Capítulo 393: Two lonesome statues

It is not how everyone wished to spend the evening of New Year's Eve, but they did.

Ivy and the film crew spent their last day of the year away from home at an underground art tunnel in Washington. Not that they complained because their director promised to wrap up before dinner so that everyone can enjoy a peaceful dinner and make their own plans for the night.

"That's it for the day, everyone. Thanks to the production team and all the staff, the actors, everyone- I know we're away from home, but I hope we can make the best out of it to welcome the new year. You guys are great, and I'm pleased to be working with all of you."

Ivy was wrapping up for the day with a special speech. Every member at the shooting gathered around to hear.

"You get an off tomorrow, so have fun tonight. But, don't get into trouble. We got the permit to shoot at this place because of our producer, Mr. Tim. I'll make sure to thank him.

Oh, don't go alone anywhere. It will be hard if any of you ran into trouble. Don't drink too much to the point where you're hungover all day. I need you guys back in good shape."

Ivy noticed how impatient the crowd was getting at every word she kept adding to her speech. She laughed and requested that everyone acts responsibly and then ended her speech.

As soon as she finished talking, the crowd that gathered disbanded at lightning speed. The actors left to their stations to be removed from costume and make-up. The production crew stepped into action. It was now them against time, which is still early for dinner.

It was only a quarter past eight. However, the energy compared from when shooting to now clearly speaks for itself. Ivy almost noticed everyone in their hurried state. Bethany was among them. She packed her equipment, said goodbye to her friends, and then vanished from sight.

"Is she going alone?" Ivy asked after watching Bethany leave in a hustle.

"Yeah. She told me she has some friends here, so she's meeting up with them for some midnight fireworks action."

"Does she? I wonder how she knows so many people!" Ivy muttered in awe.

"Bite me."

Parker scoffed and left to have a meeting with the production staff.

***

By the time they wrapped up for the day, it was already dead black and cold outside. The crew wore their thick jackets and coats to protect themselves from getting frozen.

After Parker had left to meet with the production staff, Ivy found David to go through their schedule. They flew to Washington for a couple of days to shoot a portion of scenes for the movie. David discussed the progress from today, working out a plan to utilize Washington to their advantage. Once done with their discussion, David was getting ready to leave.

"Alright. You two girls have fun," he wearily greeted.

"Aren't you going to wait for Parker?" Ivy asked.

"No. I'm getting dinner for us, so I'll be leaving first," David informed.

Just then, Parker returned to add his request before hastily leaving with the tripod and microphones.

"David, please don't forget the drinks!" he said and vanished into the shadows.

"You got it!" David yelled in the direction and gestured at Ivy.

"He is exhausted these days!"

"Why won't he? We all are, David.

We all are!

Alright, I'll let you go!"

"Hmm."

David said goodbye and left the underground tunnel. The last scene for the day was shot underneath Dupont Circle, in an abandoned space called the artistic underground tunnel. Ivy and her group were present inside the tunnel while the vehicles, actors stations, staff were all present outside. One by one left the shaft after done with their job.

Seeing David retire, Ivy went back to join Parker and the production staff, updating them about the upcoming shooting schedule.

***

Meanwhile, the actors who were all done for the day returned to their casuals. They didn't look like the stars that they are and appeared modest in their appearance. A couple of them had already planned to go all out tonight and celebrate the New Year. Joining them were the rest of the cast members. While at it, they saw Lucy standing singly outside the tunnel, appearing to be waiting for someone. They assumed that she must be waiting for Frank, her manager, who became a well-known figure within the film crew. Regardless of whether he would consent or not, they still approached Lucy to invite her to their all-night adventure.

Lucy respectfully declined the offer. Her fellow actors didn't pursue further and let her be. They did ask her to join anytime at the said spot the group is going to hang out. Just as the group joked about planning to get drunk all night, David passed by. He advised them to take it easy and not spoil their good health.

"Wow, David's wisdom, guys!" some teased.

"Listen to me while you can, kids!" David only said to ignore the young crowd and take his leave.

The group followed him together in a prank while announcing that anyone can join their celebratory party.

Hearing this, a few gave shout-outs, as now more people volunteered to show interest. Overlooking the outbursting enthusiasm, Lucy continued to wait solemnly.

The ladies who were about to leave noticed Lucy waiting alone for a while and went to question. They asked if she was expecting Frank, her manager.

"But I saw Frank leave earlier!" one of them answered.

Hearing that bought tension between them as Lucy panicked to answer. Catching the scent of her alarm, the one who initially wanted to question Lucy whispered to her friend to leave at once.

