"Fuck!" His two hands flailed around, trying to take hold of a rock or a tree to hold onto but it was for naught. 

He had also swallowed mouthfuls of soil, making his mouth extremely bitter and his face covered in mud. 

"Fuck this piece of shit!" Lucien's mouth did not stop cussing even though some of his words were marbled because of some soil that went to his tongue. 

Lucien immediately took out the blade in his left wrist, doing all so naturally. He struck the ground as hard as he can and arched his body. 

His other hand held the roots that wrapped his ankles and cut them mercilessly. A sharp horrifying scream broke out a few meters ahead. 

That spot has a dense pack of forest, at the center, there was an inconspicuous tree which is the owner of the roots that attacked Lucien.

The roots, after being severed, retracted swiftly. Lucien stood up and spat out some dirt left in his mouth.
