. The original building had been destroyed in the attack, and medical operations had been temporarily relocated to an underground shelter. This arrangement had its advantages, offering greater protection for the injured and making ambushes less likely.

When Hattori arrived, the hospital was bustling. The supervisor, Mizusuna, moved frantically between patients and medical personnel. Fortunately, an emergency medical unit, composed of students from the ninja academy, had been assembled to provide assistance. Without their help, the situation would have been dire.

Seeing the chaos, Hattori couldn't simply walk away. He quickly pitched in, demonstrating advanced bandaging techniques to the academy recruits and using his healing jutsu on several critically injured patients. By the time he had nearly exhausted his chakra, he departed, leaving behind murmurs of admiration from the medics and patients alike.

Hattori's next stop was Karura's neighborhood, which had been spared the worst of the attack thanks to his strategic signal fires. While the homes in the area had mostly survived, many of them were now empty—supplies had been repurposed to fuel the flames during the battle.

Although his actions had been necessary at the time, guilt nagged at him. He had no means to repay the villagers whose belongings he'd used, but he hoped the village leadership would compensate them in due time.

"Until that's sorted, I'd better steer clear. Don't want to run into any awkward conversations," he muttered, redirecting his path toward the Kazekage's office.

The Kazekage's building, having borne the brunt of the attack, was in ruins. The upper floors, including the iconic "Wind" insignia, had been nearly obliterated. For now, all official business was conducted on the ground floor.

As Hattori approached, a group of Sand-nin exited the building with their assignments. Spotting him, they immediately stopped and bowed.

"Lord Hattori, thank you for protecting the village! If there's anything you need, just let us know."

Hattori waved dismissively, offering a small smile. "No need to be so formal. I just did what was necessary. I'm here to see my teacher, so don't let me keep you."

"Yes, Lord Hattori!" they replied in unison, bowing again before hurrying off.

The guards at the entrance straightened at his approach, saluting him with respect.

"Lord Hattori," one said, "Advisor Chiyo is currently in a meeting. I'll escort you to her."

"Thank you," Hattori replied, following the guard inside.

The guard led him to the meeting room, where the door was firmly shut. After a quick knock, the door opened slightly, and a hushed voice inquired, "What is it?"

"It's Lord Hattori. He wishes to see Advisor Chiyo."

The door opened further, and a Sand-nin stepped out, bowing. "Lord Hattori, Advisor Chiyo has been informed. Please wait a moment."

Hattori nodded and leaned against the wall, patiently waiting. Before long, the door reopened, and another Sand-nin appeared.

"Lord Hattori, Advisor Chiyo will see you now."

"Me? Inside?" Hattori blinked in surprise but quickly nodded. "Understood."

Inside the council chamber, the atmosphere was tense yet orderly. The room resembled a Western parliamentary hall, with the Kazekage's seat at the head of the table, flanked by three grand statues of the previous Kazekages. Photographs of the First, Second, and Third Kazekage lined the walls.

Though most of the seats were empty, Hattori immediately spotted Chiyo, who waved him over.

"Hattori, come here," she called.

"Yes, teacher," he responded, approaching. Before he could speak, Chiyo gestured to the seat beside her.

"Sit here!"

"Uh…" Hattori hesitated, eyeing the seat warily. "Teacher, wouldn't it be inappropriate for me to sit here? I think I'll just stand."

"Haha!" Chiyo's brother, Ebizo, chuckled. "See, Sister? He's talented and mature for his age."

"Indeed," Chiyo agreed, smiling warmly. She gestured again, more firmly this time. "Sit, Hattori. You're not just my student; you're a jonin, appointed by the Third Kazekage himself. You're the head of the emergency medical unit and the future head of the Sunagakure Medical Department. You've more than earned your place here."

Hattori stared at the seat—a symbol of authority and responsibility—with a mixture of disbelief and confusion.

"When… when did I become this important without even realizing it?"