Lucy could feel them mumbling to each other while being noticeably audible.

"Did you not know?"

"What?"

"She's waiting to see the director."

"Director Ivy?"

"Hmm."

"Why?"

"You dumbhead," the lady who spoke first hushed her friend, pushing her to leave while saying their goodbyes in a hurry.

"Don't you know?"

"About what?"

"Those two are-" the lady who spoke first whispered to the other.

Lucy could feel her cheeks burning from the talks spreading like wildfire.

"Are you serious?" the other one gasped.

"Yeah. I heard that someone from the production team saw those two together post-Christmas shooting.

They were seen exchanging presents."

"Wow."

The ladies heaved from the hot news, eyeing each other and then turning to look in Lucy's direction.

Lucy caught their staring and turned away unceremoniously.

"Wow, you never know, right?"

"Yeah."

"But I didn't know that the model and director would swing this way!"

"Are you judging them?"

Startled, the other one retraced her words with an apology.

"Sorry. I was just shocked to hear."

"You better! Anyways, let's get going. It's getting colder every minute. I'm sure they all reached the place already."

The ladies turned back, resuming their journey to the nearby bar to join the rest.

Lucy stood still, feeling cold and distant. She was the first one to finish her scenes today and yet still waiting desperately at the location.

***

By now, Parker was done with all his tasks and had quickly collected his bags to leave at once. However, he noticed Ivy still loitering inside the tunnel. He walked to catch her off guard.

Ivy noticed him as well to send him off, but Parker stayed for a moment. He kept staring at Ivy and only said few words before taking off.

"I know it's all different now. Still, you two have fun together! And don't act crazy!"

Ivy almost frowned at him for his comment. Before she could come up with a perfect response, she saw him leave in a flash.

***

The Dupont Underground that was busy just a while ago for a film shooting now returned to look abandoned once again. Except for the few remaining staff, everyone else left with their own plans for tonight.

Nonetheless, patiently waiting just outside the tunnel entrance was none other than Bridgette, another soul whose presence was hidden so craftily that nobody noticed her. Under her disguise, she was mistaken for someone from the crew. The whole time she never stood out to attract attention or joined to interact with anyone.

**

The story went with Bridgette planning to celebrate New Year's Eve with her boyfriend, Adrienne. But Adrienne's parents live in Washington, who happens to hear that their precious son is in a relationship. Immediately, they invited him and his girlfriend to celebrate the New Year together.

Bridgette was nervous initially considering how soon it was to meet the parents, but Adrienne convinced her nonetheless, and the two ended up visiting his parents in Washington.

The plan was to have dinner with Adrienne's parents on New Year's Eve, but knowing that her buddy Ivy was also in the town, Bridgette begged herself out of the original plan and suggested a new one, having breakfast with Adrienne's parents. It may seem like they are starting the first day of the new year together as a family. Blinded by her vision, Adrienne supported, letting Bridgette hang out with her friend.

Ivy knew she would be busy shooting. Still, when Bridgette reached out, she let her come to watch the shooting. Then, later they can hang out together. It sounds like a decent plan to celebrate New Year's Eve. Hence, Bridgette agreed.

Bridgette was waiting for the right moment to step out. Once she identified that only a few people remained in the location, she revealed herself from her hiding spot. As she examined her surroundings, she came across another lonely statue standing all alone, just like the abandoned art tunnel.

It was none other than the infamous Lucy she keeps hearing about.

Bridgette saw Lucy waiting alone. Her gaze all directed towards the tunnel, where Ivy was present. Knowing how Ivy's taken a liking to this girl, Bridgette couldn't help but consider their current scenario.

For several minutes, Bridgette watched Lucy stick to the same spot. Despite people coming up to her for several reasons, this girl remained unaffected.

Bridgette couldn't help but make her own theory and assume that it is the truth. She sighed at the sight of Lucy waiting alone stubbornly and then took off in heat to meet her friend.

Capítulo 394: Bridgette's play

Bridgette finally stepped into the tunnel to find it in its original glory.

Over the years, the Dupont Underground circle has evolved to be a place that fosters creativity, whether as a workshop, exhibition space or simply a venue to host media productions. But, Ivy had now turned this hotspot into an assault trench for an action scene. There were traces of blood, which was now getting cleaned up after easily by the production crew. There were scraps scattered around earlier, which was gone by now. Despite many leaving, there were still a few who remained to clean up after the shooting. Bridgette was distracted by the visuals that it took her a minute to spot Ivy, who was busily going through papers in her director's chair.

