"Do you even know Dai Mubai well?" Mu Chen continued.
"An engagement arranged by our families, dictated by the matchmaker. It's hard to go against my parents' wishes," Zhu Zhuqing said with a slight shake of her head.
"Are you really willing to marry someone you might not even like just because of your parents' wishes? To me, love is precious. Marrying someone I don't love would be worse than death," Mu Chen said earnestly.
"Are you suggesting I break off the engagement with Dai Mubai?" Zhu Zhuqing asked, surprised.
"Yes," Mu Chen nodded and added, "If neither of you likes each other, then forcing you both together is simply cruel."
"I can't!" Zhu Zhuqing resisted.
"Why not?" Mu Chen asked.
"Do you know his status?" Zhu Zhuqing countered.
"I do," Mu Chen replied, nodding.
"Then you should understand that if I break off the engagement, it will have a huge impact on my family. My parents would not approve," Zhu Zhuqing said, her eyes filled with anguish.
