Capítulo 103: Chapter 103

Ethan draped a black cape over himself, and for a moment, he seemed to blend into the darkness, becoming almost impossible to see.

This was an experimental product Ethan had been working on over the summer, and while it was not quite up to his standards, it still worked pretty well.

He had wanted to make an Invisibility Cloak, but that was easier said than done. Of course, he was not aiming for something at the level of Harry and Cassia's Invisibility Cloak, that was a Deathly Hallow, but a lesser version would do for him.

Standard Invisibility Cloaks had the ability to make anything under it invisible. This was already quite the powerful enchantment, so although the cloak would lose its enchantment over time, it was already incredibly complex.

As for the Potters', or rather the Peverell's cloak, Ethan was not sure about what made it so special, although he had theories. Obviously, one major difference was that the enchantment was permanent, but that was not enough to stand on the same level as the Elder Wand and the Resurrection Stone, the other two Deathly Hallows.

If he had to guess, the cloak was capable of hiding more than light, but that was pure speculation.

In any case, an Invisibility Cloak was the type of item that only the very best enchanters could produce. And not only was Ethan not so sure he was skilled enough to create an Invisibility Cloak with the right instructions, he did not even have those.

He could have asked his mother, but he also wanted to set a challenge for himself, hence why he chose to go at it from scratch, slowly experimenting with it.

The results were the black cape he wore. He called it a Shadow Cape. It was quite different from an Invisibility Cloak in the way it worked, but in terms of effects, it was pretty close.

Light reflection was too hard to grasp for Ethan at the moment, so instead went for shadow manipulation. When worn, the cape would attract the surrounding shadows and cover the wearer with them, not quite turning them invisible, but much harder to see, especially at night.

Of course, in the middle of the day, it made the wearer more inconspicuous than anything, but even then it had its uses as it still did a wonderful job in hiding the identity of the wearer.

So, under the cover of the shadows, Ethan left the Slytherin Common Room, moving through the castle quickly.

He spotted several figures on his way, some Prefects, others Professors, all patrolling the castle. They were all some distance away, so they did not notice the anomaly that was Ethan's shadowed figure.

Eventually, he reached the girls' bathroom, which was completely empty. There were no signs of damage or tempering, the room looking the exact same as it did the last time Ethan was there.

Still, he took the time to look around the bathroom, using the Third Eye of Destruction to look for any danger or observer, but he found nothing. Not even a single magical remnant around the sink marked by a snake, which he had pointed out to Snape the day before.

Ethan was already too angry to think about what this could mean, and simply concluded that the Professors had wantonly ignored his warning, which only served to fuel his anger.

Arriving before the sink, Miyuki jumped down from Ethan's shoulder, and started tinkering with the sink, followed by Ethan.

He was already ready and expecting to have to resort to blasting the entrance open. After all, a seal placed by Salazar Slytherin should be extremely complex.

Yet, much to his surprise, the enchantment on the sink was astonishingly simple. If anything, it felt like it had been set down by a student, rather than one of the legendary four founders of Hogwarts.

It was pretty good, but the main function of the enchantment was to hide the entrance, rather than seal it. Of course, there was still a secondary function exactly for that purpose, but it took Ethan less than a minute to crack it open.

The moment he did, the sink shifted back and started sinking, pushing the surrounding sinks as well as a large pipe was soon revealed. It was completely dark, and seemed to lead into the depths of the castle.

Ethan did not hesitate for one second before he stepped in, Miyuki jumping back on his shoulder.

Lighting up his surroundings with a Lighting Charm, Ethan found himself going through a series of tunnels. They smelled putrid and full of humidity, and he would often spot rats scurrying away from him.

It almost felt like he had entered a maze, but with the help of the Third Eye of Destruction, Ethan was able to follow the relatively fresh tracks of the Basilisk to make his way through it.

Finally, Ethan reached the end of the tunnels, and arrived in a large, damp cavern. Water dripped down from crystal stalactites above, glowing with a faint greenish light. Ethan kept his Lumos on nonetheless, as his eyes were drawn to something else.

There, coiled against one of the walls of the cavern, was a gigantic figure. Ethan's heart skipped a beat at the sight, and he felt Miyuki tense on his shoulder.

It was a serpent, easily ten meters long, maybe more. Fortunately, it was not the beast itself, but a shed instead. Still, the green scales the beast had left behind possessed a venomous green lustre.

Ethan had already imagined facing the beast several times in his mind, but now that he was finally getting a sense of its sheer size with his own eyes, he could not help but feel trepidation.

Its size alone would already make it a devastating monster, and adding onto that its deadly glare and potent venom? It truly was one of the most dangerous beasts in the world, one Ethan did not have any hope of defeating in a straight fight.

Still, Ethan did not turn tails. He was on a mission, and he would not be deterred. This would not be the first time he faced a monster above his weight class. And like all those other times, he had Miyuki with him.

He advanced deeper into the cavern, until he reached the end of it. All of a sudden, the natural cavern led to a clearly man-made solid wall. On it were carved two entwined serpents, their eyes pairs of embedded emeralds.

This was the true entrance to the Chamber of Secrets.

However, as Ethan took a step towards it, he suddenly felt a chill as a red light was fired at him from a corner of the cave.

Reacting purely out of instinct, Ethan transfigured the ground next to him, blocking the spell with a large stone spike that easily stopped the spell.

At the same time, Ethan's Lighting Charm was naturally deactivated as Ethan completely lost his focus on the spell, and the room was thrown into complete darkness. There were no more crystal stalactites in this part of the cavern, meaning there were no light sources left.

That should have handicapped them both as much as each other, yet Ethan saw another spell being fired at him, very accurately. It hit the stone spike he had raised, shattering it into a thousand pieces as another spell came for him.