It was the first time Bridgette saw Ivy in her position. For a second, she felt proudest. Both of them have come a long way to achieve what they dreamed of since they were young. The nostalgia moved her to tears. But before they came pouring down, she stopped herself voluntarily.

Walking towards the cause of her tears, Bridgette cautiously paced to make a surprise entrance.

"Hey, girl,

Remember me?"

Upon reaching the vicinity, Bridgette greeted. It was an underground tunnel, so her voice could easily reach its target.

Ivy's gaze went from down to meet her friend, Bridgette. A rush of shock reflected in her ashen face.

"Bri- dgette?" she could barely utter her name.

"Don't tell me you forgot about inviting me?" Bridgette remarked from far.

"Wh- what? No. Definitely not," Ivy retorted, jumping down from her seat.

By this time, Bridgette had come closer to see Ivy's panicked face clearly. She playfully threw her arms around in a punch a couple of times as the two battled in their usual vigor.

Ivy apologized instinctively for ignoring the friend she invited to hang out in her shooting spot. Bridgette already moved on from accusing Ivy to worrying about her current state. Underneath the dark tunnel with barely visible lights present, this woman worked after sending everyone to celebrate their night.

"It's New Year's Eve! Didn't you end your little speech a while ago?

What are you still doing?" Bridgette fretted, pulling another weak punch at her friend.

Ivy couldn't help but take the hit with a tiny chuckle.

"I have to. The movie doesn't make itself!" she exclaimed wearily.

Bridgette could see the tension always when Ivy is working. She knew that Ivy wouldn't rest until she finished her job to her satisfaction. Whether it was fortunate or unfortunate, the shooting process had to be held for the holidays so that the people working for her could rest with their families and come back with enthusiasm. No one likes to work on holidays.

Even today, Ivy ended the shooting early than scheduled. Bridgette could understand where she comes from and the responsibility entails to her job. As a friend, she could only worry about her.

Nevertheless, not anymore tonight. Bridgette knew what she had to do and was eager to work her magic for Ivy. She urged Ivy to wrap up, and Ivy listened, except she requested Bridgette to wait again and disappeared out of her sight.

It was her final instructions to the crew before signing off. She handed over the schedule changes and updates for the upcoming shoots. Ivy added a request to pass on all the information to everyone involved. She then hurriedly collected her things and dumped them inside her bag before returning to Bridgette's side.

Bridgette's act began upon seeing her ready to go.

Her face settled on a constraining frown, setting the emotion.

"What happened? I'm ready. Let's go," Ivy recalled in difficulty.

It was here that Bridgette began to stutter her words with excellent regret. Restlessly, she kept stammering her legs, looking away purposefully from Ivy's gaze.

"What?" Ivy called out again from impatience.

"You see- about that, I think we have to cancel for tonight," Bridgette hesitantly revealed.

Genuinely surprised isn't the way to capture Ivy's reaction because she was utterly shocked to hear her call off their night.

"What- Why?" Ivy tried to ask.

"You see-" Bridgette turned away from meeting Ivy's upset face.

She tried to search for an apt reason but failed possibly at every thought. Until the right one waited at the back of her mind. She contemplated herself a million times about this subject, whether to share it with Ivy or not. However, since the situation calls for, leaving it to fate, Bridgette said a little prayer before attempting her last resort.

"You see-" Bridgette uttered from where she left.

She started by reassuring the news about Adrienne's parents living in Washington, Dc. She added by imparting how Ivy knew that Bridgette came with her boyfriend to celebrate welcoming the New Year alongside his family. Only after informing all of these crucial details did she began to add her little twisted lie.

Bridgette informed how Adrienne's parents had unexpectedly invited them for dinner tonight. It is going to be a late-night gathering, Bridgette noted with an exclamation.

After laying out the critical card in front of Ivy, who appears to be silently listening, Bridgette curiously waited to see her reaction. Only upon how her friend reacts will Bridgette be forced to charge again or not.

To her praying, Ivy seems not to question further. Rather than feeling saddened or disturbed by this news, she appeared lost in thoughts.

"Isn't it too soon?" Ivy asked.

"I mean, meeting parents," she added in doubt.

"I know, right!" Bridgette joined to support.

She couldn't agree more. It was the only thing she could think at the moment.

The act worked, and Bridgette felt relieved somehow. Despite some part of her story being true, she knew bringing Adrienne into the conversation might silence Ivy. She only worried if it would be in a good or bad way. After noticing for a while now, Ivy appears comfortable talking about Adrienne. As far as Bridgette cared, Ivy seemed no longer bothered by her relationship. Although she could go mute sometimes, there was no other choice than this.

