Capítulo 13: Joining the clues

"huh!? his statement caught everyone by surprise. Even Felix was caught off guard.

On the other hand, Nick had a vicious smile all over his face.

"Felix!?..." locking her gaze on him, Celia called his name anxiously. She wanted to know whether what Nick said was true or not? Why would Felix say something like that?

'This guy... Tch!!' there was no doubt that Nick did succeed in setting Felix in a tight spot. Yet, he simply stared at Nick with his half-opened eyes indifferently.

"Well! Brother Nick! Yes! I did say that to you earlier..." Felix started to explain.

"Ah!?" a gasping sound emerged from his left which obviously belonged to none other than Celia. Why? Why would Felix say something like that for her? He didn't want to share his dinner with her? Why? Numerous thoughts appeared in her mind implying that she was hurt. However, her expression soon turned into happiness when Felix quickly added,

"But, I said that because you told me, Brother Nick, that Celia doesn't like veg foods at all. She hates it."

"Wh... What??" their gaze turned to Nick after hearing Felix's side. They now were staring at him with absolute discontent, especially Celia.

"Senior Nick! How? How can you say something like that to Felix? Who told you I hate veg foods? I didn't expect you would do something like that behind my back. Hmph!!", turning her head in a displeased manner, Celia took the other half of the sandwich from Felix's hands and started munching on it erratically. As if she was trying to show she loves veg food the most.

"This...this..." sudden turn of events just made Nick speechless. He couldn't even comprehend what just happened. Felix was the one who was under his trap. Then, how come suddenly everything changed? How come he became a perpetrator!? Fuck this! When did he ever say something like that to Felix? He was outsmarted by Felix? How in the hell?

Understanding that Felix just made a fool out of him. He gnashed his teeth in fury, staring daggers at him. However, right now his top priority was to please Celia. Thinking that he can take care of Felix later, he stood up from his seat and came to Celia's side,

"Ohh! My dear Celia! I didn't say anything like that. Felix must have misheard something. How can I say that about you, Celia? We know each other since you joined this team. Have I ever done something like this behind your back?"

Revealing his puppy eyes, Nick pleaded with Celia. Yet, what he got in return was another 'hmph' from her.

"Senior Nick! I'm not your Dear Celia. Leave me alone for now. I don't want to talk to you right now."

The matter finally subsided as Celia eventually forgave Nick. They were back on the bridge to try their luck one last time. If they get nothing now, it was truly over for them.

However, among all of them, there was one person who had a faint uncommon feeling inside her heart. Alex, who saw what took place inside the bus couldn't help but think about Celia and Veronica. Firstly, she came to know that Veronica had a little private talk with Felix. Secondly, Celia asked Felix for his food. Knowing how Celia's personality is, this came as a surprise for her. Even she didn't know why she was overthinking on this simple matter. Yet, she couldn't help as she submerged deep into her thoughts.

Sauntering back to their spot for further investigation, subsequently, something unexpected soon took place,

"Aaaaaaaaahhhhh!!" shrieking in fright Veronica instantly turned behind.

That was a loud shriek. Her scream made everyone turn their head in her direction. They noticed that Veronica kept looking behind while rubbing her back. Realizing her odd behavior, Alex promptly came to her, "What happened Veronica?"

Turning her head towards them she explained, "I... I just felt something. I felt like someone just touched me from behind. I'm not sure but I do felt like something rubbing against my back."

Her chest heaved up and down, her arm kept on rubbing her back as if she was trying to erase the previous sensation, replacing it with her own touch.

"Oh really now? I mean I get it that this site is haunted and all. But, so far we have got just 3 words and nothing else. And, your claim doesn't appear to be acceptable at all Veronica."

Nick couldn't vent out his previous anger on Felix and it was no surprise that these words came right from his mouth now.

Furrowing her brows at Nick, Veronica had no additional way to make them believe her. Her favourability for him soon lessened by few points due to his incredulous comment. A quiet then punctuated the air between them.

"It must be your imagination," Mike placed his hand on her shoulder to ease down her worries.

However, she immediately pulled back herself in retortion, "I'm not lying... I for sure..."

"It's Okay Veronica. Calm down!" Alex held her arms stopping her in mid-sentence.

What is wrong with them? They aren't even listening to me. Did I say something wrong? She kept on thinking with a stern frown visible on her face.

"I believe you Sister Veronica," suddenly, a soft voice soon entered her ears as she turned towards the source of the voice only to find Felix looking at her with a faint smile.

