Capítulo 48: I Just Joined

It's been another week since I stayed in that hospital. Most of my bandages were taken off, and all that was left was the IV attached to my hand, other than the IV, I had mostly stabilized for the most part, according to the doctor. There was no wound yet, but the scar that stretched alongside my neck alongside the old scar on my head that was hidden by the hairs.

Today, I'd be discharged from the clinic, which was good news, alongside with I'd be given a place to stay, which was quite unexpected. Well, I suppose, staying in this Vault had its own purpose. I wondered how big this Vault was, though. It seemed that there was enough population around here. I could assume there were more than 1,000 people in this Vault.

"Alright, you should be good to go," the doctor said as he finished taking off the IV from my hand.

"Thanks, doc," I said.

"I hope you don't mind, but I want to talk to you about something, regarding this Vault, or the resident in this vault," he commented.

"Sure, go ahead."

"I think Sergeant Kyle had said that the Enclave currently has a severe personnel issue which meant everyone in this Vault works for something. Some are working as doctors, some are working as mechanics, some are working as engineers, you get the idea."

It meant that I have to work in this Vault. I sighed. Well, it was not like staying here without doing anything would be a good idea whatsoever. Still, what could I do here? I was reluctant to work as a dishwasher in this place.

"I hope you don't mind, but I did peek into your old Pip-Boy, you seemed to have quite a high skill in Medicine and Guns. So, I want to know whether you are interested to work as my assistant in this clinic," he said.

I smiled, and looked at him like a child looking at a piece of candy, "Are you serious?"

"Yes, I'm serious. However, there's something else that you need to do."

"And what's that?" I asked, curious about something else that I needed to do.

"You still have to pass through basic military training first. It'd only last for two months and after that, I'll take you as an apprentice, what do you say, Enzo?" He asked.

"What? I didn't say that I want to join the Enclave, have I told you that?" I said.

The doctor tried to calm me down, "Calm down, I said military training, not Enclave military membership. Think of it as conscription. Besides, you did owe us your life, don't you think?" He said. "We aren't going to force you to serve, but we can't afford you to roam the wasteland telling Enclave is here to everyone, you understand that, right?"

Truth be told, I was still undecided regarding whether to join the Enclave or not. I wasn't affiliated with Legion or the NCR, even though I had done several works for the NCR as a mercenary. Sure, the NCR had its own perks, but a reformed Enclave promised a better future in the grand scheme of things, especially with its advanced technology.

The people here were… well, people. They didn't talk like some genocidal maniac or straight fascist as far as I knew. Hmm, what a choice, power armor, advanced weapons, and a mission or regular life as a mercenary with one of the biggest factions in Mojave Wasteland called NCR.

"I know your previous affiliation with the NCR, but still, do you want to rebuild America to its former glory with us?" The doctor smiled, and at that moment, I made my choice.

"It's a hard choice, to be honest, but well, count me in," I agreed to finally join the former United States faction, the old world.

The doctor smiled again, and this time, his smile was very bright, "That's good to hear. I'm glad you make the rightest choice. I'll contact your trainer later. You'll be training alongside other four people of your age," he said.

"Four people? Isn't that number too little?" I commented.

"As I said earlier, personnel issues. Don't worry, they don't have anything against Wastelanders," he said.

"Good to know," I said.

"Anyway, your quarter would be at Barrack #2."

Suddenly, I noticed someone appeared in the clinic. He was the same sergeant that I met a week ago, Sergeant Kyle. That person appeared once again, but this time, I could guess what his purpose was. His main purpose would be to bring me into the barrack, right?

"Ah, Enzo, or should I say, Private Rockwell?" He said.

Private Rockwell? Where the hell did he get my surname? Was it because of my Pip-Boy? Wait, I never mentioned my name anywhere, didn't I, how the hell did he manage to do that? Unless the Enclave managed to dig some important data from my Pip-Boy, which would make it a way different case than before.

"Yes, Sergeant?" I asked.

"Go to Barrack #2, the others will fill you in with the details," He said.

"Yes, sir," I said.

"It's in the main hallway. Just look for the living quarter, then search for the military living quarter. After you find your barrack, go to the procurement office and get a uniform of your size, meet you tomorrow," he said.

"Thanks for the information."

With the hospital gown being the clothing that I was currently wearing, it might be a good idea to go to the procurement office first before going to the barrack to greet the others. I walked into the large vault hallway while looking at some posters that I didn't notice at first.

The first poster was a poster of a vault boy whose foot got stomped by someone in T-60 power armor. The top of it had a warning that said, "Watch your step! You're responsible for cruising a leg." Yeah, the T-60 power armor would weigh more than 200 kilograms. It could easily crush anyone's foot.

The entire hallway led me to the same atrium, I then headed to the military section of the whole vault. The whole hallways were marked with multiple propaganda posters like, "America Needs You!", "Better Die Than Red!", or "Opsec Is Priority! Shut Up!". Overall, the aim of those posters was to make sure that the entire vault followed the military protocol that Enclave prioritized.

Eventually, I arrived at the procurement office. Well, the procurement office looked more like an armory with multiple gun lockers, a storage area, and metal crates, alongside power armor stations and empty power armors ranging from the usual APA MK 1 to T-60 power armor. Of course, the armory was filled with military personnel. There were five of them there, in fact, all of them were wearing military uniforms colored in tan desert patterns. Other than the five were two people in Advanced Power Armor Mk 1 holding Gatling lasers.

"Ah, come here," One of the armorers approached me. "I heard about you, new recruit. Private Rockwell, right? We have your size ready, alongside other things like a rucksack, spare uniforms, sleeping fatigue, etcetera." She approached me with a rucksack filled with the mentioned things, alongside one clean uniform.

"Ok, now, please, wear it, alright?"