Bridgette followed with another prayer, apologizing for bringing up a sensitive topic to a friend who had once confessed her feelings. She appealed that it was for Ivy's sake and to help Ivy pursue her newfound interest.

It was a gamble, and Ivy fell for it.

Eventually, Ivy had no choice but to agree.

Bridgette finished her performance by mentioning how she was waiting patiently to inform in the end. She didn't want to interrupt when Ivy was shooting. Plus, she always wanted to observe the film shooting, and she had fun today.

Ivy couldn't help but feel both happy and let down at the same time. She was glad that Bridgette had fun today and let the incident slide. On the contrary, Ivy urged Bridgette to leave timely, asking if she needed a ride.

Bridgette panicked to decline. Instead, she asked Ivy to take it easy for the night.

"Who knows, maybe you'll meet someone tonight?" Bridgette added with a wink.

Ivy ordered her to leave at once.

"What? I'm just wishing for the best!"

"Oh- that's great. Just leave. Don't you have an appointment?" Ivy pushed Bridgette to walk out.

"Alright. Stop. Stop."

Bridgette battled her to a halt. She then added another request. Ivy looked tired and beaten down already. Having her plan canceled for tonight, the only thing she was hoping for is a good night's rest. So, she patiently waited to hear Bridgette's request.

"I'll go first. So, can you come out- like later?" Bridgette appealed awkwardly.

Ivy sure could see her friend in a new light, odd and unusual. Still, she agreed with tumbling exhaustion. It's as if she let it go and was in a state of unbothered.

Bridgette slowly walked out at first. With every step, she kept looking back at Ivy, who promised to wait.

Only after Ivy's stern assurance did Bridgette disappear swiftly.

Ivy obeyed to wait. She didn't know how long, so she looked around to find only two people in her company. They were going through the checklist to see if all the properties were back on the vehicle. Without hesitation, Ivy joined them. It kept her occupied for longer than expected.

Meanwhile, Bridgette rushed out to finally see the bright lights. She quickly scanned her surroundings to spot Lucy. There were now even fewer people, probably around five to six, scattered far away from each other, minding their own business. Lucy hid in a good spot where her silhouette was perfectly buried, leaving the head alone visible.

Bridgette could only guess because of the frozen head. Everyone else was moving with purpose except one, which stood like a statue. Walking towards it, Bridgette quickly reached. She stood close to Lucy that it startled both with a jerk.

Giving each their personal space, the ladies stood from a few inches apart.

"Hi," Bridgette initiated the talk.

Lucy was surprised to find a complete stranger greeting her. She assumed it might be someone from the production crew. Even so, she felt weird by this woman's unusual enthusiasm.

"Yes," Lucy replied with an expectation that this person would demand later.

Bridgette laughed at her response. She knew that it was their first meeting. Howsoever, Bridgette rushed in one long speech.

She introduced herself as Ivy's good friend, rather than close; She didn't want Lucy to misunderstand or consider her a competition. Bridgette then continued,

"This is the first time we're meeting, but I just want to say-

Thank you!

I'm assuming you're waiting for Ivy," she guessed.

Lucy's face blushed from the embarrassment. She began to stutter. But, before she could explode from the shyness, Bridgette stopped her.

"She will be coming now soon. I know this is sudden, but I think we'll meet more in the future. Anyways, I won't keep you too long."

Bridgette bid her farewell as Lucy stood in confusion. Everything happened too quick for her to digest, and just like that, Bridgette was rushing her goodbye.

Nonetheless, before actually leaving, she paused for a second to turn around and meet Lucy's gaze.

She could see Lucy's patience. She could notice the eagerness in her eyes.

"One last thing, don't be waiting out here all night. That fool wouldn't notice underneath the work, so-

Be more confident and go get her."

With those words, Bridgette finally left. She walked out of the location and soon disappeared from Lucy's sight.

Lucy stood there, silently hearing those words repeat themselves again and again in her head. Rather than focusing on how the stranger gave advice, she contemplated whether to follow it or not.

It was getting late, and Lucy worried if it should be her to approach Ivy.

Alright, this one turned out to be a long chapter and so, you get this and one more on webnovel. After which, we go straight to Shane's party. More details on next chapter.

I honestly love seeing Bridgette playing wingman for Ivy.

How far she has come!

I didn't want this character to forever be a bully. Living your life, following your passion often tests your personality and how you sustain the harships. So, I chose to have Bridgette turn over a new leaf over time. I'm proud of her.

I hope you enjoyed reading.

People who love Ivy and Lucy's story, show me your love in the comments! I would like to hear from you!!!