Such a simple sentence. But, Felix said those words when she needed to hear them the most. Adjusting her glasses, she gave him a grateful nod in return. Unbeknownst to her, this little gesture of him had already made a place deep inside her heart.

"Guyyyyysssss!!!" suddenly Nick exclaimed.

He immediately pointed his thermal camera on top of the railing and what he got was a sudden significant temperature drop.

"I got a temperature drop right there," he added.

They quickly came to his side to see it with their own eyes. And, what they saw was definitely a crucial temperature drop. It is believed that ghosts/spirits use the energy in their surroundings to recharge themselves or for their manifestations.

Sometimes, they'll absorb the thermal energy around themselves which usually results in a considerable drop in temperature. This often indicates that a certain unknown entity is present at that spot. Otherwise, what else can cause such an alteration in temperature out of nowhere?

Other times they'll use different sources of energy. Lights, fans, and any other appliances or devices which operate on energy and produce energy are their favorites. That is the reason why in most cases paranormal activities always involve lights to flicker peculiarly. It's because the entities try to consume the electrical energy to replenish themselves.

***

"It's actually her!!!" as they were busy contemplating, Felix's loud cry made them look towards him.

His eyes were wide as if he had just seen a ghost. Felix has been acting strangely ever since their inspection started. Alex and Celia particularly had some doubts which were left unanswered. Yet, they didn't try to probe into his matters further. It wasn't the right thing to do after all.

"What... What is it, Felix?" Mike asked; his hands gripping the EMF detector firmly.

However, before Felix could even answer, Mike's EMF detector went crazy as it started to fluctuate.

*Click* *Click* *Click*

The detector's LED lights lit up from green to yellow indicating the presence of an electromagnetic field nearby.

"It's here..." Mike brought his device close to the railing as it kept on hitting the yellow LED with the flickering sound of fluctuations.

*Depression*

One more word resounded from Alex's EVP in the same robotic female voice, which sent another chill down their spine.

"Felix? What were you saying back then!?" asked Celia frantically.

"It's... It's her Celia."

"huh? What?"

"The mother..."

"Mother...!?"

Felix looked at her intently enunciating, "The mother with the child. The one you told me about earlier on the bus."

"Aaahhhh!!" she gasped the moment realization hit her. She was the one who told him about the infamous rumor related to the bridge. The mother, who threw her child and then jumped herself, plummeting to her death.

"What? How!? How can you tell!?" his shoulders instantly hunched in anxiety at her question.

"I... I just feel like it," without giving her an absolute answer, Felix quickly strode away from her to Alex and Mike.

Furrowing her brows, Celia too followed and came by his side when Alex spun around and asserted, "The fourth word. It said ~ depression."

All of a sudden, as if something clicked Felix's mind, he muttered, "The... Great... Depression."

"This...Celia's eyes went wide in realization; her pupils shook as her mouth opened, then closed. She couldn't bring herself to utter anything for a brief moment. The coldness around the area sank into her skin intensifying the previous chilling sensation.

When Alex and others heard them, their eyes were only locked on to Celia. She was the only one who seemed as if a current jolted through her body. After, hearing Felix's words everyone had goosebumps all over their body. They already knew about it, yet they wanted to hear from Celia's mouth.

The Great Depression.

It was a serious economic depression, that took place mostly during the 1930s, beginning in the United States. Although the timing of the Great Depression differed across the world; in most countries, it started in 1929 and lasted until the late 1930s. It was the longest, deepest, and most widespread depression of the 20th century.

The stock market crash, profit drops, falling of trades, unemployment, agricultural decline, etc. were some of the major failures.

When Celia finished explaining the history of the crisis that took place, they shivered at just the thought of the woman's fate.

"Then, this means... This is what drove her to suicide?" Paul frowned as he asked.

"Yes!!" Felix's deep voice resounded.

They saw he was standing behind them. He appeared somewhat strange. They couldn't discern but something definitely was odd about him. His aura was completely unusual.

Felix came closer in slow steps as he continued, "It's the spirit of the mother who died here during the period of the Great Depression. Jumping from this very railing, which is present right in front of us. Didn't Senior Nick got a significant temperature drop right here? It's because the spirit consumed the thermal energy around her to respond. To give us the clues. Didn't the fourth word said~ Depression? She wants us to know how she died here. She also said 'chaos'. It was her trying to explain the situation back then."

He added, "Sister Veronica was right. Her name was Olivia. A pitiful mother who died here. She was driven to such a point that the only option she could come up with was suicide. Poverty... Homelessness...

No food... A child... Her husband, who left them running away from his responsibilities to survive, leaving them on their own. Pitiful isn't it?"
