Baptist woke to the smell of fire smoke.

“Geoff.”

The quiet, curt warning was unnecessary. The man was already knelt beside their pack, deftly gathering and stashing their things.

“Aye, I know.” His tone was hushed, not exactly reassuring, but Batt appreciated the fact that the man didn’t treat him as a child - sugar coating urgent matters. “We must move.”
