He delivered a powerful thrust, and as his climax approached, every muscle in his body clenched up before he slumped on me. He murmured "Damn, damn, damn" into my hair before becoming quiet, his body still pressing heavily against mine.

The air conditioner rattled to start, then hummed steadily. Robert paused to gather his breath before rolling off of me and stroking my perspiration-covered back. "Emily?"

"Mmm?" I whispered.

He continued, "I want more than just this," in a heavy, resonant voice that made me wonder whether he was really awake.

My thoughts erupted into a frantic state of chaos as I froze. "What the heck did you just say?"

He struggled to open his eyes, then turned to look at me. "I want to be here with you."

I lifted my arm to look up at him because I was unable to think of a meaningful reply.
