“Okay, Donovan, but I can take care of myself,” I insist, taking a small step back.
I feel like I need some air, or that I need to remind myself that gravity still works, and my feet are on the ground.
I still can’t believe that within a span of less than a week, Donovan is back in Centerburg, alpha of one of the most powerful packs in the country, and just gave me his alpha medallion.
“I know you’re strong.” Donovan puts his hand on my shoulder, and I warm up instantly. “But everyone needs support, and you don’t have to worry about being in danger.”
I want to believe him. I want to believe that he’s my almost literal knight in shining armor that will whisk me away and make everything okay.
“And, you don’t have to worry about baking that lasagna again. I asked my chef friend to bake you a lasagna, or whatever dish you’d like to bring your parents on Sundays.” Donovan smiles down at me and my eyes shoot wide.
